Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. I actually had a idiot park in the lift-zone BETWEEN two handicapped spots. Couldn't leave because there was no room for my lift to come out of the side of my van. Had to literally wait 2 hours at the medical building for the ****head to move. He did have a nice ticket waiting for him on his windshield though; I wonder who it was that complained? Honestly, I don't think most people even know what the lift-zones are or what they are for. Obviously this guy didn't care one way or the other, but better signs might make others think twice about risking it without a permit (AND for the people who DO have permits, but don't stay in there spot and take up 1/2 to 1/4 of the next spot's lift-zone.)
  2. REALLY frustrated! As I said in my first post, I bought a new can of Solo 1000 and was getting keyholing and less velocity than my previous can. So, using the same bullet AND case AND crimp/etc as I was using with my original can, I increased my charge by 0.3 then 0.5 and STILL getting keyholing AND the load feels 'hotter' than my original load (which NEVER keyholed.) What sucks is that I LOVED my previous load, and now I don't know what to do. I'm using a very heavy 160gn RN bullet and want the softest feeling load I can get (and still over 125PF) because I'm handicapped and have a wrist injury. My old load with Solo 1000 was perfect; really upset. Do you guys know of a good powder that would be similar? I have Clays but will not use it with a 160gn bullet and N320 had too much recoil/flip (I know, but it's true.) I've never tried Titegroup so I don't know if it would be super high pressure with a heavy bullet or not (plus it smokes a lot.) I was thinking of trying WST, but I don't have a lot of money to buy a bunch of different powders and test them all... I'd like to find a good replacement on the first try if possible. Thanks, -Kyle
  3. I don't remember saying anything about leaving it in a hot car. The only thing 'obvious' from your reply is your patronizing tone. Knock it off. -Kyle
  4. 1624 I can't seem to find a lot number on my old/fast/empty can? Well that makes me feel a bit better anyways. Thanks for the info. No, this was in the evening so the temp was quite moderate.
  5. Hey guys, I know a lot of you have experienced slower jugs of Solo 1000 compared to 'older' lots. What I want to know: how much did you have to increase your powder charge to in order to reach the same velocity as your 'fast' jug(s)? I recently got a new jug and have already increased my 'old jug' powder charge by 0.3 grains and am still not there. I'm assuming it's not going to take much more, but I wasn't expecting having to increase my charge by 0.5 grains! Now I'm going to be worrying about pressure.. eh. Really sucks because I absolutely LOVED my old jug of Solo 1000. Has anyone else had to deal with this amount of variance? -Kyle
  6. The Deltapoint sight mounted by Beven into the slide is an awesome setup guys! I have never shot better, both using the tip of the triangle for accuracy shots AND sticking the whole triangle into the A-Zone and firing away. I was worried I might lose the triangle in recoil since my gun isn't compensated, but with my handloads I never lost it in the window. The only thing is if you are using the tip of the triangle at mid-range distances, my load hits low (~1.5"@15yds, ~0.5"@7yds.) However, for competition there's no need to use the tip at those distances. I think the tip of the triangle is supposed to be dead on at 50yds so my results make sense. The sight is super lightweight and the triangle is very crisp and bright red. In super sunny conditions it will wash out a bit, but I imagine that happens with all red dot sights. Give Beven a call if you want it done right. Keep in mind: 15yds (last one 7yds) First time using a red dot sight Broken left wrist 17 rounds:
  7. He doesn't do any 'Witness-specific' work, this was just a barrel recrowing job (a kick-ass one!) I wanted it done right, so I sent it to Chuck. My original crown had substantial runout so yes, not just for looks, accuracy improvement at distance. I too think it looks awesome. -Kyle
  8. At first glance, it looks like molding putty... but shinier. I'm curious too. Here's a video from Henning on how to do it yourself: http://henningshootsguns.com/tech/tech.tanfoglio.bettergrip.html It is epoxy putty, just has some rustoleum textured paint over it. You shape a chunk of it with wet/oily hands, then cut excess before hardening, dremel after hardening, paint, apply grip tape if needed.
  9. Wanted to post some pics of my custom Open/Steel Challenge 9mm MINOR gun. It's a large frame EAA Witness Elite Match in 9mm that has been worked on by some of the best out there, but the highlight is the slide mounted Deltapoint I just got back from Beven @ Grams Engineering. The way he mounts these things is as secure as it is beautiful. To adjust POI, you just loosen the 2 screws on the diode 1/4 turn. Awesome setup and a special shout out to Beven for getting this done for me even though he was very busy. If you guys have any questions Beven will be watching this thread also. PS- It's hard to get a good pic of the dot, but it's actually a crisp red triangle. Gunsmithing: Beven Grams (mill slide for sight), Henning Wallgren (trigger job), Chuck Rogers (deep barrel re-crown), Matt Cheely (weld/re-work safety). Parts: EGW (ignition), Henning (firing pin, sear pin, grips, pads, holster), Chet@gogun.us (thumb rest), Leupold (red dot).
  10. When I was using the old model *thumb rest [generic]*, I had to make a spacer to clear the slidestop. The model pictured is a proto-type racer with the spacer already machined into the back of it. You will have to call or email Doc at GoGun USA and ask if the regular Racer model has a spacer built onto or not, I don't know. If it doesn't, I'm sure he'd hook you up with one that does have the spacer built in. As far as I know, I'm the only one that has tried mounting the *thumb rest [generic]* on a limited/carry gun. The only thing I did to modify it was mill off some material so I can remove my slidestop without removing the *thumb rest [generic]* every time. The prototypes I had were different only in the thickness of the spacer, I chose the one with the smallest spacer to keep it close to the frame. I love it. Call or email Chet at drchet@gogun.us and tell him I sent you. -Kyle
  11. Here's mine. It's not an Open gun but I thought I'd share anyway. I injured my left wrist and couldn't cant it forward like I used to (thumbs-forward grip) without lots of pain during recoil. I installed my thumb rest and built up my grip using epoxy putty, and I've never shot better in my LIFE. Did I mention ZERO pain in my wrist, and using the *thumb rest [generic]* Grip I can control recoil BETTER than I could using the thumbs-forward grip without a thumb-rest. Chet and the guys at the GoGun shop are AWESOME people and this thumb-rest and grip technique deserves more recognition because it really does work! -Kyle
  12. Yep, mine is awesome as well. Plus, Doc is one of the coolest guys I've ever met. Love it! -Kyle
  13. Yeah guys, it is really bad. Utterly disappointing on all levels. I'd agree with Jadeslade that the sex scenes were the only parts worth watching. What was George Clooney thinking when he took this role? When the movie ended I thought something was wrong, "That couldn't have been the ending could it? Wow, what a POS!!!"
  14. I believe 3.1gn was the most common load I came across for people using that combo. I'm surprised that you can't find much info, but remember that you are skirting the edge with this superfast-powder/heavy-bullet combo in the 9mm; the guys that do use it might be hesitant to share. I would like to try some myself if I could find it locally. -Kyle
  15. How do you like the 9mm Clark barrel?
