  1. The biggest reason I don't like them is that they aren't that hard at all IF you have one to practice with. That just isn't fair. I do have access to them, just in case you think I am whining. I'm talking about the average Joe who doesn't, and they are re-shoots waiting to happen. You can clean them with four shots because the falling plates can hit the plates left (I have it on tape and I threw an extra round downrange even thought the plate was falling just so I would have a better chance of no reshoot.)
  2. ..and make the rifles have tube mags, and no speed loader for the revolvers, oh wait, that would be cowboy action... many of their shotguns are tube fed too...
  3. Alex, what trigger are you using?
  4. "...your sight is your best friend, crystal clear, the target is slightly fuzzy, press to the rear, one hair at a time..." "...sights crystal clear, that dictates the speed at which you shoot the target..." Good stuff
  5. If you sight in off a rest you will not be sighted in for freestyle, so the above post is a good way to do it.
  6. Patience and practice, if it were easy... You are losing out if you do't practice reloading from a table, kneeling, prone, moving left, moving right, backing up, moving forward, and sitting. just my 2 cents
  7. The biggest problem for me with this method is that that hardest part of the reload is waiting for the old mag to fall out When I was dryfiring like a mad man, I was knocking the old mag back in with the new mag, and yes I was gettting on the button fast
  8. Jake, You have some serious skillz, but I think the original question was so brief that there was some wanting to know about the thought process that went into the setting of the goal (on my part anyways.) We all work differently, so understanding someone else isn't easy, especially in cyberspace. Mistake free stages, matches, season would be great, how to get there, now that's the $10,000 question. Who care if others think your goals are right, wrong, realistic, or fantasy, you know you have proved one point for sure. You have a vision and the balls and dedicaion to "go for it." That is more than most.
  9. Thanks! I was pondering that this morning with the way the rules change all the time. The 10 vs 8 rounds seems like it might be a bigger deal than in a pistol depending on how long it takes to change a mag. If I went with the 20 my gut tells me they might ban it or make it minor somehow I like the idea of cheap and mags and maybe even a Kobra sight (I had one once and they are cool.)
  10. Did you mean a better goal might be to get 95% of the points every match? Some argue that negative goals aren't as good.
  11. Thanks! Does it dump plates and poppers ok? I've seen very few 20's in the few matches I've been to.
  12. Sorry I should have been more clear, I was refering to the "tap" that some people do when the gun doesn't go all the way into battery (on the rear of the slide.) We have some "seasoned shooters" that apparently were trained this way many moons ago, and it sure has caused some nasty jams.
  13. If you practice you won't need one on a STI. The advantage is if you miss the magwell will help. The advatage is, if you don't use one you will probably practice more and have a better reload.
  14. Thanks for the tip G. It doesn't take much to seat it, but I wouldn't have thought to check that.
  15. Thanks guys, I now have a lightened hammer, man that was easy. I generally download my 30 rounders but it was happening with the 20's too. I'll try loading them with 19 and hopefully with the "speed" hammer I'll be good to go.
  16. Thanks Kurt. I've been shooting it with my thumb in front of the pistol grip a bit and it doens't jam that way, but it is just awkward, so I'm on the look out for a straight stock that isn't too expensive.
  17. What are the pros and cons? I am thinking about one for an open shotgun.
  18. I have a AR-15 that I am using Wolf ammo, JP Trigger, and standard hammer. I'm getting a light hit occasionaly on the first round out a mag. The upper doesn't have a forward assist. I was thinking about "lightening" the hammer. I was just going to drill some holes in it. Is this just dumb? I am using this gun as the basis for a light, open gun. I am using a 18" barrel, carbon fiber upper, lightend forend, TA01 for the scope, and a C-more for the close sight. I might shoot open if I can get a Saiga mag fed shotgun, since I just can't stomach the speed loaders for shotguns and I don't care to work Kurt like reloading skillz for something I would shoot a couple of times a year. Thanks for the input.
  19. Would loosening it up help at all? How much do you guy lighten the carrier and can you buy a lightened carrier so you can just swap them out?
  20. ****Caution***** Only do the tap rack drill with case guaged ammo unless you want some SERIOUS jams. I've seen more than a few people really jam up their gun with that particular method because it is amazing how hard you can tap with adrenaline.
  21. Jerry M, TGO, Taran... Just some encouragement for those guys who are older or not as slim as they once were. I'm not knocking being in shape one bit, just observing that some of the best can perform at the highest level in the sport and not be the slimest, or most fit.
  22. yep I believe this is the single biggest hurddle to overcome for good shooters. Realizing speed is a byproduct of doing thing right, and without hesitation, and not a product of our desire. Trusting yourself when you see how fast everyone else looks isn't as easy as it sounds, but you already knew that.
  23. If you remove everything from your brain except seeing the shots, what you see will determine how fast YOU can go on each shot. This has produced the FASTEST split times I've ever had, and they actually hit the targets where I knew they would. If you focus on speed, well we know where that leads...
