  1. I'm sure the rules were followed...I just wanted to know what things might have an effect on chronograph consistency with infrared screens.

I still contend there was something wonky with the chronograph stage when our squad went through...too many of the FREAKIN' TOP SHOOTERS IN THE WORLD having problems to be normal.

I haven't shot any major matches, so how does the protest work? do they voice a protest and, after equipment verification immediately get re-checked? or are they given the option to re-check at another time, say 30min to an hour later?

Chrono is just like any other stage and same rules apply, You only get one chance to shoot it there is not second change if the shooter messes up.

Personally knowing the RM at this match, as well as, his account of it, the Rules were followed by the book. He has a "lot" of calibration and chrono ammo he has used over a few years and matches and checks before and after resulted in 1% difference. Results were also consistent with historical data.

  2. ....it seemed our squad had more trouble than would be statistically reasonable with Strader and Mink going sub-minor, Ben just skating by with his factory stuff that makes power everywhere else, and Randi Rogers barely making major, with the same ammo+ gun Sevigny was using, who didn't have any trouble.

..like the chronograph went temporarily insane, just for our squad. I have no experience using infrared screens...so that is why I asked the question. I chronograph a lot and usually my results match within 1 pf at matches, but not this one. It was an awesome match and really enjoyed getting to see the top dogs shoot! Linda and crew also did a super quick job getting the score posted. I just wish me and "mike" weren't such good friends.....

  3. I shot IPSC Nationals in SC Sat with the production "super squad" and observed some chrono issues and several major shooters barely making power, or in Phil Strader and Matt Mink's case, scores being tossed by going sub-minor. Ben Stoeger, using factory ammo, just barely made power..and Tori Nonaka had an issue, too...among others. Two CED chronos with infrared screens in a large cardboard covered box, sitting in direct sunlight were used. One of the shooters on the squad had ammo shot earlier in the day and made power by a comfortable margin. When tested later in the day, it took the 7th shot of the same ammo to BARELY make power. The chronograph was tested again after the issues, and it was considered correct by match officials.

I suspect that heat build up in the box affecting electronics had something to do with variation, since I can't come up with any better explanation. Matt tested his ammo this morning, in much colder conditions, and it made 130pf.... like the week before at IDPA Nationals.

What are some of the variables that could cause a chrono with this set up to read low?????

We shot the chrono stage in the afternoon. My ammo made power, but I had cranked in 2/10th of a grain more Solo 1000 just for insurance. The ammo already made 130pf at home before the increase in charge...made 128pf there. The powder Matt is using is not of the inverse sensitivity type, unlike what I am using.

  4. I loaded on the Lee Classic Turret 4 hole for several years. Yes, it's not as fast as a 550, but if you are just doing a few hundred a month, it's nearly fool proof, and super easy to change calibers. I upgraded to a Hornady Load-n-load AP, got 500 free bullets, for less than a used 550. I guess I like red.

  5. .....I shot the 9mm Tanfo Match, it performed well, I did not and dropped a crap load of points on the first day. I had a problem on the Standards, but I'm not sure what happened....the only highlight was besting Vogel on stage 12!! SHooting with friends and a good group of guys from Venezuela was great.

  6. Deflation should occur in the match fees if attendance is going to remain near the same. I think with the number of folks out of work, there are shooters that can't participate any longer, while others are just watching their wallet. I know I skipped a match because I thought the fees were too much and instead spent the money on 3 new mags.

People will still shoot, but just maybe not as often as before the ammo price spike/start of the recession/depression.

  7. My lightened slide weighs 333 grams..@11.75 oz. Not sure of the stock weight, but I think it was about 3/4 to 1 oz more. I'm running the heavy spring that came with the Limited, which is about a 12lbs. Here is a link to a vid of me and the gun. It works great for me. I don't think the slide lightening is a must, but it sure looks great!

  8. I had the same problem in my Tanfoglio Limited with the Precision moly and Solo 1000. Tried some BBI bullets, problem disappeared, the barrel was easy to clean, not the extreme chore it was with the Precisions.

Been using Precision Black bullets for a while and don't know if it has always been doing it or if this is something new this year but my barrel is getting leaded very badly even after 100 rounds. It is so bad that it took me several hours of scrubbing to get clean. A buddy of mine claims he had previously shot 15K + of them through the gun and did not have a major problem in the past. He is also experiencing the same problems now too. Whats changed? What can be done differently if anything?

  9. Henning Wallgren has mentioned about working on some fiber optic fronts that are more suited to the Match rear sight. I have two of the older, Supersight equipped Matches. You can always get your slide cut for them....

