  1. Looks like the numbers are growing nicely. Anyone who misses this match will miss a great one. I endeavor to be competitive in both Revolver and Single Stack Divisions. The stages will challenge/test my skills, mind, and other capabilities I am sure. The more people that compete, the more I can hide behind should things not go well.
  2. Keep the applications coming people! I enjoy meeting new people, and shooting with them for a great cause! The more the merrier! Trying my hand at Single Stack Division in addition to Revolver Division, so I need to see more single stack competitors so that I can learn to shoot it better by watching them.
  3. I am too stubborn to give up my 6 shot revolver, and will muster on through whatever stages happen to stand in front of me. Bring them on I say! I will definitely have sufficiently full days of shooting both revolver and single stack. I had mixed feelings about the match being opened up to more divisions, but then I realized how many shooters had not had the opportunity in the past to compete in this fine match (with their chosen division recognized in it) and felt the more the merrier! Let's make this match one that people talk about all year and wait with baited breath to sign up to shoot it again next year!
  4. I sympathize with the struggle, and I am shooting revolver one day then single stack the other. Shooting a 6-shot revolver on a stage that requires in excess of 32 rounds (one 34, 40, and 44 if I recall correctly), is daunting to say the least. I'll be shooting major in both Revolver and Single Stack Division, and look forward to competing against you sir! Stage 4 is tricky as it has 25 targets and only requires one shot per target. Forgetting and shooting two per target could make for a long stage and running out of ammunition before the end!
  5. So if I enter to shoot two guns (one on each day) do I get two entries in the raffle for the M1a? I intend to buy extra tickets, but I am curious.
  6. Actually level I & II matches can exceed the 32 rounds required, stage designers usually don't do it though. I had to look this up in the USPSA rules myself when I first saw the rounds required. In the USPSA rulebook under Types of Courses (1.2.1.3), it shows that long courses in level III or higher matches must not require more than 32 rounds to complete.
  7. Towboat, Just in case it will help you, my squadding information I found in my junk mail folder. Maybe you might find the information you seek there.
  8. Maybe I am just too stubborn for my own good. I have remained with using a 6-stot revolver. I will however be adding single stack to my repertoire, and shooting the Memphis Charity Challenge for score with both in the coming months.
  9. I am really looking forward to the opportunity to shoot the match with Revolver one day and Single Stack the next.
  10. Squadded and looking forward to the Match with both Revolver and Single Stack.
  11. Yeah, I agree that people do not want to look bad when they shoot revolver. It is a much simpler explanation that what I posted. LOL!
  12. The common hurdle that I have noticed that people mention dissuading them from shooting revolver is the number of reloads commonly necessary. Even with the 8 shot revolvers allowed in USPSA currently, the number of reloads necessary remains considerable for many. No real way of changing that, as either a shooter is willing to deal with that or they are not. The closest division capacity wise is Single Stack, but the process of reloading is quite different from reloading a revolver. In fact reloading every division except for revolver uses practically the same type motor skills. Many people just want to focus on shooting, and reloading every 6-8 shots gets them out of their "groove" (except single stack shooters of course). I have never met a frequent Revolver Division shooter who did not love shooting revolvers. As many have posted, it is hard to get people to try and stick with shooting revolver for an extended period of time. In addition thinking that a state, sectional, or area match might not recognize officially Revolver Division leads some to shoot other divisions that are commonly recognized. It commonly takes a match Such as the Memphis Charity Challenge or Revolver Nationals to bring out more than 5-10 revolver shooters. I think that it comes down to getting people to like or love revolver enough to shoot it in competition on a regular basis. Just my opinion...
  13. Touche' Just competed in the PowerAde State Games of NC, and I earned the Veteran (40+) category Epee silver medal. This qualifies me for the 2017 State Games Of America that will be held in Grand Rapids MI. I decided to wear the AREA 6 USPSA match shirt when I went to the podium to receive my medal. The medal happened to color coordinate with the shirt.
  14. I believe that the issue is that with the inclusion of the 8 shot revolver, a good number of the regular 6 shot revolver shooters who did or do not wish to change to the higher capacity gun became disheartened and moved to other divisions. I am stubborn and choose to remain with a 6 shot (loaded by speed loader) revolver, and although the numbers are not many I choose to stick with shooting revolver at the USPSA matches I compete in. The 2016 Area 6 was supposed to have 12 revolver shooters in it, and with the range of classifications only the top overall finisher received an award. I don't think one revolver shooter made the match at all, and two more did not make minor power factor (so they do not show up on the final results). I still enjoyed myself and the match was great. Those who enjoy shooting revolver are considerably outnumbered by those who enjoy the other divisions. Formerly regular revolver shooters choosing to shoot other division in order to face more competition further reduce the numbers of revolver shooters in the results in matches across the nation. I find it a bit insulting to the Revolver Division that the stand alone Nationals have been held on Mother's Day weekend every year it has been held, but Carry Optics gets its own Nationals weekend (the first year it exists) on no major holiday. Against my better judgment I shot the 2013 Revolver Nationals for the purpose of showing support for the stand alone match, and in order to check off that I had competed in one. I cannot bring myself to spend another Mother's Day weekend doing it again. Spending time with my mother is more important by far, and I am certain by other comments I have read and heard from other revolver shooters that they feel similarly about the Nationals being on that weekend.
