  1. Perhaps my M2 just shoots really high, but I tried the 10/22 sight mounted as low as possible on the rib near the receiver, and it was still way too tall. Even shaving off the top of the sight didn't yield a proper POI. I may just have to try a different sight.
  2. I'm currently struggling to decide on a rear sight for my M2 as well. I tried the 10/22 rear sight option, but just couldn't get it low enough to use with my front sight (and I didn't want a really tall front sight). Also, it seemed fragile. Has anyone tried a simple mid-bead? Seems that windage is more of a concern than elevation, and a small mid-bead might be enough to line up, or confirm windage.
  3. Hey burningsquirrels: Your IM box won't accept any more messages. I've got a room if you want to split it. Shoot me a message if you want it. John
  4. Bruce Gray used to do the mod, but when I called a while back to inquire about it, they pretty much said that he no longer works on such menial tasks. It seems like it would be an easy mod, but it needs to be done right. It's not just a notch cut in the front of the mag body. It has to be cut (or material added) and then pulled outwards at a specific angle in relation to the mag release. If the notch is cut too deep, or the hole is too big, the mag release will bind, or extend all the way into the magazine itself, creating all kinds of problems. I know Larry Houck used them while he was shooting an Expert for HK years ago. He's on this board, so you might shoot him a PM for more info. A .40 Expert with 20+1 capacity would make a great Limited gun.
  5. Shooting the Pro, staying at the Days Inn in Glasgow. You're welcome to split it with me.
  6. Wow, I didn't see that coming. Not that I care, but any idea why Production was split off into it's own match? Was the combined back-to-back nationals getting too big / difficult to manage? ETA Oh ya, I didn't mind Tulsa. Like everyone else, I hated the mud, but the range was the nicest range I've ever been to. Once they get the drainage figured out (probably already have) it should be great. Tulsa itself was whatever.
  7. Is a RDS plus a magnifier considered one optic for Tac-Optics, or is it considered two and bumps you to Open for this match?
  8. I'm sure you already knew this, but I just want to throw it out there. You did turn it up, right? When you turn the sight on, it's at a middle setting, and in bright sunlight, you might have to toggle up 5 or 6 positions before you can even see it. If you turned it on initially in the shade (or inside)where you can see the reticle just fine, and then went outside without toggling up, the dot would appear to have disappeared. Again, I don't want to insult your inteligence, but I've had cops I teach not realize it worked like that.
  9. That was actually my first thought, but it is the 'E' model with the riser, and I'm using an HK MR556. With the higher rail height of the HK (piston gun) the extra 7mm of riser in the 'E' model makes it too high to get a good cheek weld. It's funny that this model came out though--for years now we have been teaching all of our students in our LE patrol rifle classes to use the bottom 'tick mark' where it meets the 65 MOA ring for room-distance work. Guess I should have patented that idea years ago Anyway, my new EOTech should be here in a day or. I'm glad more people jumped on this thread, because I was starting to think I was an idiot.
  10. I know the concensus amongst the top Limited Division shooters is that iron sights are superior to an RDS, but that aside, I have a question. Has anyone tried the EOTech 2-2 reticle for 3-gun. It's a standard reticle(65 moa ring with 1 moa dot in the middle) , but it has a second 1 moa dot below the standard one. The literature claims that the top dot (the normal one in an EOTech reticle) is used for 0 to 200 yards, and the bottom dot can be used past 200. Seems like it might work well if one has chosen to stick with an RDS for Limited. Have any of you tried this model? Thanks
  11. I'm trying out some minor .40 loads, and all I have are 180 grn bullets. For those who load minor .40, what bullet weight do you prefer? Do the lighter bullets, say 135 to 165, take away some of the 'sluggishness' of 180 minor loads? Thanks
  12. Was this a 'trophy only match,' or was there a prize table, or money to finishers? Nice plaques!
  13. Is that really the way it works? That seems silly. What about a traditional DA/SA gun that has a decocker, and also a thumb safety? Can you just de-cock it, or do you need to de-cock and apply the safety?
  14. Hello sir. I'm sure you're very busy, and I hate to pester you about this, but it's getting close to game day. Do we have a definitive answer on this--at least for the Nationals? Thanks for your time.
  15. So if you do NOT have a cart, can you un-case a long gun (with an OBI) at your car and simply carry it to the stage, or would you need to bring the case to a safe area, un-bag (with an OBI) and then bring it to the stage? Thanks very much for the information.
  16. I understand that the multi-gun Nationals are using time-plus scoring this year. Reading the MG rules, that means you only need 1 A, or two hits anywhere on a paper target to neutralize a target. Is that for both handgun and rifle? And if that's the case, why do the stage descriptions require (for example) "16 rounds rifle" on a stage where there are 8 paper targets? Wouldn't it only be 8 rounds minimum--1 per target? I just want to make sure I'm not missing something, as I'm new to 3-gun. Thanks
  17. For those of you who are flying into Vegas, what's your range-cart plans? I won't be able to bring my big 3-gun cart due to luggage restrictions, and I was wondering how ya'all plan on schlepping all your stuff from stage to stage. Just work out of the back of your car and drive from stage to stage?

    20 round P30 mag

I saw that post. Had I not already had my mags sent off, I might have tried it. Is it 140mm?
  19. Well, the 2012 season has kicked off. Here is some video from the Alabama State Championship, held over the weekend. 3 members of the team shot the match––Bill and myself shooting P30Ls, and Jason shooting a minor-.40 Expert, all in Production Division. It was a really fun match, and well put together for a state match.

    20 round P30 mag

I figured some of you guys might be interested in this. I plan on doing some 3-gun this year, and I knew I'd be at a disadvantage with 15 round mags. So, I sent off a couple of mags to Higher Capacity to get a 140mm mag built up, and this is what I got back. It's not the 23 round that some other guys are getting out of their G34s or STI 9mms, but it's certainly better than stock. Using a Beretta 92 basepad locking plate, and cutting down the stock follower a little bit, I get 20 rounds--so 20+1. It's pretty tight at 20, so I don't think I'd reload to it in the middle of a stage unless I downloaded it to 19. I'm going to try out a few different springs, but it appears that a factory spring might just work OK. It won't have the service life that you would get out an un-modified mag, but the big-stick mag will only get used on stages where it would be needed, and I can always get more springs.
  21. Anyone get the videos yet? How do you like them? I have the book and logbook on order, and I'm trying to decide if I should get the videos as well. ETA. Aww screw it. Ordered.