I have a Witness Match in 9mm which I purchased last year. The pistol is extremely accurate and I have shot thousands of my handloads through it without any problems. My only complaint is with the sights. I had to raise the rear sight to it's extreme height to be able to get on target. The sights also do not have any white or other colored component which makes it difficult to get a good sight picture when shooting at all black silhouette targets. I would like to know what, if any, kind of replacements sights are available for this pistol and are they difficult to install. TIA

  10. I'm looking forward to the match and the week after since I'm on vacation...I'm definitely getting some shooting in!

I just wish at least one of my IDPA legal guns had a magwell, but I can even fumble a reload with my Limted gun...

Be sure to check out the Tri-Lakes section of the Dem-Gaz Sunday. The outdoors story is ..girls..with guns ...at the BGC!!

  11. Ha! ESP/EX....since I got bumped to SSP/MA last year. Experimentation cost me a couple of places last year, since I loaded a new bullet a short while before Nationals. I had a failure to feed due to some moly build up on the feed ramp, and the front edge of the brass "plowing" said moly...so I ~should~ know better than to go with something not proved to be reliable.

Whats your classification, and which gun doesnt run ?:roflol:

Dan Wesson PM-9 in ESP/SS for me.

Which one have you shot the most recently, or can shoot the best? I'd vote for most reliable first, then personal performance.

  12. Actually, the Match frame fits my lanky hand a bit better, it's a little longer front to back than the SP-01. I'm going to run some rounds through the 9 Match and the SP-01 back to back, shoot an IDPA match with the 9 Match...and go from there.

As already stated pick the one you feel most comfortable with, and do it soon. After you choose go get some rounds through it.

I went through the same decisions. I normally shoot ESP but am shooting SSP at Nationals so my 1911 9mm was out. I tried to go back to my M&P but ended up deciding on my CZ 75B. I have been using it for a month now and so far so good.

  13. Conundrum..2 calibers, 3 pistols, and not much time left to decide.

I usually shoot an SP-01 for SSP, but was thinking of shooting it in ESP. I have two Tanfoglio/EAA Match pistols, in 9 and 40, both 2005 production guns with the LPA Supersight. I've got the most trigger time on the CZ (and brought home a big plaque from Nationals last year with it, and a smaller one ,too) but have shot the 40 Match a good bit in Limited. I've really fallen in love with the Supersight + Henning made .090 front for the Tanfos and can be very accurate, and the CZ is like a laser beam with the right bullets, but has a porkier front sight. I've got the least time on the 9mm Match, and it is the least proven. I'm leaning toward shooting the 40 Match with a nice and minor 155 Hornady XTP load since the 180s seem so sluggish. The 9 Match is sooooooft, the slide/barrel assembly weighs an oz. more than the 40. THe CZ is old reliable, but I feel I might be giving up a little trigger feel to the SA guns.

Which would you pick and why?

  14. Henning's replacement trigger takes out the side-to-side slop..the conefit guide rod would be a good idea ,too,... my .40 Match was showing sign of frame peening.

Hello I am new to EAA/Tanfoglio and just purchased a match in 10mm.

I was cleaning the factory "goop" from it and getting ready to go soot it.

I noticed the trigger seems to have quite a bit of lateral play. Is this fairly normal for the breed?

Second I have seen a many people switch to a heavier recoil spring right away. I am on the fence with this idea.

Seems like a little heavier or a wolf replacement might do the job without over stressing things in the forward end.

Oh and perhaps one of the conefit guiderods

This will not be a competition pistol btw but I do plan to shoot full house loads through it.

    Thanks

  15. They are available, but might take some looking depending on what caliber you want. I'd highly recommend looking for an older supersighted version...

Do they still sell the model without rails? I really think if I can get a lighter guide rod and grips I will make the cut, Cheaper than buying a whole other gun.

  16. Thanks! You think hennings aluminum grips weigh less than the walnut?

The Henning grips are heavier than wood, but I think they are lighter than the rubber grips. I know my Match (2005 production, no-rail with Supersight) 9mm weighs 43.02 oz with the Henning grips and an empty mag.

  17. Yep, I called them just to see if they might have some in...I specifically asked for the new design, rear spacer, 9mm mags..they said they had some. Quick shipping, but they sent me the wrong damn thing. I mean, is it THAT hard to get the right thing to the customer? My guess is they don't have any and want to unload all of the old style mags. I was going to use the gun for IDPA Nationals....eff'em, I'll shoot my SP-01 in ESP. Let's hope Henning wrests the import license for Tanfoglio from those guys.

  18. I have had several examples of CZ and Tanfoglio with some less than great QC, but the CZs have been better than the Tanfos. I also hate any other trigger style besides the classic trigger, the new curved ones are awful. The shape of the DA tanfo triggers aren't any better. Only one in three CZs had some QC issues, but 2 of three Tanfoglio have QC issues. A lighter hammer spring and synthetic lube on the fire control parts really helps the quality of the CZ trigger pull...and lots of use!

  19. I wonder if CZ realizes how much people hate their new trigger designs? Why did they think a new design was needed..are they looking to unload a bunch of pistols to some short fingered dwarf army?
