  1. Good luck...Most 1911 jockies hate the grip angle and trigger of the Glocks. Maybe you'll be different
  2. Found an article that might help you. Here is the link: http://support.us.ricoh-imaging.com/node/3 Good shooting my friend. Just me but I'd go with a newer auto focus lens....They usually provide a manual over ride.
  3. What Camera are you looking to mount your new macro on?
  4. All this reminds me of what was, and is said about sailors.....A bitchin sailor is a happy sailor.
  5. I have a Glock 34 Gen 3 and it has displayed none of the issues (left drift) beyond 25 yards that are being described (neither do my glock 26 nor my Glock 19...all gen 3's). I shot CCI Blazer (aluminum case) at Area 4 a few yrs back and the Standard exercise was 25 yd weak hand, 35 yd strong hand 50 yard free style (don't know if that is still a standard exercise or not). Anyway, all my hits were pretty much on centerline and vertically strung (me, not the Glock). Before you spend too many more of your hard earned dollars, since it is a New gen 4 firearm, I'd contact Glock and get their take on it. It's not likely a barrel issue (including the barrel crown).
  6. Sure...and thanks for the correction..Webster wasn't handy as I was typing. I haven't really checked over the editing functions...Is there a spell check in here?
  7. Jealousy an irrational emotion with little to no basis in fact. If you enjoy shooting and/with movement, USPSA and IDPA are damned fine games. Taking either too seriously (unless you are a Dave Sevigney, Rob Lathem, Jerry Miculek or some other shooter with more than just a passing interest in having some fun) is done at the individual shooters peril. I'm certainly not foolish enough to think all shooters in USPSA would embrace the idiocincratic nature of IDPA as would IDPA shooters embrace the idiocincratic nature of USPSA. What amazes me is that, after all these years, the disenchanted from both camps (IDPA/USPSA) have not created some other game that addresses the complaints present in both camps, with the potential to rival the memberships of these two games.
  8. Just a reminder for all: This forum requires excessive moderation due to real and imagined slights against IDPA. As a result the Moderating Team has discussed deleting the IDPA Forum altogether. We've decided to keep it for now, by a narrow margin with some stipulations: Please post respectfully or don't post at all. No antagonistic tones will be tolerated. The attitude that questioning a rule is "bashing" or anti-IDPA must stop. As long as the question is posted in a constructive manner there is no reason not to discuss a rule. That said, topics that have been covered ad nauseum may be closed. Please use the search feature. Threads or posts not following this spirit will be locked or deleted, and offenders will be banned from posting. Please, for the life of the IDPA Forum and the constructive input gained from it, participate appropriately. Members who can't post politely or who come here merely to bash IDPA or IDPA's rules will receive a 7 day suspension from The Forums upon their first offense. A second offense will incur a 30 day suspension from The Forums. Thank you, The Moderating Team
  9. Either the 19 or the 26 would be a good choice for CCW as long as you (as most Glock shooters are) are comfortable carrying with one in the chamber with no other safety except the gray matter between your ears. I have shot the 34 in both USPSA and IDPA. Due to very crappy knees now, I've opted to shoot what I carry so I'm using the 19 and, while I take a little friendly ribbing about shooting a "short" gun, I'm only competeing against me to get better with what I carry (and my scores are respectable for an "old man" as they like calling me).. My 19 and I have been together for over 13 years and have a fine relationship. Also, I've sent so much work in the direction of my local Glock armorer, so I get most the guns stuff at no charge or charged for parts only...no labor.
  10. I like it. I'll print it out for my use. Thx.
  11. Since you were non-specific, I'll say this. The Glock 34 is not a good "3" gun platform for Home Defense, Carry and Competition. The 34 is a fine choice for competition, you just have to decide USPSA or IDPA, the category (SSP, Production, yadd yadda) so you'll know what mods are legal. It's dangerous from a legal perspective to use a modified comp gun for HD and carry as the triggers can be much lighter and (in these letigious times) any mod that makes the firearm look assaultish could weigh against you if you do have to defend yourself in court at some later date even if the person shot was fully deserving of the "gift" (projectile) received. The Glock 19 and the Glock 26 are fine carry and home defense options. Of course, a shotgun should be accessable in the HD relm.
  12. Sarge nailed it so I'll go another direction. Is your intent to use a carry firearm to compete or a firearm dedicated to the "games"? If it's game only, there are several very fime 9mm's that need little more than a holster and mag pouches. If it's a carry firearm then you probably already have a holster and just need 4 -5 mag pouches (but that's shooter pref). That lill diatribe was only meant as my ADVISE (did I get it right Sarge? haha) as for my setup, I'm currently competeing with a stock Glock 19. It's my carry firearm, has been for over 13 yrs, and has never failed to bark unless I did something wrong. Stock for Glock has become an moving target btw. I changed the Glock sites out with Trijicon Night sights (fixed) and installed a Glock 34 Mag release as it's length gives my slightly short fingers better leverage to drop the mag for a mag change (in the game). It's a Glock part offered on approved firearms (for the game) so technically it means it's still stock.
  13. The extra pin came about when Glock introduced the Glock loaded in 40S&W. You can make a Glock 34 an Open, major PF gun but I do think there are better choices at those pressure levels. The Gen 3 or 4 Glock in 40 S&W (aka Glock 35) is a far better choice. It's built for major pressure levels. Plus, if you are serious about Open, the additional bullet diameter of the 40 cal can, and does come in to play in the case of "Perf hits".
