  1. I think that part of the beauty if IDPA is the Classifier course and the IDPA classification system itself. I would not want to see it changed. I do agree that there needs to be a Grand Master class added in IDPA to distinguish the Letham/Sevigny skill level from the person who just practiced the Classifier 500 times and barely made Master. This IDPA system does not lend itself to promoting sandbagging any more than the USPSA classification system does. Masterbagging is also as much a problem but there the shooter penalizes themself. As one who is frequently accused of being a sandbagger, I have given this issue a lot of thought.
  2. Absolutely not. Moon clip guns are only allowed if they came that way from the factory.
  3. $10 for the Classifier, $5 for a second run after everyone has had a first run. Matches are $15 with a fee of $10 for a second run after everyone has had a first run. Most other clubs in the area charge $10 for the Classifier and $20 for the regular matches.
  4. I pull the hammer back slightly and spin the cylinder at "Load amd make ready" when I suspect that I may have a bent moon clip. It does not take much for a moonclip to get warped and bind the cylinder.
  5. It is very logical, natural and rational to argue that a finger pointing/airgunning is NOT a "sight picture" when the rule book itself clearly defines "Sight Picture" as requiring the holding of an actual gun in the hands. Mayo is reading into the rules something that does NOT exist in reality. This will all be a moot case when the new rule book appears and airgunning/finger gunning are forbidden, I hope to God it is soon.
  6. Very true, IDPA is mostly an "Offensive" pistol shooting sport. If IDPA was truly "real world" then the guy who dove out the window to avoid the fight entirely would win the stage.
  7. Wouldn't that be a "Failure to Look Right" for wearing shorts?
  8. I voted for Denise Minor, although I have nothing against Michael Voight whatsoever, this seemed like an easy decision after reading both of their statements in Front Sight magazine. I work my butt off at the club and state level and do not have much use for the Nationals and dumb ass TV deals. I would like a little more assistance from HQ at the club level, I see too many local clubs struggling or folding. I do not think that watching MV hose target arrays at warp speed with his Open gun will get new shooters to the local clubs; To the contray, all IPSC shooting I have ever viewed on TV has reinforced the notion that all IPSC/USPSA shooting requires 3K race guns with scopes and ports, nothing that Joe Blow can afford. One has to twist Joe's arm to get him out to a local match, he hardly believes it will be fun without an expensive race gun. TV coverage to date has only hurt USPSA. Keep it off the air until it shows regular folks (like Mom and Dad in a T-shirt and jeans-no fancy logo outfits) shooting the guns they bought at the local gun shop stuffed in an Uncle Miikes Kydex holster that cost 20 bucks. Other wise TV coverage does a disservice to the local clubs that are trying to bring in new shooters, it reinforces stereotypes of IPSC shooting. being expensive and an equipment race. 2%, disregard at will, thank you.
  9. Ditto on replacing the pin with a piece of allen wrench. Leave it protruding quite a bit on the ends and peen them over a bit to hold it in pace. Not as pretty, but effective. Those LPA factory hinge pins only last a couple thousand rponds. LPA make the rear sight for Para, STI, SA, Kimber, etc. Same goes for Colt's GC rear sight.
  10. In Major/Minor scoring the playing field is already level. 9mm is easier and faster to shoot so it naturally scores less on C anfd D hits. Center hits are the same. Major requires longer to get back on target, so it scores more than Minor. Who needs this "Minor scoring only" rule in Production Division? I think that it just hampers the Division and is one of USPSA's dumbest rules. If Production could score Major then we could get rid of Limted 10 Division which would then be a duplication of Production and be redundant. We could also get rid of the IDPA equipment rules for Production.
  11. I just called IDPA HQ and was told that airgunning is not allowed and this rule would be in the new rule book which will be out in a number of months. Was there a mention of this in Tactical Journal? I do not recall myself.
  12. I wasn't really fishing for opinions as too the morality of airgunning or finger gunning in IDPA but I am wondering if anyone has gotten an official ruling. I have been waiting almost four weeks for an email reply from IPDA HQ. I need to call HQ. As an IDPA MD myself I would like to know. Personally, I don't really care where anyone waves their finger as long as they don't poke me in the eye. Thanks everyone.
  13. ...Not in school, but at IDPA matches. The 2001 rule book seems clear to me that an illegal "Sight Picture" at an IDPA match must be done with an actual gun in hand to consitute a "sight picture". However, SO's are telling me that pointing a finger at the targets finger-gun or air-gun style constitues an illegal "sight picture". Does any one have a definitive ruling on the sight picture rule??? Thanks very much.
  14. The swinging target WILL incur miss penalties, email just arrived from John Amidon.
  15. Ah, thank you very much for the clarification. That page of the rule book needs editing.
  16. RE: Page 60 of the 2001 USPSA rule book; 9.9 is simply nonsense as written. The sentence is a combination of typos. The second use of the word "scoring" should be "scored", but the sentence is still nonsense. Is it shall or maybe??? I will quote 9.9 as follows; "Moving targets may be scoring (scored?) and/or penalty targets and shall be scored in accordance with the following:" In addition; In rule 9.9.1 we learn that a swinger that appears several times from behind a barricade, although it does eventually completely disappear from all firing positions, WILL incur miss penalties. In rule 9.9.3 we learn that a B, C or D hit on a turning, disappearing or appearing target will score FIVE points. That's FIVE big ones, folks. WOW! I have never seen this done at any match in the last five years.
  17. I love rootin' in the mud like a hog, but I did throw my shoes in the trash before I got in my car and drove home. They weighed 15 pounds each/
  18. Patrick's gong is actually 12" at 100 yards. A buddy hit it 17 out of 18 times offhand with my Para P-16-40 last year with an entire squad witnessing. It was the first time he had ever held that pistol.
  19. Any brewer's or beermaker's guide. Sorry. I know you guys are right.
  20. It was different than last year, mostly fast and furious speed shoot type stages. Next year is the 10th. anniversary. More shooters need to show up for that event. This match is a good value, lots of bang for the buck.
  21. I just looked over the stages, this is going to be one hell of a fun match. I hope I am sober and not too hung over. I can't stand some little bastard beating my butt like I was some limp dick washed up old fart. Old, fat, lazy and stupid to boot. Well, maybe I am some LDWUOF. Can;t argue with that. See you there!
  22. Corrugated Cardboard does not have emotions or feelings Do not be afraid to whack the little bastards severely and without restraint or mercy. They will do everything in their power to mock and humiliate you. Kill the cardboard now, for it is laughing at all who miss. However, one must learn to respect the Steel. Never miss those little bastards.
  23. 9 seconds here last Sunday shooting a classifier for score. Slow, but it was damn cold!
