  1. Tough to find small frame Tanfoglio slides these days...at least in the US.

I have an old Springfield P9 9 x 21 open gun that has been setting around for the last 10 or so years. I want to use it for steel challenge type shooting but want it in 9mm. I want no comp or optics anymore. What is the longest slide available to fit one of these P9 frames. Is there a custom 6” slide for these things?

  2. I think the older style frame works better for those with longer fingers. It seems to me the differences in the frames make the grip circumference smaller on the "beavertail" frames. I have no problems shooting well with either style, but really do not care for the thin aluminum grips plus "beavertail" frame....

Isn't the mag release different on the two frames?

  3. The new style full size mags will work in your gun, it'll just stick out the bottom. I actually run the old style 15 round 10mm mags in my .40 Limited and have had no issues. I load my .40 at 1.19in. with 180gr.TC Bayou Bullets.

You should make sure the feed lips are within spec (the measurements are in a thread on here, somewhere), the compact 10mm probably needs a heavier recoil spring, too.

  4. The polygonal rifling in my Tanfo Limited tolerates them extremely well..there's almost nothing in the barrel.

Quick warning. The TS has polygonal rifling which generally do not like lead bullets. The barrel leads very, very quickly. Not sure what Bayou has to say about it.

  5. Here are some answers...

Hennings post about S*i and Tanfos...

I've been shooting production for quite a while now and am thinking of getting into limited. I couldn't find any info using search. I am hoping for opinions regarding the competitive capabilities of the witness limited vs the sti's. I am trying to take into account tunability, reliability, ease of maintenance, price, availability of factory and aftermarket parts along with the general accuracy, recoil control and general application in limited.

  6. Do not chop off serial #.

    Here's a pic of one....

    IMG_2120.jpg

I'm thinking of chopping the frame right before the KS on the right side of the frame. Is there any legal issues of chopping it off after the serial number on the frame? Wish there were more pics online of the chopped TS frame.

  7. I would say there is a chance that it is too big for your gun.

My Henning slide pin came in today and after putting it in the gun my slide is locking back on it and I have to force it forward. You can feel it catching somewhere. This is on an older small frame gun. Should I need to fit it somehow? I'll call Henning tomorrow but thought some of you may know.

    Thanks

  8. Sounds like a step down to me! If it feels front heavy, just chop off the frame like a Czechmate.

With the 5.25 out and the XDm getting accessorized, I've been thinking of picking one up and bolting some bits to it. I currently shoot a CZ TS which is pretty much bone stock except for thin aluminum grips and an aluminum magwell. I love the trigger on my TS and the gun is pretty well balanced except that it is kind of a heavy piece. I will definitely be keeping the CZ TS even if I purchase a XDm.

My biggest problem is I can't fire the XDm before I buy it. We have no rental ranges around here and for the matter no indoor ranges either :(

I know the 5.25 XDm will be a good bit lighter than my TS and the trigger probably not quite as good. I've owned a couple of the original XD's but that was WAY before I got into shooting competition.

Have any of you in this forum shot a CZ before switching to a XDm? Or do you have both and could tell me your pros and cons?

    Thanks much.

  9. .....for a little over $500, you could get a Tanfoglio Match in .40. Mine works and is superbly accurate and reliable. DOuble that and you can get a CZ TS or Tanfo Limited.

I want to put together a pistol for shooting Limited. I live in NJ, so we have a 15 round mag limit. I am also looking for something in the mid price range. My plan is to accessorize it a little bit at a time. I don't know what caliber I want to shoot as of yet. I do have an XD tactical .45. However it costs a pretty penny to keep it fed. Yes I do reload. It also seems that there aren't many accessoires for the XD in .45.

I have been leaning towards .40 cal because it offers a little more mag capacity then a .45 and the brass and bullets are a bit cheaper as well.

Another requirement I have is reliability. This is why I shy away from the race guns.

So far I have been thinking of another XD or a Glock.

