  1. I guess I could take pre-orders for match magwell for both large and small frame. When there's enough demand we can make them ? Otherwise it'll be a lost cause on my end.

You should consider an aluminum magwell for the older non-rail Match, so that it meets weight and height regulations for ESP division in IDPA. I'm going to shoot one for IDPA Nationals this year, either a 9 or 40. The 9mm will be harder to make weight since the slide weighs 1oz more than the 40....

  2. Using Solo 1000+ Precision bullets, I have gotten a hard plastic like build up in spots in the bore that is extraordinarily hard to clean. No such problem with the BBI bullets. I'mve gone back to shooting jacketed Precision Delta and will probably go back to shooting Zero JHPs down the road.

  3. Are you using 10mm mags? With those, I can run factory length .40 and up to 1.20+, but I usually run my 170 pf, 185gr Solo 1000 load @1.19. Not sure what the longest OAL you can use, though, but it's north of 1.22.

I just bought a EAA limited and am wondering if anyone has any OAL info on them. What's the best place to start and what's the longest that will chamber? I will be using Zero 180gr HP and mixed range brass. 1.180 is the number that a lot of people use and that's probably where I'll start. Thanks!!!

  4. What caliber???? I think the stock .40 spring is 14lbs. I'm running a a 12lb in my Limited .40 for USPSA. I've run as low as a 10 lb. spring in a 40 Match, even with Major PF ammo. If it's a 9mm, you can go all the way down to 8lbs....

  5. Actually, the "g" is almost silent...//tan-fOh-leeO//

    Hi all,

I just bought a new base model EAA Tanfoglio all steel full size 9mm Witness. (I found that the pistol I normally use for USPSA, a 9mm Taurus PT-911 -- while a well made and a great looking gun -- just didn't have even close to the accuracy required for USPSA, so it was time for a new gun!).

Three dumb questions: 1. How do you pronounce "Tanfoglio"; 2. How to adjust the rear sight (this is not the simple Witness drift-type sight, but it is larger and has two small hex screws, and the sight is marked "LPA" ); 3. And what do I call this particular pistol, a "EAA Witness" or a "Tanfoglio"?

See, I told you these would be dumb questions.

  6. Too heavy and the 4.5 in. cone lock barrel is .3 inches too long.

I looked in the rule book and under ESP rules it should be ok. But under the general prohibited mods it lists bull barrels which it has. It also has a full length dust cover. EAA website site lists it as IDPA legal, but I don't think that means much. What do you think?

  7. I am also considering the EGW mawell. It looks quite minimalist, and I can use the stock basepads on the mags. THe CC piece is much nicer looking, but also costs 2.5x as much.

Something i thought could work on the Tanfo large frame is the Dawson [aluminum] Ice for Para. Supposed to be back in production soon.

If weight is not an issue with the C.C. mag well, its a beautiful part for sure.

  8. I would highly recommend Henning's fiber optic front sight. I prefer the .090 width, a little thinner than stock, but it is very precise in use.

went to the range to practice and stupid front sight fell out when the gun was in holster..Couldnt find the darn thign anywhere..No while i never seem to USE it the gun sure is ugly without it...lol Anyone have a factory fiber frt sight to get rid of?

  9. I'm concerned about it weighing too much....anyone have an idea of how much weight it adds to the gun? It will need to be cut down anyway to fit in the IDPA box. My frame, slide, and mag weigh a total of 39.42 oz., which does not include grips. So grips and magwell must less than 3.58 ounces... Anyone have a weight for their CC magwell equipped match?

  10. If it is an older one, that is better..since they come with an LPA Supersight. Pair that with a Henning .090 front fiber optic sight, makes for an awesome setup. A Canyon Creek magwell and Henning basepads will only make it better.

i am wanting to start shooting competition but don't have a gun to use. my buddy wants me to get into 3 gun and i do but thought if i got a pistol first i could start shooting right away. my friend has an eaa witness match .40 that he said i could buy for $400. it only has one 15 round mag so i have alot to buy. does have a holster with it. do you think that would be a good gun to start with and how would you go about getting all the stuff i need to start with it? thanks for your help

  11. I have the same "problem" with my .40 Limited. I'm running a 12lb recoil spring, shooting 167pf 200gr bullets, with a Henning long firing pin, stronger and longer than stock fp spring. I am thinking shortening the ejector may be the ticket. My brass is going @20 ft. I wonder if the general shape of my SP-01 ejector would work with the Tanfo...

