  1. Awesome photos indeed, but the camera must be right in front of you. What's the trick? He can't be standing in front of a loaded gun ! Remote control maybe? Just curious how he does it.
  2. I run a local plate match one day a week for 6 months out of the year. I've noticed that it's always the same few people who pitch in to R/O, reset steel and stay behind at the end to clean up (and they aren't even club members). Where are the members? Out in the back room, shooting the breeze and waiting for me to call them 3 or 4 times to the line before they show up. Very annoying. I understand that a lot of these folks may not have seen each other for some time and the urge (need?) to catch up can be overwhelming, but some nights I get real close to just scoring the slackers with a loss when they don't cooperate. This Sunday I am running a shotgun on steel match at our club. I've already decided that the people on deck must reset the steel. We'll see how that works out.
  3. Kyle, I would think the chances are good that the dents are nothing more than a product of those soft bullets banging against each other either during packaging, transport or both. I doubt you have anything to worry about. But the true test is to load some up and test for yourself. Good Luck!
  4. Pretty much the same for me. The KKM chamber is somewhere around .0015" too tight. I sent it back to the builder and he's going to use a finish reamer on the chamber. Looking forward to getting it back and getting on with my load development.
  5. 2006 - age 56 Sure wish I'd found this game before the eyes went!
  6. I have them on my 625 and my open 64. They work well for me and I have large paws. I do the "hot potato" reload & the slipperiness of the Jerry grips help. The downside is the price. If they cost less I'd have more of them. Oh, one thing I don't care for - the ones on my 64 have a window for access to the main spring screw. Not comfortable on the fingers. I filled it in.
  7. Hey these things happen! MANY years ago I went to visit my wayward little brother in jail. When I got to the front door of the jail I reached into my pocket for a tissue and found a pocket full of ammo. In front of me was a very large sign warning visitors against bringing such items into the facility; less you desire to become a guest there yourself. I must have been a sight - flinging ammo from my pockets into the shrubbery while trying to be discreet about it. And yes, I'm blond. At least I was then, now my mane is a grizzled gray. I think coming to close to trouble like that probably accelerated the process.
  8. That sounds exactly like what's up with my KKM. The fella who built it for me is going to run a finish reamer through it. I think the front end of the chamber is somewhere around .0015" too tight.
  9. Don't know whether I breathe or not, but I do know I CHOKE!
  10. Agreed. Check and see if empty sized cases go in and chamber properly by hand. If so then make a few dummy rounds with varying bullet seating depth to find if the projectile is impinging on the throat. If the sized cases do not fit, check that the sizing die is adjusted properly, then if no go get the gun to a gunsmith that you trust and get the chamber set correctly. I took the barrel out and dropped some sized brass into the chamber. All fit, no problem. Heck even a belled case fits. Some ammo will chamber properly and some won't. I sight blacked the bullet of one of the rounds that would not chamber all the way and slid it into the chamber. Although the round did not fully chamber, there were no rifling marks on the sight blacking. It came out looking the same as it went in. I also took a bunch of different rounds and measured the crimp at the case mouth and also measured the bullet diameter immediately in front of the case mouth. It probably doesn't mean squat, but here's what I found: Legend - Sample round Crimp/Case mouth dia. Does sample fit into chamber? Bullet dia fwd of case mouth Belled Star Line (empty) case .3804" yes n/a 125 Zero JHP in Star Line case (1.142" COL) .3783" no .3553" 115 Speer GDHP (1.066 COL) .3766" yes .3476" 147 PD FMJ (1.142" COL) .3768" yes .3532" 115 WW Silvertip JHP (factory) (didn't record COL) .3766" yes .3541" 115 MG JHP (1.066" COL) .3778" no .3520"
  11. I use "BD Alcohol Swabs". $1.69 per 100 at most drug stores. One of them plus a micro fiber cloth does the trick. I've been using them for my eyeglasses for years.
