  1. Another incident: Some how long range shooting comes up.... the gun shop person starts telling me all about a "Sniper" match he had shot and won. I, being interested in such things, go and shoot the match and won it a few years in a row. Strangely the people running the match could remember everyone who had ever placed well yet never heard of this guy. hmmm.......
  2. This stuff is mind numbing........ Once freshly out of the Marine Corps I go into the local gun shop after a 4 year hiatus. I ask to see a Leupold scope and the person behind the counter tells me I don't want it because it has a mil dot reticle & decides its time to explain how complex and confusing using one is. I let them finish explaining how mere mortals are not capable of using such a scope because they are for "snipers". Once they felt confident I understood I let them know I had just gotten out of the Marine Corps where I served in a scout/sniper platoon. I was polite as were they and they did get my business but, I was never offered unsolicited advise again
  3. I would think guy could fix that with a follower
  4. I wasn't planning on replying to this thread, to keep the peace, as it were, but didn't want to ignore your reply. I didn't add the reasons as it would have been pretty major thread drift as it's not specific to Sigs or the All Around (or any other gun really). If you want to start another thread wherever that might fit, I'd be glad to share my thoughts. Edit to add: On topic, I'd be very interested to hear what the best accuracy folks have seen with their All Around, but only if it was no BS, measured groups, no flyers discounted, no "best three of five" etc. I know they're an accurate gun, but hard numbers are always nice. Agreed Mr. Bart.
  5. I have a large Frankford and am happy with it, but rumor has it the big Dillon is pretty good (not sure where I heard that though).
  6. Going off the previous claim of someone getting 1.5" at 50yds (which I don't believe for a number of reasons) G MAN, What are those reasons?
  7. in addition to safety spectacles I recently started wearing a cup
  8. Try loading shorter and shorter untill you can take a loaded round and (while fully seated in your chamber) spin it by hand. Then you will know it is not contacting your riflings
  9. I believe you need what is referred to as having your leads cut
  10. the profile of the lead bullet may be contacting the rifling where the jacketed profile was not.
  11. Hinck, Are you holding an AK with teddy bears in the background?
  12. http://www.midwayusa.com/viewProduct/?productNumber=623472 there is stuff out there, you will just have to determine what is legal for your purpose. You are probably restricted to 140mm tubes in most things you will shoot. -Ruf
  13. You might look to see if there are aftermarket spring/follower kits &/or basepads.
  14. If it has a detent drilled into it, try buffing some of that off to get the hole a little shallower.
  15. yeah, it sounds provacative.... I almost voted that way
  16. ZHunter- It was actually for Bart, Steve & Nick. The sassy spice part keeps some humor in things. I feel like I just walked in on a SH/WH party uninvited! We should start a club we could be plank members Ruf & Zs "shooters who dont love & practice constantly SHO/WHO
  17. Dear Sassy Spice, The title of this thread is " Do you enjoy WH/SH shooting? "I didn't state "I dont like it because I suck at it", nor did I mention not practicing it. I actually practiced it about an hour today. It is useful. However, I'd rather shoot with both hands.
  18. I do not disagree that SH/WH shooting is an important skill to have in life. USPSA does develop skills but, my impression is matches are a test of skills not a "training program".
  19. I think it goes aginst the free style, solve the stage or "problem" in your own way philosophy. I just shot the Fall Classic and there was a shot I felt was beneficial to take strong hand only so I did. Everyone else did not but they solved the stage their own way.
  20. I shot yesterday. The stages are great, pretty straight foreward, I really liked the match. Thank you for your hospitality Jim.
  21. It should not be an upfront concern inside of 1000. It is real but If you are shooting a static 600yd line zero @ 6, same for a grand. Spend your time with reading wind. If you can shoot well enough to notice "spin drift" between yardages you are very accomplished.

    Snake gun

I would agree that most snakes just want to get away from you, however, the bad ones (around here in Missouri) are very aggressive. I have experienced multiple snake "charges" and by the grace of the good Lord was able to draw and shoot in time. These werent situations where you stumbled on a snake, the snakes bolted from 20+ feet away which oughta be a safe distance. I have had at least 3 of those scenarios in the last 2 years and it would have been me/the boy or the dog had I not got effective fire on target. I'm sure I'd be fine getting bit knowing some basic first aid, however if your child gets bit it would be tough to deal with rapid spread of venom in a small (hard to calm) body. PS if bitten & still able, I would kill the snake to make myself feel better.
