  1. I'm with you on this deal, if I have to replace a firing pin I can live with that. If Mossberg won't sell me one I'll make one, still can't make springs though.
  2. Make sure to take the rings off the piston and clean and polish up the contact surfaces. Mine has piston been polished to a mirror finish inside where it runs on the mag tube, around the ring lands and inside the rings and around the sealing areas. The piston and rings are a real crap magnet for sure.
  3. This is where I am on this deal. I own more than my share of shotguns, I have shot 300+ rounds a week since 1981. I am not new to shotgun many have come and gone over the years good and bad. The Mossberg has the SLOWEST lock time out of all of them with the lightest strikes. I reload and have Winchester, Cheddite, Federal and Wolf primers on hand. Hands down Wolf shotgun primers are the hardest, when I use Wolf in the Mossberg it leaves the primer with the smallest dent after being fired. So small it is hard to believe it fired, I don't used them in this gun anymore. All other fired brands look as normal in the Mossberg and the Wolf look normal after being fired in all the other curret stable of shotguns. It ALMOST looks like a cleared unfired AR round after you drop the bolt on it and the unsprung FP taps the primer thats how light a strike it has. It does this consistantly and no other gun I have does this. In my mind a better hammer spring is in order. Would be nice to be confident it will go bang when you pull the trigger. If you do a search for 930 light primer strikes it appears to have been an issue for years. Look at the pic below at the center bottom row shell this is how mine look using Wolf primers. This pic is from another thread where the same issue is with Remington factory shells. I don't use Remington shotgun primers.
  4. I just pulled the spring out of a 10-22 and it measures .040 So I tried it just putting it in under the cap without cutting it and no cocking indicator and it is lighter/softer than the Mossberg spring. Ruger Redhawk pistol springs are the same length and O.D. I found some reduced power ones laying around (12,13, 14lb.) but are too weak and according to Wolff's web site standard spring is 17lb.. The XP spring might do it, Beat them upabout a 930 XP spring while you are there.
  5. I went to another ACE and found a spring I think will work, for $0.95 @ I bought two. Range test tonight , real test this weekend. 400 round match. If it works I'll let you know and you can PM and I'll pick some up for you. Take some measurements on it and see what you have. I have been looking at the charts and am totally confused by all the different materials and formulas tofigure out the right spring. My guess is the spring is under 23lb. comparing it to some 1911 mainsprings I have it is weaker. Benny Hill or Kurt M might have some insight on this as they were in on developing this gun??????
  6. http://www.centuryspring.com/Store/search_compression.php I found this place looking at the sizes they should have one to work. How many lb. spring does a shotgun typically use????????? I used the numbers off my original spring for a search and the one it came up with was 39lbs??. looks like you have to buy $40 worth to order if I did it right.
  7. The custom springs from your link might be a way to go, don't know how much money or trouble this would be. This seems to be an issue with this gun and if enough people contacted Wolff they might make some extra power springs. I have contacted them once and they requested my spring measurements which I got right back to them and have since sent one follow up e mail and am still waiting on a responce.
  8. I tried the washer thing and saw no change either. Do you have a size or part number for the spring you got? Did you retain the cocking indicator? I knowthe O.D. needs to be .250 to fit in the cap, so if you found a larger coil diameter did you get the cocking indicator thru the center of it? Thanks
  9. The nly The only hope you had was the longer firing pin. A fresh firing pin return spring would work against you.
  10. How did you determine max length without coil bind? Off to the hardware I go.
  11. Was coil diameter and coil count the same as the original? We are talking hammer spring not firing pin spring right?
  12. After thinking about it and reading a little more, the so called "trigger job" sometimes mentioned on these may consist of a lighter hammer spring? Think a standard hammer spring would sort this out if this is the case? Possible for a 500 pump spring to work? Any sources known for replacements, I would give them a shot? Benny Hill developed these he might know about spring availability. Thanks for any help.
  13. I have had the same issue. I have called Wolff and am trying to get an extra power hammer spring. Being first and formost a shotgun guy, I noticed right out of the box the light, mushy trigger and slow lock time. The cocking indicator may limit the coil I.D.. but I don't see eliminating that a big issue, the o.d.of the spring will need to stay .250in though. Conact Wolff if they hear from enough 930 owners they will probably make one. My next call will be to Mossberg but with my previous dealings not feeling much hope unless already in the pipeline from others. Anyone know where to get a spring or know what other brand shotgun hammer spring would work? I bet Jerry doesn't have that whimpass spring in his guns.
  14. If you look the top skeet shooters in the country are shooting 30 to 32in. long barrel O/U guns. Many are out of the box "Trap" guns and a few are switcing to very high rib guns so they can shoot with their heads in a more up right position. Sporting is heading the same direction with alot of high and adjustable ribs. Some up to 34in. barrels. Ceasar Guereni, Krieghoff and Blaser all come to mind with high ribs for skeet and sporting.
  15. What he said. I struggled for years with guns that did not fit. Now I know what I need and own Trap guns only ( I don't shoot trap) with one execption and it proved my point again to me, slow learner. Years ago when the Citori Plus Trap came out I shot one and thought I died and went to heaven. Within days I owned one and went out and shot 490 out of 500 in our winter skeet league. I since talked myself into an nice 20ga. Sporting Browning XS (the exception) thinking "I can shoot this". Nope, struggled ended up putting on a taller rib because to hit with it there was way too much space between the beads and was looking way over the gun and also getting an adjustable comb. Now I shoot it as well as my other guns, all trap models with high to way high ribs that all shoot 50/50 for me. I shoot a Citori Trap XT with subgage tubes that weighs in almost 10lbs. at skeet and sporting. Gotta go with what won't beat you up and shoots where you look no matter what it says on the box. After a box car full of shells, a few years and few guns you will know exactly what works for YOU. Good Luck and hope you find your combo quick.
  16. They make both clear and black. Is one any more durable than the other? Thanks
  17. I treat them as any other 1 piece free float tube. Never tried to remove the tube from the barrel nut. Best case strap wrench, worst case wrapped leather belt around the tube at the nut end and pipe wrench. Have not boogered one yet knock on wood. Just like any other 1 piece if you drilled it for sling studs and such if you put it on another upper or barrel combo it most likly will not clock in the same place.
  18. Are the FNH SLP Invector Plus choke tubes the same/interchangeable with Browning Invector Plus choke tubes? I went to the Briley site and all they show are the old Standard Invector tubes that appear to be the same for FN and browning. Thanks.