  12. I have a major 9 built on a Glock 22. It has a KKM 9mm/40 barrel. Ammo that drops freely in and out of the chambers of my Glock 34 and 17 fail to seat all the way in the KKM. Is this unusual? Does anyone know if this is unusual? Are the KKM chambers overly tight? I am using new Star Line brass. 125 grain Zero JHP and OAL is 1.142"
  13. Mr. Smith - Care to share how much 3N37 you use with the 115s? Also the COL? I've heard that 3N37 advances bore erosion - have you seen this to be the case? Thanks in advance.
  14. I've had 2K 147 9mm FMJ on backorder from PD since early March. Suppose they'll show up some day.
  15. I ordered a case of 115 jhp from them last week. It got here in just two days. I just LOVE this company. Sure wish they could bring back the 158 CMJ .38s though.
  16. Am I the only dinosaur who's using an RCBS Rock Chucker? I've had mine since 1972 and have produced tens upon tens of thousands of rounds with it. My shooting buddies think I'm insane. They tell me I'd love life with a Dillon. I've often thought about it, but I think it would be like cheating. We've been together so long and all.. Am I beyond help?
  17. I've seen that too. Guy grabbed one of my charged G17 mags and used it in his G22. Neither one of us knew it at the time of course. After the first shot he seemed puzzled because he'd missed the target. Then he did it a 2nd time and that's when he figured it out. We both had a good laugh, but agreed it was never a trick to be repeated. Reminds me of the time I dropped a round of .256 Win Mag into my .357 by mistake (was talking to someone next to me and not watching what I was doing) and almost pulled the trigger. I was raising the gun when the R/O called a cease fire. Saw my mistake when I unloaded the gun. Since then the .357s stay home when the .256 goes to the range.
  18. Yeah, I was shooting Precision Molys and also Master Blasters. Used Tite Group with both. Thought that Black Bullets Int. coating would be identical to MB since they bought the MB equipment. Still wondering if the higher flame temp of the TG might have something to do with the fouling I experienced. Going to give the molys another try with Solo and see how that goes. Being able to shoot more for less $ is always a good thing!
  19. I stopped using moly bullets in my Glocks and HK USPs because they'd gunk up the bores and cleaning it out took forever. I was using Tite Group and after seeing your post I'm wondering if the problem was more the fault of the Tite Group than the moly bullets? Going to have to scare up some Solo 1000 and give it a try.
  20. +1 on the 121s I bought a case of 121 IFPs because they were out of 124 JHPs. They are basically a 115 JHP with the HP filled in with lead. They shoot great. Only exposed lead is in the point. Any idea how the 121s compare to the 115 jhps? Six grains doesn't sound like it'd make much difference. I ask because I just got a case of the 115 JHPs, but haven't had a chance to try them out yet. Just curious about what I can expect in the way of accuracy.
  21. Friend of mine has a major 9 (Glock) and he shoots 147 grain Zero JHPs and VV 3N38 loads in it for Major. I've shot a few of these rounds through it. Very flat shooting and they seemed mild. He likes the 147 Zeros because the rebated base makes loading easier. He prefers the 147 grain bullets because the powder volume is less than that which he uses for his 125 grain major loads. At last check he still had both eyes and all his fingers. I shoot 147gr Zeros in Production. I have lots of 147gr, and a few hundred 124s... Can you get some details from him? I think I'd rather shoot a 147 at 1150FPS, than a 124 at 1350! Then again, I guess it's all the same... He says his data is from the VV on-line manual. It checks out. 147 grain JHP, 3N38 - 6.3 to 6.9 gr. The VV data says that yields 1202fps from a 4" barrel Forgot to ask my friend what his load chrono'd, but his 3N38 powder charge is 6.8 to 6.9 gr, C.O.L. = 1.142" Let me know your results if you try this. I'd try it myself but can't find any primers (old story).

  23. Many more experienced shooters have told me that for revolver competition I should be using nickel plated cases because they present less friction during a reload than standard brass cases. I'm shoot .38 specials and am manic about cleaning my brass. I maintain that there is no practical difference in reload speed between nickel and (shiny clean) brass cases. Who's right? (I don't mind being wrong as I am very used to it. )
  24. +1 on the smoking Tite Group & Moly/lead!
