  1. By the skin of my teeth... haha Time to look for the Race to Master Class thread... Also time to make sure my match % reflects my class %... Pretty stoked to make it to A though.
  2. Thanks! I will go google those now. The primary reason for a 9mm is so that I have 2 pistols in case the primary one I am building goes down. I I already have mags in 9mm and I am trying to focus my shooting/training back to shooting A's after getting pretty sloppy shooting 3 Gun. I think I will do that better with 9mms than with 40s. In addition, I am already shooting Production, so I think it will be less of a jump into Single Stack. I have only shot SS at Steel Challenge so far, but once I make A in Production this year, I plan on moving over to getting A Classification in Single Stack. While doing that, I want to start building a Limited gun again to move to next.
  3. Camera phone picture to start. This is the slide I am going to use. It's a prize table pick up from Caspian Arms. Sat down with Hayes Guns and starting putting the parts list together. Caspian Frame is getting ordered first thing after xmas. Pretty stoked on this. The pistol above is a SA RO in 9mm I am going to be upgrading some as I go. Most of that I am going to try to learn to fit and do on my own for the knowledge and practice.
  4. Alright, well looks like I am starting my build right after Xmas. I will post progress in this thread and info as I go. Thanks for all the info guys. Pretty stoked about this. I am hoping to have the pistol finished about the time I make A class for Production. Moving from Production to SS shouldn't be a huge jump either.
  5. Pretty stoked to see where I am in 3 days....
  6. Any reason you're going for the CF grips and not just getting some of the composite VZ grips? Very cool. I'd definitely like to see more shots of the pistol.
  7. From the article he linked to "Trijicon RMR04 – Dual Illuminated 7 MOA Amber Dot." I use the same sight on my M&P CORE but I'm using the 12.9 MOA dot which is really too big but it works great for steel challenge which is my primary use for it. Mine works well in all lighting conditions. Yep 7 MOA Amber dot. I like it a lot, I think it would work well for USPSA. That beings said, I think for strictly USPSA shooting, a Cmore or something that you can adjust the dot works better. So far (3-4 weeks of time with the gun), The only problem I have run into outdoors shooting was not related to the dot not being visible, but bloom. In bright conditions, the 7MOA dot looks more like a 10-12 MOA dot, which I personally think is too large for smaller plates and some tight shots. I got some time today running it on a plate rack and it was great. I used some 124 soft ammo and was able to blaze pretty well considering temps and went. I also didn't have issues shooting 6" plates at 40ish yards. I could do that with my G34, but it takes a little more focus. This was relatively easy. For close in shooting, irons still seem to be faster, but this shines on distance. I still only have a few hundred rounds through the gun as is right now, but I am really enjoying the versatility. I will get creamed in Open Div, but I am going to shoot it at the next Steel Challenge match assuming I get a holster set up before then. I zeroed it today at 50 yards and that seems to be working alright so far.
  8. Hey fellas, seems like RMR Glocks come up on a pretty regular basis around here and other forums, so I thought I would share a project I just started. Here's a write-up I did for TGR: Glock 19 RMR Project I've been shooting Glocks for a long time and this is always something I wanted to try. I haven't decide what I am going to do for a trigger yet, but I'm all ears... I'd like to try a Zev, but I have been very pleased with the trigger job I did for my Glock 34s, which is just a Zev spring kit and 3.5 connect polished heavily. For the guys shooting open, what distance are you zeroing your dot? I hear 25 and 50, but I was wondering if 50 had much POI POA difference for close targets. I am also curious if anyone else who has tuned their recoil system has run the pistol suppressed much to see if it effects feeding. In the next month or so, I hope to have some really detailed pictures of the slide work for yall and maybe a few videos shooting it suppressed and unsuppressed at a Steel Challenge match or something. I don't have a comp that would fit this threading, but I think I still have a CR Speed Glock holster laying around I could use.
