  1. I think the criticism of the banquet is totally valid; at the table I was sitting at I had water coming in under my feet during the banquet. The problem thought isn't necessarily IDPA's though as it is poor selection of the match hotel. I completely disagree with the criticisms of the range inasumch as Frank's facility works very well as long as it's not pouring rain.
  2. Just from watching my own footage, there has been some real interesting inconsistencies with the range commands as mentioned above. I don't think that's a really big issue, but at a World or National Championship it's definitely something that should be addressed in SO meetings before the match. In all seriousness though, that's part of a larger issue of SO consistency. On one stage, our squad asked "what defines cover on this stage" so that we would know where it was okay to reload. We asked the exact same question on another stage and were told "I can't tell you that, that's coaching." So obviously there's an issue there. That being said, I really don't want this to turn into an World Shoot bashing thread, because I do think it was an excellent match. Particularly in terms of stage design, although I certainly could have used a few less swingers.
  3. I agree with the T-shirts; while having them on one or two stages provides a neat change of pace, having them all over the place seemed kind of overkill.
  4. I know a bunch of the guys here shot the World Shoot, so there's got to be a big ol' collection of thoughts on it. For example, the stages for the most part were pretty awesome. Especially the stage that consisted of nothing but moving/reactive targets. The one thing I really wanted to talk about was the squad-mom SO position; I honestly felt like this was one of the best things ever at a major match. Having one person outside of the squad to sort the shooter order, deal with stickers, etc takes some of the work off the shooters and allows them to focus on the match, and I also thing takes some of the pressure off the stage SOs because they don't have to deal with that either. So really just post your thoughts on the match, what you liked/didn't like (the heat/rain) and what we could do to make it better next time they call it a "World Championship".
  5. Search fields are so difficult, I'm not in this line of work because I'm smart. J/k, please have someone lock this thread down.
  6. I shoot L10 and score minor, since my 9mm gun I built for IDPA ESP isn't Production legal. Out here we usually get 8-10 L10 shooters at the club matches.
  7. I'm heading to Piru in 2 weeks for Steel Challenge, and I had a legality question. I don't want to run afoul of the local laws down there, but I also don't really feel like buying seven 10-round magazines just to shoot the match. What's the usual solution for guys that live in states that don't have AWB, do you just bring your hi-caps in and hope you don't get pulled over? Also, to the mods: if people start talking about politics in here, please lock this thread down. I'd like to keep this confined to "what do you do about this situation" discussion.
  8. L10 Minor PF: 72.1415% based on 94 points in 18.74 seconds. No mikes and 0 no-shoots.
  9. I actually have one of those on the way, there will be a picture of it in the IDPA box in an upcoming issue of Combat Handguns.
  10. Yeah - in theory, but no matter the speed, if you shot an entire match clean, how would you know if you couldn't have gone even faster? A few points down shows you weren't going too slowly, while still keeping you very close to where you should've been. I feel I'm there when I add 5 - 7% to my raw time. Over 10% is too many, and you're shooting beyond your control, IMO. Tom I would be willing to bet that if you shot an entire match clean you were going too slow. There are shots where there are partial targets due to no-shoots or hard cover where it's much faster to shoot for "center of brown" and get a couple of down -1 hits instead of taking the time to nail a partially obscured -0 or go for a head shot.
  11. But being able to holster safely is. I saw a shooter DQ'd because they had a floppy nylon holster, and after they loaded up to shoot the stage, they went to re-holster and had to hold the holster open with their support hand. They kept doing this after repeated warnings to stop flagging themself, so the SO eventually had to issue a DQ.
  12. You can be a 5 gun master and still lose. Tell me about it! My first two major matches after making 5-Gun Master didn't exactly cover myself in glory. 10th place at the Carolina Cup, 3rd Place at the VA State match...I'm not going to lie that I was disappointed with my shooting at both those matches.
  13. Just got in today, I shot the Missouri ProAm Steel Plates match today (great guys) and now I'm sitting comfortably in the lovely holiday inn. I'll be hitting up the practice range tomorrow as well, so if you see a midget wearing a green Crimson Trace shirt on Sunday, it's probably me.
  14. Good luck Cliff, glad to see a revolver shooter make it on the show!
  15. Damian, you've got me listed as shooting Production and Metallic, I'm only shooting Production. You can give that slot to someone else who'd like to shoot two guns. -Caleb
  16. Thanks, I had a double issue on Thurs - I had to take a trip to the doc for a sports related injury, and my recording gear sort of took a dump during the interview. I'm going to transcribe the good bits of the interview and post them on Gun Nuts on Monday.
  17. There are only two ways to make Master in IDPA according to the rulebook. Either shoot the classifier in the required amount of time under the supervision of an IDPA certified SO, or receive a match bump based on performance. You can't just roll up to a state championships match and say "I'm a Master" and get entered as such.
  18. The rules state the SERPA is legal, and also that it's perfectly legal to permanently modify the retention devices on a holster. My SERPA has had the lock removed, and it still has enough retention to keep the gun in the holster while I move/walk/run. Ipso facto, it's legal for IDPA.
  19. I can't believe I forgot to post this earlier - Gun Nuts has been doing the exclusive "day after" interviews with the Season 2 contestants as they've gotten eliminated. We're doing our interview with Maggie tonight at 7pm Pacific time, and the link to listen live is at www.blogtalkradio.com/gunnuts - so check it out! Also, we've done interviews with the contestants eliminated in the first three episodes as well, here are the links to download from the archives: Jermaine and John Athena Travis It's been a lot of fun for me personally to interview the contestants; having first hand knowledge of what they went through makes for a lively interview, as well as getting a personal peek behind the curtain of season 2.
  20. Yes we do and the answer to that is "maybe". With the new 105 PF for Stock Service Revolver, Match Directors are going to have to use a factory load in .38 from a 4 inch gun to calibrate all the poppers.
  21. I assume the GM is on the left and the A-class is on the right?
  22. Actually, they could toss the IDPA divisions entirely at Steel Challenge - the SSP guys would go to Production, the ESP guys would go to Limited, and the CDP guys would go to Single Stack. They would have to limit Single Stack to .45 ACP though, because otherwise you'd have guys running .38 Super and 9mm and just beating the .45 guys to death.
  23. In a humorous side note, IDPA cashed my $50.00 check back in December and I still don't have my silly piece of paper.
