  1. Thanks a lot Grrrl. That's what all eight of my (older of course) siblings keep telling me. 20/20 so far. And all three of my (balding) brothers swear I have to be the mailman's kid. I have to change my profile picture to prove this however. I'm the one on the left. Of what relevance is hair when you shave you head? (see IPSCDRL's avatar)
  2. Depending on the caliber change, you might need a new magazine; ejector; extractor (or some combination thereof).
  3. I can attest to that. I broke the flat palstic part which connects the locking block to the belt. I emailed Angus a scan so he could see what part I broke, and a spare was shipped (free) the same day.
  4. I remember calling Lee to get one of those nylon parts replaced. They were very friendly, and asked for my credit card number. I remember calling Dillon for 550B parts which broke, and all they wanted was my address.
  5. Ok, I'll correct you Rob .. the Guatamalans issued country-wide CHL permits for the Columbus Cup last year, and the Nicaraguans are supposedly doing the same this year (including VIP customs/immigration lines at the airport). Didn't SA issue them for the World Shoot? Ordinary citizens visiting may have trouble getting licenses, but in lots of the "3rd-world" countries, their equivalent BATF head is frequently an IPSC shooter and will treat competitors right. In this case, I am glad I was at least partially wrong.
  6. But, in that case there was an easy target for the suit so she got her car: http://www.heferito.com/toyyoda.asp http://www.findarticles.com/cf_dls/m3190/2...1/article.jhtml
  7. I recently acquired a JP CTR-02 configured for IPSC (18" lightweight bbt, Coolie Comp, rail for secondary iron sight (pending), and JP ACOG). I am new to rifle shooting, hading had a stock AR for years but hardly ever shooting it. I've noticed the integral ACOG mount on the CTR02 provides three positions for the scope (whcih I'll call forward, middle and aft). The ACOG does not have a lot of eye reliev, but I can position myself to see the scope in any of the three postions. My question is this: What is the consensus as to the "best" position of an ACOG on the integrated JP upper mount?
  8. Everything is relative - stopping for gas in certain areas of pretty much every major city in the US can be just as dangerous. Apart from that we are all armed... Correct me if I am wrong, but most "developing nations" (use of the politically correct is appropriate, since they will probably use politically correct targets) do not let visitors go armed, and throw you in a stiinking hellhole for a few years to await trial if you are caught carrying outside very restrictive licensing conditions. (ie, it's sort of like Massachusetts or New Jersey, although MA does sell visitors carry permits if you plan 6+ months ahead of time)
  9. The last I heard, KLM accepted only "sporting firearms" of certain calibers, and this policy included "absolutely no handguns". Better check before buying tickets, particularly with non-US carriers.
  10. Brian - I'll gladly trust you with my 50% when they make a 1050 model.
  11. You're attempting to apply rationality to an irrational process performed by irrational people. The ban is completly rational if you assume that the sponsors understand exactly how irrelevant the ban is, but recognize the value of a strategy of taking any gun control territory they can. Once they get the gov't in the habit of banning the most powerful guns available, they just keep moving down the line until airsoft is all that is left. OZ is a bit ahead of us - they've reached a 9mm bore limit - except for authorized sports (ie, cowboy shooting). IPSC was not granted authorization as an approved reason to own > 9mm handguns in Australia, despite our newer and friendlier target.
  12. Renting also means you won't get dinged for a service call if the cable company comes out and decides it's a modem problem.
  13. First off, get a router such as the Linksys BEFSR41 even if you only have one system. Although it's not a firewall solution, it's a good start since it will block all incoming ports except the ones you specifically open.
  14. If you ever have the misfortune of filing a loss claim on firearms, remember that the scope is a separate item which is not a firearm nor part of a firearm. I know of one case where the insured used this logic to have his red dots covered outside the fixed $$ limit in firearms in his policy.
  15. Take a look at the Case Pro die - it resizes from the base up. My case proed brass will not drop into a chamber check doohickie, but a fully loaded round which was caseproed before being dilloned will always fit in the chamber checker. If I skip the Case Pro, the "always" in the previous sentence reverts to "usually.". I've use the Lee U die for super, but noticed it tended to scrape brass towards the base of the case and sometimes leave a small ridge - a by product of unidirectional sizing, I assume.
  16. I have the JP ACOG on my new (not yet fired) CTR-02, and noticed the holes in the upper allow the ACOG to be mounted in one of three positions. I can position myself to see the crosshairs with the scope in each of the three positions, but am not sure how to tell which one is "best" (the ACOG does not appear to have a lot of eye relief, but it sure is crisp except for the right part of the crosshairs, which ACOG explains in the instructions - something to do with the focal plane presented to the shooter and not a scoppe). Any thoughts on the best position?
  17. Where is that a savings? The ammo truck delivers Winchester and Federal primers to my club for $70/5K, which includes the 5% for the person who arranges the cooperative group order. and I often see deals in that price range on the vendor tables at matches.
  18. So if you are fortunate enough to own a house in a market which appreciates rapidly and you're moving to another part of the country, will you be offering your house for sale at a reasonable markup based on your cost, or will you be raising the price becuase it is desired by people willing to pay for it.
  19. This doesn't make very much sense to me. Glock offers their model 17 with a 3.5lbs connector for LE/military purposes too (in Europe). Well, I thought Glock might do this, since they have proven that they can produce connectors for $4 a piece I just don't like the fact that a product is more expensive because it is desired by people who will pay for it, and not because it is more valuable/costly to produce objectively. Correction - I should have said "Glock USA" rather than "Glock".
  20. Because Glock sells the 5 and 8lb connectors to their armorers and resellers for a very reasonable price (under the $4.00 you mention), but will not sell the 3lb connectors separately - replacement only when a gun sold with the "target only" connector is sent in for service. That leaves two sources for 3lb connectors for Glocks not originally supplies with them - "unofficial" importers of Glock products, or custom shops dealing in small volumes (and which make their living off parts, rather than selling them cheap to support their gun business). If any of this really bothers you, you can probably corner the US market on 3lb connectors if you can figure out a way to manufacture and sell them for $4.00 each.
  21. Her own pockets are where that money came from. Her profits come from folks that freely and without undue coercion buy the products and services she offers to the public. I was referring to the loss she saved herself from on the stock by selling her shares to people who did not have the same inside information about the upcoming devaluation that she posessed. It's sort of like used gun you know has a cracked slide or shot out bore to a customer who does not have that information, except that the later is simply unethical and not illegal.
  22. Maybe it's just because gunowners have "don't talk without an attorney" drilled into them at every shooting course, but I doubt 90% of the people on this list would A. talk to the feds without a lawyer when interviewed in an accusatory manner about a criminal allegation against them and B. lie about it to the feds.
  23. And where do you think the $41,000 she "saved" herself came from? Thin air or the anonymous pockets of the people she stole it from?