If I could pick up a decent 2011 for 150 to 200 over a Glock or XD I would do it. From what I have read the best triggers are the 1911/2011 platform.

Babaganoosh, I believe almost everybody who shoots Limited is shooting a .40 - for exactly the reasons you've mentioned.

Be aware that loading .40 to major (168 - 172 pf) is a little more complex than loading 9mm or .45, especially

if you go with heavier bullets and faster powders.

Sounds like you don't like the XD due to lack of accessories, which leaves a Glock as an excellent choice for Limited.

I would think it would be cheaper to shoot your XD .45 than purchase a new XD .40, though, wouldn't it? See if you like it.

Race guns are reliable - but they are very expensive (compared to a Glock or an XD).

Don't believe you'll ever find a 2011 platform (the 1911 isn't for Limited - but for Single Stack) for a few hundred

    dollars more than a Glock.

If you're trying to save money (aren't we all) and just starting out - I'd shoot the .45 XD for a season and see where

the whole thing goes for you - you might want to do something else next year.

    Good luck,

    Jack

  10. I've had ZERO problems with my mags, either stock or with the Grams springs and followers, that wasn't due to my own reloading mistakes. 100% reliability as far as parts go. I'm about to refinish my slide for kicks...will post pics later this week.

You'll want to talk to Henning about the new Mecgar mags and best load length for proper function. I've always run the 10MM mags with ammot loaded to 1.20" and they have been tempermental to tune but the new mags should cure that.. As usual, mags are pricey but no more than a 2011 platform.

  11. A lighter hammer spring, an extended firing pin, and a bit of polishing under the notoriously poorly finished trigger bar underside can achieve good results. Mine's at 2 and 3/8 lb with just those mods. For a full-on awesome trigger, you could install an EGW hammer and sear along with Henning's tunable trigger system. I'm not having any issues with mine as it is, but may upgrade in the future. I'm getting 21 rnds in my mag with the Grams spring and followers, running old style 10mm mags, and loading at 1.185 in. OAL. Care must be taken in loading though, or the mags will not feed properly. I use an EGW undersize die and never had a problem and have recently started to push-through size my .40 brass for extra peace of mind. There are some new style Mec-Gar mags out, though, and I'm not sure exactly how they are stacking up in .40 and there are some threads about them in the forums.

The model is just called the .40 "Limited". Our options are fewer than what other countries can choose from when it comes to Tanfoglios.

The CZ Tactical Sport is also a great gun out of the box with lots of upgrades available.

That gun is awesome. How are the stock triggers? What model do I need to buy? How many rounds can you fit in your mags? I've always shot 2011's and mostly Brazos guns but want to try something different. Plus, I don't want to drop $5k again.

  12. Just buy one and run it stock for a while.....the gun won't hold you back. You will need some Henning basepads and Grams spring/followers for a couple of mags, though.

You may want some Henning aluminum grips, extended firing pin, and trigger system later, but there isn't much else that the gun really needs. The slide is light enough already. I do like a thin front fiber optic sight on my Tanfos. Dawson and Henning make one...

Getting back into shooting and thinking of trying something different than a 2011. What options should I look at and what are the pros and cons vs. A 2011

My limited....but I did have some slide cuts done later, purely for cosmetic reasons...

  13. THose round top style slides have been known to crack, but usually the 10mm....

Send it back to EAA, or buy a "Match" slide/barrel for your gun as they are sturdier.

...................I have heard of cracked Tanfoglio slides before, but never anything like this. Have you contacted Tanfoglio? I think you should! If they had a bad batch you might save someone’s scull.

It is definitely covered by warranty!

  14. I've been very happy with my 180 gr. 40s I got. They run very clean with Solo 1000 with none of the ridiculous gunked up barrels and horrendous cleaning trouble I had with the Precision black bullets...

Just ordered some Bayou Bullets to try out yesterday. If the product is half as good as his personality, I may never buy any other brand after this. Great guy to talk to!