  14. Due to the restrictions imposed at public ranges (No movement, no working from holsters...At least at my location) and the expense involved in joining the very few private ranges that do allow movement and holster work,,,USPSA and IDPA are natural places for shooters (like me) to be able to engage is something that loosely simulates "actual" shooting situations. It then comes down to preferences. Having shot (and enjoyed) both USPSA and IDPA my leanings are more toward IDPA (in spite of some of the rules that I find not particularly real world). Both are great for meeting like minded people (as far as firearms interest and general political phylosophy), making friends and having a good laugh. Both are also great venues for a shooter to learn more about themselves, their weapon, firearm failure correction, trigger control.......You get the idea. I have seen shooters (in both sports) get the "nod" for questionable procedures, hits, misses etc. Since I only compete againt me, I turn a blind eye to the local inconsistencies. Can't speak to national events as I don't compete at that level.
  15. Edit function is hanging up so here is a repost, with edit corrections: I've hated and sworn off NBS since their completely biased coverage of the year 2000 Republican and Democrat conventions. NBC gave exactly 0 (zero) minutes to the RNC and several hours to the DNC. FYI this info was reported by CSPAN who covered BOTH conventions gavel to gavel, start to finish, with NO expert analysis. Wow let people hear for themselves? What a concept. To cover their asses with the FEC NBC put coverage of the RNC on their cable affiliate CNBC. So people without cable (and yes there are those without it) saw only the DNC and not the RNC on NBC.....Enough initials?

  17. I've shot with a number of cops from different agencies(Local PD, Dep. Sheriffs, DPS etc) and different squads (swat, HRT, etc). Some are excellent both shooting static, on the move and with moving tgts. Others are as described above (paper pushers, weapon as dead weight etc). The ones who are really good shooters most all prefer a tactical long weapon over a handgun but know, at any given time, it could come down to that handgun.
  18. Replacing the sights is the spot on thing to do. Since you're planning on carrying this weapon I recommend no other changes. Shoot about 500 to 1000 rounds through her and you should get a sense of any nastiness that the weapon might have. Document thes issues and have a Glock Certified Armorer check it out. Occasionally they might recommend sending the firearm back to Glock (in Georgia) to have it worked on. Nothing wrong with competing with what ya carry. Improves your familiarity with your system. Have fun
  19. I understand why Glock uses the adjustable rear sight and I understand the finger grooves that started at Gen 3 (I think) as a way to score importation points on the BATFE importation score card. I can't see NOT changing to a better sight system either fixed or adjustable. Outside of changing to Trijicon night sights (fixed) my gen 3 Glock 19 is stock. I have enough rounds through this 19 the triger bar face and striker face are "shot in" to each other, improving trigger feel. I carry this Glock, I shoot it in IDPA and wouldn't have any concerns about shooting it in a USPSA match. I shoot factory loaded ammo (although it is factory reloaded...can you say A. A.). I don't shoot one but, if I were a bettin man I'd guess the Springfield XDm comes about as close to an outta the box ready as any semi-auto can.
  20. I know. The nerve of some people actually using what they depend on. What's next? Flashlights? No way. That'd be cheating. hahahaha. Dude, if you use your carry gun to shoot IDPA, the G19 will no longer be able to run malfunction free! Once you start getting it dirty and dropping mags on the ground, your screwed. You would be much better carefully removing the empty magazine from the gun and either placing it in your pocket or gently setting it on the ground! And flashlights? Who would use a WML on their gun for defensive purposes? Obviously a noob. Could you imagine a G19 w/ WML in an appendix holster? OH MY THE HORROR! 3 strikes and your out! Ya know, you're right. I really should get rid of all my glocks and, when something happens to me, I just play the victim card. I'm sure with the current think in America I could wind up being compensated for my injuries by being placed in a 6000 sq ft home (for my wife and traumatized adult kids) with a 6 figure, government secured, income for the rest of my life, my wifes life, my kids life and their kids lives. WTH was I thinking.

  22. Revolver shooters are a tough breed. I had the absolute honor to scorekeep a USPSA stage that Jerry Mickulek was shooting. Every time I recall that stage all I can do is shake my head in awe.
  23. Maybe Pete...But the kick in teeth is 10 seconds after range safe, I remember what i was planning. hahaha
  24. So it's been about 6 months since I returned to shooting IDPA and I have a couple observations (of a personal nature of course). First, regarding shooting sports in general, my philosophy is that...If you're shooting, you're learning. You might not realize it, but you are. Second, unless someone is shooting back, all shooting sports are games. Third, since returning to IDPA after a multi year hiatus to USPSA, I am having a ball. Every time the timer sounds to start my shooting session my adrenaline still POPS, heart races and plans "A" and "B" darned near go flyin out the window. I manage to keep my reloads happening at the points I want them and after the 1st or 2nd tgt I remember to "SEE" the front sight. I'm competing to be sure but I'm competing against me, trying to do the right things as I BELIEVE them to be while not running afoul of he rules of the game. Oh yes, and instead of using my Glock 34 with the 3lb trigger and the high viz sights yadda yadda yadda, I'm shooting my Glock 19 carry weapon and shooting with respectable accuracy IMHO. I love this game...I'm glad I came back.