    Trap Gun

Used should be had around Remington prices. Beretta 390 with choke tubes so you can shoot any game, fixed choke guns are a minus at sale time if that ever comes, 30in bbl. good all round length, Chrome lined standard. Barrel lengths for the games have gone up big time from when I started, 26/28in. o/u were the norm for skeet, now most shoot a 30/32in. o/u for skeet and once in a while see 34in. The stocks have some adjustment with supplied shims for cast and comb height. I have shot all the games with it skeet, trap, sporting, crazy quail and zz bird. I have burned up a couple box car loads of shells since about 1981 thru a batch of guns. One of the softest shooting and well built autos out there, responsive not whippy. I have had em come and go this one stays. I lone it to new shooters as not to beat them up with recoil and run them off, as if the cost isn't rough enough these days to do it. Don't see much youth coming in right now. I have owned and shot the snot out of a bunch, Mossbergs to Remington to K=80s and this gun will do it all without a problem or handicap. After a certain point you can't buy birds, you just look good missing, don't ask me how I know The ONLY down side is chasing hulls and a little more effort to clean as with all autos. Good luck with how ever you go, try to shoot as many different guns possible before you buy it will save you a TON of cash.
  20. That's my load with a 124 Berry's FPHB. I tried TG and thought it was terrible. WSF is much more pleasant to shoot. Just the recoil or was accuracy a factor?
  21. This guy did alot of work to compile this. http://spreadsheets.google.com/pub?key=tsU_kAjONKoGGfkDPaQZX1Q&single=true&gid=0&output=html
  22. Any links or sites to look these kits over? Anyone have picks of this equipment? Went to a few and did not see much if anything. Thanks for any info.

  24. Fits an A2 stock, replaces the complete trap door butt plate assembly. The center of butt pad is slotted with access to the adjustment screw for cant and drop adj. Can be seen in the pic link from OP It slides up and down and rotates. The plate that screws to the stock has allens thru the side that clamp the plate down on the rod that slides in and out for L.O.P. Also can be seen in pic. It is a stout unit, you may want to knock the sharp edges off of the recoil pad as it does have teeth and after a long day of shooting you may get a little raw. Accuracy Speaks also offers one of these but way more $$$. about the only difference is it has a more friendly butt pad on it. I have both. They raised the price almost double since I got mine. As mentioned above spacers that go between you receiver and stock will work for LOP but do nothing for drop or cant.
  25. Found these the other day stumbling through ACO in the paint dept. $12, 4lbs, they are about 12in. x 12in. out of the package. Cut to size, work great for shotgun as you can get a big enough patch for scrubbing. 223 round for package size reference. This was packed tight with rags like vacuum packed, I already pulled and cut some up from this batch.