  9. I look at it as cost. As mentioned, it's a lot easier to just get an identical gun approved for a switch by the MD than it is to monkey with trying to fix something. If I take 3 days off from work, pay a match fee, travel and want to meet goals - a second pistol isn't that big of a deal. I am just getting back into shooting USPSA and have already started working up a second G34 to match my main Production pistol. IF money is tight, just get some parts. That being said. In 14 years of shooting USPSA, mostly with glocks, I have only had a slide lock spring break in the middle of a match. I electrical taped it down and finished the match (college student at the time with 1 pistol.)
  10. Can we get the specs? I have lots of spare parts laying down and have been thinking about doing this.
  11. With approximately 100,000 rounds through Gen 4 Glocks with ZERO ISSUES I think they are the best Glocks ever made. I'm with this guy. I have 2 Gen4 G34s I run for Production and 3Gun and I have done trigger work, sights and they run great. Going to be respringing them after xmas.
  12. Awesome, thanks for the info! I am really getting stoked about this project. I don't know how I am going to hold off till after Xmas at this rate.
  13. The EGW magwell looks great and mates up very well. Did it take much to get it all to fit up correctly?
  14. I spent some time shooting plate racks on the 9mm. Excellent handling pistol. Never seen one in 40 though. Probably a good choice for a DoAll pistol assuming its legal for all those classes.
  15. I may have missed it, but what comp and barrel are you using? I always wanted to build up a 1911 comp'd like the Punisher uses in a lot of his comics and the movie with Travolta. I know, lame, but I have purpose built guns for competition and I have guns for fun. I'd like to do a matching set for fun and enjoyment. Not sure I have the brass ones to throw it all on a dremel table like you though! This is a cool project.
  16. That's odd I know you were on the list already so I will have to double check why you didn't show up. Thanks! This is a cool thread, glad to be in it. Appreciate your help. ETA - looks like I might have snagged a few decent classifiers this weekend.
  17. Can I get added to the list pls? TY47760 Sitting at 65% now, hope after some practice and a classifier match Sunday I can inch closer.
  18. I can just get tossed and replaced with a standard MSH though right?
  19. Yeah, I noticed with mine that the rear sight notch is not cut straight on one side. Now that I ahve seen it I can't unsee it and it's driving me crazy. Does the ILS MSH not just slide out like a regular one? I haven't messed with it at all yet. Just shot the pistol a few times at practice and then a local Steel Challenge match.
  20. I figured with tri-topping and deep front/rear serrations that would help shave some weight from the get go. I'd like to LPI the top too, though I am sure the weight with that is pretty minimum. VZ grips offers a wood grip similar to the other VZ grips I have and really like, so that should help too. Being 9mm, obviously the barrel is going to be heavy, so making up that weight is a concern. Not sure how much extra cost turning the barrel down would cost. If you get yours built before mine, post up the progress! I am still getting my Springfield RO in 9mm up and running. It's a good pistol out of the box and I had a good first match with it, but it still needs work. So I am just gathering parts for the custom build right now while I get this Springer up and running how I want it.
  21. Yeah, I think wood grips, GI guide rod and some slide work sounds like it will get me under weight. I always prefer adjustable sights so I can sight my pistol in to my ammo, but was curious if there was any weight difference. I plan on using an Smith/Alexander Magwell vs a Dawson just so my mags I have right now will work and I don't have to get another set of mags. Plus being able to strip the mag like you mentioned is always important, especially when you don't have much real estate to grab onto like a single stack mag.
  22. I have a Caspian slide that isn't cut for sights yet I had planned on using is why I ask. I have a Springfield RO in 9mm that is cut with a Bomar, but the Novak style replacement I have seen for it is so large I can't imagine it saves any. Idunno how much sights vs steel from slide weight though. Sights are pretty light.
  23. Would a Bomar rear be any weight savings over a Novak?
  24. If someone doesn't try this soon, my suppressed G22 might turn into a sight track glock 22..... I'd also really like to try this on a G17 for 3Gun. This isn't helping me in quitting my habit of buying Glocks for no apparent reason.
