  1. I'm a high C Limited and Production shooter (almost bclass) Last time I shot El Prez, my splits were .14-.16 shooting my SP-01. I've been told before by a GM friend of mine to slow it down a bit to improve accuracy. I've been running a Tanfoglio Match .40...that I've been shooting much better than my SP-01. I noticed last night how much slack was in the overtravel and tightened it down a bit. I got to thinking, that perhaps a bit of overtravel is good, because it slows me down just enough to get a better sight picture rather than cranking away on the trigger as fast as I can. Anybody else set up their gun for more overtravel than needed for this purpose??

  2. I bought a Match, used, several months ago. It is an older model with the LPA Supersight. I've put some Henning grips on it and a 1mm iFiber front from him ,too. Weighs in at @41.5 ounces. My second match with it, shooting Limited/Major, I shot within 4% of an A class open shooter, who was high overall at our club match. I'm a C/ Limited shooter.

Great gun for the money, but the crappy sights that come on the new models are a drawback. Henning is supposed to have a new sight for them soon.

    Matt,

Thank you.. I will be in touch!

    Randy

  3. Awesome, thanks Henning!

That sight helped me shoot one of my best USPSA matches ever, even if if it was crooked and almost fell off (I'd moly-resin'ed it in place, thinking the screw would not come loose.. I was wrong)

    Hey Rusty

I cut you a deal on your 2nd iFiber. Do as Charlie says.

The first three batches of the iFibers were everything from tight to loose in various slides it was installed in. We tried to make an absolute perfect fit and I used 5 slides that I had to determine what the width/dimensions should be. The slides are too different to be able to do this unfortunately. The factory approached things differently. Obviously, the factory is a much sloppier product and they put a different angle on their sights resulting in a definite metal-shave on every install.

Based on feedback on the first batches we did this... believe it or not... but we made the width 1/2 thousand thicker... that is 0.0005" !!! And on these tolerances that is quite a bit. It makes some sights tight to fit and some perfect. What is important is that you have the sight absolutely perfectly lined up at the bottom of the slide. If you are slightly off, which is easy to do and can be hard to see.. you'll see the sight go in with metal-shavings. From what I've installed so far, if you've got the sight lined up perfectly... you can use a hammer and tap it in even if it's tight. If you think it's too tight, use a file very very carefully. But my guess is that it wasn't lined up 100%. If your experience is different, please call or email me. I cannot control what the factory does, but I can control the products I make.

    ;-)

  4. I've got a supersighted match 40. The front sight came off without mutch trouble. There is a slight groove in it though, where metal was shaved away by the slide. I tried to put the iFiber on, and a piece of metal was shaved from the side, but it continued in a curve, lifting the sight in the dovetail, I tried to file it down so that it would fit. I eventually got it on, but was crooked. (:o(

I shot the gun anyway in a match and came within 5% of an A class open shooter.

I just ordered another iFiber and hope to not F this one up..they are too expensive to ruin another one!!

So, any tips on getting this one installed correctly?

  5. Yep,172 or about, so the tinkertoy tells me (Shooting Chrony). The 6.8 load felt nicer than the 6.6 load that I tested....I guess the 3 port comp that's on my Tanfo is tuned for the old 175PF....

I heard good stuff about IMR as well. So your running about 172-174 pf? Same pf of ammo I get from atlanta arms and ammo. I think I should try that, starting about 6.4 grains then try to go up. Thanks.
  6. Check your message box....

