  1. You mean something like this: It's a habit I picked up long time ago. But, for me, it also helps me keep my left hand far enough forward to have an aggressive hold on the gun.
  2. Hey guys, I've searched and read threads for going on 3 days now in regards to KKM and LW barrels and I really haven't found what I'm looking for. I'm currently shooting Production w' my G-17 and using a LW barrel, 11lb recoil spring, Tungsten guide rod and Vanek trigger. I'm shooting Black Bullets (125 gr) w' WSF powder and loading them around 1.135" and I'm getting great results. I just picked up a NIB G-34 and I'm ready to build it for Production. My question is this: 1) For those of you that are shooting a G-34, which barrel has shown you the best results, Lone Wolf or KKM? Or, if you are still shooting your factory barrel w' the 125 gr Moly's and saw a better group, I would like to know that as well (mainly the particulars). 2) If you are one of those people that sent their gun off to SJC for the Production Package, what barrel did they use?
  3. Here is Bubba our Choc Lab. He just made 13 in Jan (he shares his birthday with Elvis).. He likes to play: But his main job is to guard and hold down his love seat!
  4. Hmmm. That set up looks familiar. I saw one on Wed a friend of mine has on his HK. He too the XS Big Dot on the front and left his factory HK night sights on the rear. When you look at the sight picture, it lines up perfect. I'm waiting to hear how it shoots. On that note, I've got an extra set of Trijicon night sights and tempted to put that rear on my G-19 (it's currently runing XS). So I would have XS Big Dot front and Trij rear. I'll let you kow how that works.
  5. Not to insult your intelligence; but, are you aiming correctly with them? I know that I had to adjust a little. I went by what was posted on his sight.
  6. That the Springfield XD's are treated like the black sheep of the USPSA? Now, for the records, I do own XD's and Glocks, I currently shoot a G-17 set up for Production. My carry weapon is a G-19. Home defense weapon? Springfield XD-9... Why? After several trial and error platforms, my wife (who is a relatively new shooter in general) just likes the ergonomics of the XD platform and I must admit that I do also. With that being said, I saw an XD-9 Tactical at a gun show yesterday and it started growing on me. I've been looking for a G-34 and they had one also. If it would have been ANY day before yesterday, I would have bought the G-34 without question; but, now I've got the squirrels in my brain running wild... Anyone who has used a G-34 and an XD-9 Tactical for Production, can you give me a good comparison? Thanks, Nick
  7. And just remember boys and girls, if you have an XD and XDm in the same caliber, the mags will NOT interchange...
  8. Autoindexing + Mistake = Squib. Manual Indexing + Mistake = Double charge. I can agree with the above statement. FWIW, I bought my 1st Dillon back in 1996 when I started shooting NRA Action Pistol and it was the Dillon 550. Great press, the dies are common. I used it for around 3 yrs and then had a few life changing issues and it went into storage and then ultimately died when Katrina came along... Fast forward to 2009. I started back shooting (mainly USPSA) and I shoot only 2 different caliber pistols (9mm and 45). I found a Dillon SDB for sale here for a decent price that included a strong mount and dies in 9mm and 45, so I bought it. The SDB is a good press. The reason I will NOT say great is that it is a little smaller (I have man paws) and I did like the work area on the 550. Currently, I only load 9mm for USPSA Production and I can crank out several hundred rounds without any problems. If I were to go buy a new re-loader today, I would SERIOUSLY consider the 650. Why? Because I have gotten spoiled to the auto indexing feature on the SDB, that alone is worth it's weight in gold... BTW, my Dillon SDB is going on 10 yrs old and I just re-built it for the 2nd time. The first owner re-built it in 2004.
  9. I love these things!!! For practice, I'm shooting these with 4.2 gr of Win WSF and the smoke is NOT that bad... Oh yeah, I'm shooting these out of my Glock G-17 with a LW bbl and they group good too!
  10. Now if you REALLY want to look cool, get one of the custom Front sight tools from Exile. Here is the link to their site. Exile Tool Company
  11. I don't load Berry's; but I do load that type of bullet. The ones I load are either Black Bullets, 125 gr FP and I load Friendswood Lead Bullets in 125 gr: If what you are loading sounds like any of these 3, you can go to Winchester's Data loading site on-line and put in your powder, blah, blah, blah and it will give you a starting point for those. Personally, I'm loading both of those (Black Bullets and Friendswood) with 4.2 gr of Win WSF (site data starts at 4.0 gr and max is 4.7 gr) and my O.A.L is 1.135. These are shooting in my Glock 17 for Production. *** Big note here, if you are shooting these out of S&W M&P pistol, that O.A.L. is too long!!! You need to back it down to around 1.0 O.A.L. Hope this helps.
  12. I know this is a different bullet weight; but... I'm shooting Black Bullets in my G-17 in 125 gr, loading them with WSF. My current load is 4.2 gr WSF and OAL is 1.135 and it works well.
  13. Not TOO much to tell about. I'm currently at work (offshore); but, I DID get started. I picked up a new 3rd Gen G-17 Vanek Trigger LW bbl Tungsten Guide Rod and LW Guide Rod springs in 11, 13, 15 lb Warren sights. I bought both guide rods and springs to find out what work best. So far, the Tungsten and 11lb is working great with factory and my reloads. I'm just trying to fine tune my reloads to the LW bbl. I'm reloading Bayou Bullets (125 gr) with Win WSF to make sure I get Power Factor. The only other issue with the reloads is that the Winchester site gives me a starting point with WSF for 124 gr bullets but not 125 gr. The starting point is 4.0 gr and max is 4.7, so I'm starting there. I'm almost now leaning towards shooting Production only for Action Pistol. I just need some time in front of the mover to see how this is gonna work.