  15. Unless you are adverse to them, molded earplugs should provide adequate protection and allow for a cowboy hat comforably to be worn. That is what I used to do shooting in SASS.
  16. I shoot revolver primarily, and even use it in the local 3gun matches that I participate in. My USPSA, IDPA, and Steel Challenge revolver is a Ruger Alaskan loaded with 45 Colt. My 3gun revolver is a S&W 625. I have been participating in shooting sports since 2005 and with the exception of 1 IDPA match using a Beretta 92D, I have used a revolver. I have yet to burn out, but that is because of several factors. First of all I don't shoot as many matches as I would imagine several of you do (that have felt burn out), and that is due to shooting sports being my secondary hobby. I was a collegiate varsity athlete back in the late eighties in the sport of fencing, and I primarily compete in those matches. After a decade off after college I came back to the sport in December of 1999. From 2000 through 2015 I have qualified for 15 of the 16 US Fencing Nationals, and competed in 13 of them (I did not qualify in 2008, and could not make the trip in 2014). I qualified for the US Fencing Nationals This year (qualifying my 16th time )and will be competing in two events (I usually qualify and compete in 2-4 events). Sorry for drifting from the core question.... Anyway I compete in sport shooting in addition when I have the time. I have competed in local, a number of state/sectional matches, Area 6 this year, and Revolver Nationals once. The variety of activity with both fencing and shooting sports keeps me from getting burned out on either. I am considering shooting Revolver and Single Stack at the Memphis Charity Challenge this coming October, but only because I am able to compete in both for score on different days. I currently hold to using a 6 shot revolver, and have no interest in obtaining an 8 shot revolver. That may change, but I don't think anytime soon. It is a bit disheartening to see the small contingent of revolver shooters at most matches, but I choose to keep shooting revolver in matches no matter the number of fellow revolver shooters.
  17. Looking like I will be shooting revolver & single stack for score. Waiting for my registration application to go through. Now to put away some funds for the auctions, and reserve some space in my vehicle in case I win something in one of them.
  18. I am a right handed, left eye dominant revolver shooter...... Just my being in most squads confounds/amuses some people in my squad. I tend to shoot stages like a left handed shooter (Tracking my sights to the left), and the additional reloads pretty much means that I break down stages unlike auto shooters. I even confuse lefty shooters sometimes. I have no time to waste doing a "ghost walk through" of a stage hoping to confuse other shooters......... Most ignore what I am doing (unless our paths cross during the walkthrough, or they need to know when the revolver shooter is shooting the stage because they need to know when they can take a quick nap ).
  19. Still deciding if I am going to shoot both single stack and revolver, or just revolver. Once I make that decision I will be sending in my application. It will be good to get back to Memphis and shoot the match again.
  20. Being on Mother's Day weekend is a problem for me. The low (below 20) majority round count stages do not encourage my interest either. Two to four medium and two long course stages in the mix out of 14 stages would not hurt. The Mother's Day weekend schedule is the big issue for me though. I cannot see me choosing the match over my family. I competed in 2013 figuring that it was scheduled the only time that was available. Somehow Carry Optics got its own date away from the holiday weekend, so my theory about scheduling does not seem to be true.
  21. I look forward to shooting this match and at the range that it will be held at. Looks like I will be working the match also, which should be enjoyable also.
  22. While I see the reasonable concern about this, I would hope that it would not be the case this year. I am just eager to see the stages for this year and try to wrap my head around what I am going to be dealing with. It sounded to me from what was said on the facebook page that the stages would be released soon after they were approved by the powers that be.
  23. Since the match book will not be printed for distribution I was hoping that they would be posted as soon as the approval of the stages were received. I am eager to see the basic idea of the stages and get an idea how challenging that they will be. Being my first time shooting an area match, I am excited to participate in it. I hope that I did not choose poorly by shooting the match in one day, instead of splitting it between two. I'll be in squad 21 on Friday, and look forward to being on a great squad of shooters (most of whom I have never met ).