I have a 9mm match upper I was thinking of getting rid of. I bought it for my standard, compact witness and was told by the guy i bought it from it would fit and it didn't. It is pretty nice and unique, It is for the newer large frame, has factory fiber optic sights, supersight, 4 3/4" 9mm barrel. I was told by the guy who sold it to me, who was EAA's former General Manager, that is was unused but the barrel looks to maybe have some slight use. It is in great shape. I hate to get rid of it but the cost to get it to fit is more than I want to spend on it. I discussed this upper with Mr. Henning and we thought it might have been a longslide upper for a small frame 9mm. I wrote the guy who sold it to me and he said we were mistaken and that this was imported when they switched all the match's to the large frame. I know I'm probably supposed to put this in the classifieds but I don't have enough posts under my belt. Sorry, just seen this post and thought I'd throw this out there. Write me if interested. Thanks
  7. Well, I tried some IMR SR7625, it costs almost as much as Vhit...seemed to work and feel great through my 9x21 small frame Gold Team. I haven't seen how much of a 9x19 case it would fill though. Seems it might be a tight fit!

    6.8gr at 1.15 + 124 Zero FMJ

    they chronoed

    1412

    1408

    1407

    1408

    1405

Load should be almost the same for 9x19

It was a hell of alot nicer than the hs-6 I was using!

Thanks guys. how about for a vhit powder?
  8. A CZ SP-01 Shadow?? Do those come with the flat wire recoil spring like a standard SP-01? It is meant for +P ammo and is too strong for 132 pf. How far is your brass ejecting? You might consider a 10lb recoil spring if the brass is just barely leaving the gun.

hi, i have recently bought a shadow and i like the way it handles aside from a nagging problem: JAMS! at first the empty shell is only partially extracted so the next round is on the way up so its a pretty messy situation, failure to extract with a double feed after clearing. what i did was change out to a wolff extra power extractor spring: runs well at first then after a 100 rnds jams again! it seems the spring is too stiff, not letting go of the shell in time after firing so i have a stovepipe now. any suggestions on how to solve this? ammo is 124 fmj loaded with vvn320 with a pf of around 132. TIA guys.
  9. I've got an old Gold Team and a newer Match I bought used, both seem prone to "rusting" in places on the grip. I Moly Resin-ed the gold team, but not sure I want to do that to the match yet. I thought these were hard chromed??...why do they corrode? What's the best method to remove it? I don't want to make the matt finish shiny, though, which might exclude something aggressive. I could just cover it with grip tape...

  10. I think he's talking about me (I might be wrong, though)!! I'm shooting a CZ SP-01 running some plated 147s with 3.2-3.4gr Hodgdon Clays, and they are running almost 900fps, and it sounds soft. People give me crap about it. Heavy bullet + fast powder is the way to go.

Yep, the gun doesn't recoil much....you wonder why the majority of the top ten production shooters at World Shoot XV were shooting an SP-01? I finished 4th at the match (the Hillbilly Classic at CASA in Little Rock, AR)....I also finshed 4th at the 2008 Arkansas Sectional, where ammo was chronographed.

Ok so i'm no pro shooter but I try to be the best that I can be. I make sure my loads (I shoot production) hit around 128 PW and have actually taken parts off my gun once I learned weren't "production legal" because I want to shoot legit. I feel I would rather come in last place and shoot it fairly than have to cheat to win. ok my case:

A friend and myself recently went to a yearly match that was for cash prizes and we got squadded with a guy who was hovering around top C class and had splits that would have made TGO envious (well maybe not that quick). I mean they were blazing fast but the funny thing is the gun never recoiled. I mean it didn't lift at all and he was shooting production. Now he did have plenty of mikes but the fast follow up shot sure did make a difference on shots.

Everybody was talking about this saying things like "it sounds like a 22" and "you don't even need earplugs" i just am having a hard time letting it go. I even asked a guy on our squad if they were going to chrono or not and he laughed and said no not at this match and asked why I asked him that and I told him I didn't know if everybody in our squad would make power factor and he laughed again and said yeah i know what you mean i've really been wondering about that since the first match, and the guy I was talking to was an area coordinator. My buddy who has been shooting for a long time said he was shooting "super minor" and that some people just enjoy cheating and it makes them feel good. I looked this guys number up and he's shot alot but only at two local ranges and my friend told me that this guy

    either

    (a) will only shoot locally with matches that don't make you chrono

    (B) if he ever does shoot a major match will either shoot for no score or have lots of mikes because of actually having to deal with recoil

Ok so why does this still eat me up??????????????????????????