  14. I keep 2 guns set up the same. I've just acquired them over time. My 1st is a 2nd Gen G-17 (which is now my back-up). My main production gun is a 3rd Gen G-17.. Plus I've got spare parts that I've acquired over time I keep in my tackle box.
  15. If your G34 is a newer model, get this one from Brownells: http://www.brownells.com/.aspx/pid=23432/P...d_Slide_Release If you're not sure which model you have, look at your Glock frame just above the trigger guard. If there are two pins there then you have a 3-pin model (the third pin is located near the backstrap) and holds the trigger housing. Hope this helps. Here is a pic to go buy. The G-17 on the top is a 2nd Gen (2 pin). The G-19 on the bottom is a 3rd Gen (3-Pin).
  16. Question for Kevin or MJ... 10 yrs ago when I was shooting AP with MJ, Chief, Ruthy, Phillip and crew I was classified as expert for AP. I was shooting the local matches in Liberty and McComb and the last big match I shot was the one (regional I think) where we shot near Milton,Fl. The question is this, I know that I will have to re-classify (which I don't mind) but being a former classified shooter, does this or will this have any bearing on shooting as a 1st time shooter in Production?
  17. Ok guys, I need some help in clarification here. I was reading the rules for guns in Production class just now and apparently, either I am reading something wrong on my peanut brain isn't comprehending. The question is trigger weight. Is it 3.5 # or 2 # min for production. Here is why I ask: From the NRA Action Pistol Rule Book as of this morning: ? 3.2.1 Production Firearm - The intent of this rule is to encourage the use of production firearms as manufactured and promote NRA Action Pistol Shooting at the “Grass Roots” level. Accordingly, in order to keep this class from becoming an “Equipment Match” , Single Action only pistol are prohibited. A Production Firearm is a semi-automatic handgun or revolver which is or has been a catalog item readily available to the general public equipped with factory notch & post sights. All standard safety features of firearms must operate properly. The firearm shall have no visible internal of external modifications except as follows: (a) Grips may be replaced or modified to fit the competitor’s hand or to facilitate loading. Checkering, stippling, grip tape and grip sleeves are permitted. ( Barrel length may not exceed 5.35 inches for semi-automatic pistols and may not exceed 6 inches for revolvers. © Wide “target” style hammers and triggers, if included on the firearm as originally manufactured, are permitted. (d) Only open sights may be used. The front sight must be a non-adjustable post sight. The rear sight may be adjustable if the firearm was originally manufactured with an adjustable sight. Sights may be replaced but they must use the original dovetail cuts and must retain the original configuration of the firearm. Fiber optic sights are permitted. (e) Barrels may be replaced with original factory barrels with the same configuration of the original barrel. (f) All production firearms must fire the first shot of every stage double action. (g) Trigger weight may not be less than 3.5 lbs. In any mode. then further down it states this: 3.3 All Types of Pistols Will Compete Together - The same conditions of time, distance, or scoring shall apply to all firearm types equally. When Centerfire and Rimfire Firearms are allowed in the same tournament separate aggregate awards must be provided. A sponsor may recognize Rule 3.2 metallic Firearms and 3.2.1 Production Firearms by providing a separate award(s), or may restrict a tournament to only these firearms. Any such conditions must be stated in the Official Program. 3.4 Weight Restrictions - There shall be no restriction on overall weight of pistols. The trigger pull shall not be less than 2 pounds. What am I missing here? Here is the entire rule section on .pdf NRA Action Pistol Production
  18. Dood, Is that all you shot? I shot close to 1,000 rds last month. I shot that IDPA in Amite, La Gator practice on Mon Nite, and that EAPS match. But I DID have 2 - 3 range sessions during the day too! :surprise: I'm glad my job lets me do that! I'm now looking for an Airsoft G-17 so I do some shooting in my back yard. I will agree that your matches are getting better, you are doing a helluva job. I just need to shoot some more qualifiers now, so I can see where I'm at in the pack.
  19. Yup, I've talked to SJC, and that gun she shot was a 1 off. They told em that they didn't expect a demand for that, so what it looks like I am gonna do is, take one of my 3rd gen G-17's and buy that convertible compensator mount they have and see about adding some wings to it and let'er rip... That way, I can still shoot USPSA Production and Action Pistol with just ONE gun....
  20. Here is a bump for a good thread... Here is my bike: 2006 BMW R120 GS Another god pic when we were on our honeymoon back in 2008!
  21. Hey guys, I got a question here and need some help. I'm looking to see if anyone has ever set up a GLOCK 17 to shoot NRA Action Pistol. What I'm looking for is information on the shroud and mover base. I know that this past year, SJC set up one for Jesse Abbate to shoot and I've contacted them already. The reason why I'm mentioning the GLOCK 17, is that is what I'm currently shooting for production and don't want to spend money on getting a 1911 frame gun just to shoot Action Pistol, when I've already got a few extra GLOCK 17's... What I'm looking for is something set up like this but in a GLOCK: Thanks for your help...
  22. Here ya go. G-34 on top 2nd Gen G-17 G-19 on bottom
  23. Well, The jury is in.... G34 it is. After doing some reading on rules and blah blah blah, the Glock won over. I got it home and WOW... I'm really impressed. Went to the range (indoor) and shot right at 200 rds of 115 gr FMJ ( WWB ) at ranges from 10' to 50'. I also shot a few rounds of plates. Behold 50 rds... Time to order some sights and shoot it some more.
  24. Nice little group, but don't get a trigger job just yet, the gun is just now breaking in. Here was the last range visit with 100 rds of WWB at the same distance as you. My gun has just over 5,000 rds thru it.