If I am understanding you, I saw this with my EAA 9mm Match as well. It looked like a 'lolipop', the normal primer dent with a vertical line below it. I was using a very light recoil spring and the load was a little too hot. I swapped the recoil spring for a heavier one and the primer marks went away. In the end, I ended up putting the lighter spring back in and using a softer load because I liked the feel better. I don't think it is going to hurt anything... but it did bother me like it appears to be bothering you. Since a heavier spring didn't work for you, I now have Henning's XL firing pin in my gun and its a sweet part. I don't know if it would fix your 'problem' but it might be worth a try.

  12. The polymer framed SP-01 Phantom might be the ticket.

I'm looking for a pistol for my girlfriend so she can shoot production class with me. I have a 75-SA and a Glock 17 and she finds the grips to wide for her small hands so I need something that has thinner grips and after handling the P-07 I thought it just might be the ticket.

Do you think the P-07 would make a good IDPA and USPSA production class gun?

    Thanks

  13. I've got an older Epson flatbed scanner at work, it does a pretty good job on negs and transparencies. I would imagine you could find a dedicated film scanner on ebay, used, for a reasonable sum.

So, I've got a high schoold reunion coming up (don't ask how many years). In high school I was the annual/newspaper photographer. I have around 7000, 35 mm B&W negatives that I would like to scan. The purpose being to sell copies of the pictures on a web site before & after the reunion (Huzzah Capitalism!). I've got the web stuff covered, but I need an idea of a scanner that can do a really good job with a fairly high, in my estimation, throughput -- I've got until October to do this. I will want to scan at a relatively high resolution so that people can make decent prints from the scans.

Any hardware suggestions that will not totally destroy my savings? Drum scanners are out, I think as too expensive. So I'm thinking a flat bed.

  14. Wow, that sucks....

I had a break in at my house, they just kicked in the door from the carport, splintering the door frame but not the door. Dumbasses obviously didn't see my sign out front stating the house is equipped with an alarm. Well, the only thing they got was the case for my Witness Limited that contained one mag and the original wooden grips. That was aggravating , so I can only imagine losing an Open gun like that..

  15. I'm experiencing moly buildup in my barrel that is extremely hard to clean. It's really in the first 1.5 -2 inches from the chamber. I'm running 185gr Precisions at 1.19, over @4.6gr of Solo 1000, using an EGW undersize die, no crimp die, of course. I have been running some 9mm 130gr BBI bullets in my SP-01 with Lee dies and a Lee FCD. THe barrel is very easy to clean. Just wondering if anyone else is running into this?? I wonder if the U die is making the case deform the bullet on seating, causing the bullet to not make a good seal (up to the case rim) and allows the burning power around the side of the bullet, causing the moly to be deposited on the barrel. I may load some without the U-die, and use a regular Lee die and an FCD to see if makes a difference. I've got some 200 gr BBI bullets on order, to just to see if they leave any more deposits in the barrel. Anyone have a suggestion?? I thought posting here would give me a little more "focused" feedback, since I'm wondering about this combo only as it pertains to the .40 Tanfo Limited..

  16. I have a certain hate for race holsters, so I run a Bladetech DOH. Safe and secure....and you don't have to lock and unlock it.

For those who have the Tanfoglio Limited, if you also shoot IPSC, have you tried the Speedsec 5 holster and what do you think of it?

I've been using my old CR Speed holster that was for my CZ Tactical Sport, after alot of modifications. But I've had to use almost all the spacers that came with the holster because the trigger guard on the Limited is so narrow, and now the gun doesn't sit straight in the holster (because all the spacers fit on one side only) and often hangs up when I draw.

I'm considering the Speedsec 5 because Henning recommends it, (what more do I need right?). My concern is that I have seen other styles of this holster, with no muzzle support, and some seem to allow the gun to flop around quite a bit. Another one mentioned having to drill the gun, :surprise: .

I'd apprieciate any input/personal experiences with this holster. How sturdy is it, does the gun come out clean or drag a bit, how firm is the hold on the gun when locked? Any other info or recommendations would be very helpful.

    Thanks guys,

    Dan

  17. Looks like a large frame Limited. You'll probably want to run 10mm mags in it, if you are reloading. The standard black plastic base mags won't work because of the mag well (perhaps if you take a dremel tool to them they might work for emergency, but would be hard to seat). The mags need the aluminum base plates, or even better, the Henning made pads that enable 21 rounds in the mag.
