  1. Not sure I understand the question. It's a pistol/rifle match and we will have a small amount of shotgun thrown in; however, the shotgun and ammo for it will be provided. Hope that helps, if not, send me a message and I will see if I can better answer your question.
  2. Great!! Look forward to having you. We've been really pleased at the response so far. Also seem to be getting several cops in that haven't shot action shooting before and want to make the jump from Bullseye and High Power. Be sure to share it if you don't mind. The Houston area LEs are coming out in force.
  3. The match is half full, just a heads up if anyone on board is waiting to register.

  5. Ended up going with the Impact Weapons mount. I'll let you know when it gets here. Called them and spoke to them on the phone a bit. Not only did they make sure I ordered the right one for my rail, they got me free shipping. So pretty pleased. Thanks for all the help guys.
  6. Thanks Stein, that's something I had looked at, but have not been sold on yet. The samson insert is more along the lines of what I was thinking. I think I saw a PRI one similar also on someone's troy hand guards. Thanks guys.
  7. Hey guys, I have a work rifle set up with a Troy Vtac Alpha Rail and am looking to set up/install a QD sling attachment that is not the long section of rail that comes with the handguards. While working the FB3G, I saw several different set ups; however, after the beat down of running up and down a hill all day, I can't for the life of me remember what folks were using. Possible a PRI QD sling attachment? Any suggestions or if anyone can show/tell me what they are running that would be a great help. I need to be able to run a sling, preferably closer to the barrel nut, but do not want to deal with the long rail that comes with the hand guard.
  8. any reason not to get a regular Nova over the super nova? Looks to be about 150 cheaper and the only difference I can see is that you can't throw a pistol grip stock on or swap it out? Locally I can find the Nova for 429. The Super Nova looks to be 579 and it has to be ordered, not a lot on the shelves....
  9. thank you. I think I am going to break down and buy this gun. I am weakest with the shotgun and due to that, have not been too interested or excited about buying shotgun stuff. Rifle stuff, pistol things SURE! When I hear the word shotgun, I have a wave of shame wash over me...
  10. Bought my Supernova back in December? Maybe November? About $425 for the 24" vent rib version. $80 for the Nordic Components +4 tube, nut, and magazine spring set. I splurged and did $19 for the teflon coated NC follower as well. For the moment, I'm done fussing with it. But, I'm considering changing the front fiber optic factory sight. Doesn't seem very bright in some situations. It's wonderful how the lifter gets out of your way and STAYS out of your way when loading. Genius!! So, I'm slightly north of $525 (after shipping and taxes) for a wonderful pump gun. Others get the Nova instead. But, I wanted the ComforTech stock with the option of adding a pistol grip stock later. -- Mike Who are you getting that package from (nordic components)? I looked on midway and they seem to be out of stock on a lot of those parts. I shoot Limited Tac division and have really been looking at this shotty. I have been borrowing FNs and other guns and have not really been impressed, especially for the price.
  11. any idea on what the cost would be to get a super nova and set it up for 3 gun?
  12. Awesome, thanks for all the fast replies guys, that is exactly what I was hoping to hear. Thank you very much. I am very excited about getting some matches under my belt again and even more excited about putting some more range time in with my work equip. I am still tossing around if I want to wear my vest or not. Since it isn't 110 here right now, I am leaning to a yes so that I don't have to readjust my chest rig, but I don't want to look like a tool either. . . Thank you again for the fast response.
  13. I am trying to get to shoot some 3 guns and need some help getting set up with the right equipment. There have been a lot of advances since I shot my last 3 gun and was hoping someone could steer me to some websites. I am a LEO and want to use my duty belt and gear for competition to keep me well practiced and same some $$$. Right now, for work, I carry the belt and chest rig in the following set up: I have a 6 round side saddle and 7+1 in the tube, and 12 rounds on the chest rig. I figured with a 6 round shot shell caddy I would be pretty well set for ammo. I thought if I placed the caddy where the metal radio holder is (between the flashlight and the OC spray), I could off set some weight difference where the radio would typically hang and have 6 more rounds available, putting 32 shells on me. The catch is that I can remove the radio clip, which I would do, without stripping my belt. I want a caddy that I can place in the radio clip's place without stripping my belt. Most of the pictures I have found online did not show the mounting hardware and just the caddy portion. Does anyone know of a caddy that holds 6 rounds and does not require the belt to be looped through the caddy? I like the Mark Otto caddy, but have 0 experience with any and am not sure if that caddy would be viable. $ is as always tight and I want to avoid some trial and error if I can. Thanks for any insight.