  11. I'm running a barry mount I got from Henning Wallgren on a older Tanfoglio Gold Team, and as my first open gun, the mount made the transition to a red dot ~almost~ seemless. I run my gun well lubed, and I get some oil spray on the back of the lens, but not enough to make me clean it during a match. Swapping the windage adjustment screw just takes a few minutes with a drill press and a modified flat tip screwdriver to break loose the ajustment screw. I didn't (or haven't yet ) swapped the lock screw. It was a simple enough operation.

  12. I thought so, just wanted to make sure since CZ uses a .40 size diameter barrel in the 9mm SP-01.

My brain is going to melt trying to decide what gun to get for shooting Limited-major...it's basically between converting my small frame Gold Team to .40 (Cheap!!)..and I'll be fighting against mag capacity, a .40 Match, or spending the bucks on a CZ Tactical Sports....or maybe , perhaps, a .40 Limited.

an un-educated answer is no. I have an older small frame Witness LongSlide that I purchased in .40. I had to buy a 9mm top to get 9mm. Extractor is different for one.
  13. thanks. Moly resin is pretty easy to spray, even with a really cheap air brush, but I've had better luck with air compressor powered sprayers (rather than a can of propellant). Some duct tape cut into thin strips helps in taping off the curves, really important when you blast the finish. I used some 120 grit aluminum oxide. I made sure the polished sides were well taped before I did that! One thing I would do if I spray it again..is to not tape so closely, overspray the edges slightly, then go back with a q-tip and solvent to clean up the edges, before baking the frame to cure the finish.

That is a great looking pistol. I like the lines with the black. How did you do it? Something I may want to do to my Elite Limited. Good look.
  14. Since I can't help but to tinker with guns, my last firearm purchase came under the gun...the paint gun. I liked the look of the guns canyon creek has been turning out, so out came the flat black moly resin. I also filed off the useless front sight. I hated the wood grips on it, so I ordered a pair of fullsize rubber grips and chopped them down. They could stand a little quality time with a belt sander to thin them a bit, but is not too big a grip. Now after doing the work, I think I either want to sell it for a limited gun in .40..or just buy a .40 top end and sell the comped upper, c-more and mount. It would be fun to shoot ESP class with it, too. .40 Minor.....

  15. I've got the LPA TTF fiber optic sights on my SP-01. They are tall, and not really aesthically pleasing, but only a blind person would have trouble seeing them! I've got a 12lb recoil spring and a 15lb hammer spring with @1.5 coils clipped off with a little work to the stock hammer hooks and have installed the 85 Combat trigger. I'm running 147s through it and most of the time shoot limited minor at the local club. Makes me happy when I can beat the guys shooting S_Is...with my production gear.

  16. I ordered a Barry mount for my small frame, old school , 9x21 Gold Team. It arrived Sat. afternoon, my match was Sun. at 10am. I mounted it, using the orignal screws since the ones shipped with the mount were too long and didn't allow the slide to be racked. It fit perfectl to te frame, but was really close on the spacing for the C-More holes. I went to the range to dial the C-more in after some rough adustment at home, not having moved the adjustment screws to the other side. I only had to remove it twice to access the windage screw, two rounds into a 1/4 square at 10 yards....good enough for me. I've never shot open before, or even shot a dot equipped pistol, or anything that made major for a match. I fired about 50 rounds just for a little practice. At the match, besides having problems with a too long round that didn't chamber, and be bumbling a mag change. On my best two stages, I dropped 2 points out of the 220 possible, but came in 2nd to an A class shooter who was a bit quicker than me. Having the dot so close to the top of the slide really reduced the learning curve for me! The only downside is the fact that I run my gun well lubed, and I was getting spray on the shooter side of the lens. Thumbs up (and thanks to Emma for getting that thing shipped to me in time).