  14. The answer is more of a "not exactly". Yes, 892fps makes Major (165PF), but you need to be well over that in case you go to a match where they chrono. In other words, you want to have an average more like 930-940fps (everyone wants a slightly different buffer) to give you a buffer since all chronos are different, and conditions always vary. To make it more complicated, Solo 1K gives higher velocity with lower temps, and lower velocity with higher temps (reverse temperature sensitivity). So, if you work up a load and chrono it a 80*F, and it's making only 165PF, then go to a match where it's 95*F when they chrono, you're probably going to go Minor, which will cost you a lot of points. R, I am sure this isn't the case, but from what I chrono'd, it looks like velocity is linear. That isn't the case is it? It seemed that .2 grns netted 20 fps pretty much across the board. I still need to do a bit of work and a lot more chrono'ing to feel comfortable for this load; however, I just wanted to check in a make sure I wasn't going to see a sharp spike in velocity at an unknown point. Life would be much simpler if I knew that adding .02 grains would end up going to a predictable rise of 20 fps. that would put my 4.2 grns at about 940fps.
  15. Thanks for all the responses guys. At 4.0 grns I didn't see any pressure signs and with as bad as I am about sloshing powder when loading in a hurry, I think I will go ahead and try 3.9 or stick with 4.0. Trying to decide if I should bother pulling 45 bullets for the 4.2,4.4,4.8 I worked up or just throw them away . . . Thanks again for all the responses.
  16. I have now used Solo in 9mm, 38 spl and 40. I am pleased with how it shoots for all these calibers. The 38spl I am using casted bullets and the smoke isn't nearly what I thought it was going to be. I was just amazed when I started chronoing the 40 cal and was already hitting the higher velocities with such a small amount of powder. I thought maybe I had a chrono issue until I ran a few known rounds through the chrono.
  17. If the bullet I am using is 185 grn, I thought the fps I needed to make major would be 892. Can someone give me a yah or nah on that? I am shooting it out of a LWD threaded barrel, which I believe is a 1/2 longer than the stock barrels. I like both powders for being clean burning. The combination of the solo and the precision moly coated bullet seems to be cleaner and less smokey than the VV320N and the same bullet.
  18. ruger89- What is the lot number and date on the bottom of your jug of Solo, and when/where did you buy it? I have some from lot 1624, dated 02/10/09, which is faster and softer than than the same grain load of n320. I love that Solo, but I understand that batches of Solo vary, and that some more recent lots run a bit slower (needing from .3 to .7 grains more) than the batch I have. I would love to find some more of the 1624 lot, or equally fast, which sounds like what you have. Cheers. -br 02/02/10 1930
  19. thanks for the reply. I was a little surprised to be hitting the velocities I was so soon. Good to get some experience checking in. Thank you.
  20. Switching over to Solo 1000 for 40 and trying to get to where I don't need so many powders. Love this powder so far, went to chrono some 40 loads today I worked up, starting at 3.6 grns thru 4.8 grns, OAL 1 9/64ths with a precision 185 grn RFN bullet. I averaged the following: 3.6 grns - 876 fps 3.8 grns - 893 fps 4.0 grns - 911.5 fps. To contrast, the VV320N that I was loading minor for my wife to practice with was showing: 3.6 grns - 837 fps, with all other factors the same. Is this similar to what everyone else is getting? I guess I am just surprised at the lack of powder needed. I stopped shooting after 4.0 grns because I did not want to push my glock at any higher a charge. I have an el cheapo chrono, but it seemed to be pretty consistent in its read out and I did a 15 shot sample per powder weight. Seems like 3.9 might be the magic number; however, I was not able to find too many loads online with Solo 1000 and 40cal. Shot very well, accurate and the recoil felt softer than the same powder charge on the VV powder.
  21. thanks, I found their sight, but not that link for some reason. great on getting some start loads.
  22. I am having a hard time finding much load data for solo 1000 and 38spl. The two bullets I am going to be loading are 148grn WC and 150grn RN lead. I know that the WC will need a lower starting charge since there is less case room and more surface area in contact with the case; however, if anyone could give me some good start points it would be appreciated. Not loading anything for competition yet, just fun. Also, if I am missing the solo 100 38spl load chart chart or similar data with my weak google skills, I would appreciate someone pointing me in the right direction.
