I don't have any experience with the one from higher capacity, but have used the one I got from jim for several years without issue. Mine was built from 2 of the old style mags, jim also redid the basepad attachment system to use a dawson type pad which is nice. I'd be curious to see a top view of your comp.

This is the best mustard made by man
+1 for sure

Even if I weren't concerned about power factor from a rules perspective, from a practical perspective i'd still want those going faster if only so they'd have enough retained energy to activate flash targets.

Hmmm...
Remove iron sights, install rear slideracker, install scope, install mag well... done.
Might also call jim anglin for a big stick mag.
Changing safeties can be a challenge, as those are specific to the caspian highcap frame. Normal safties can be made to work but it takes some modification.

There shouldn't be an issue with getting a 9mm major gun with a hybrid barrel to work. When I first started shooting 9mm major I simply had my .38 super rebarreled. It had a 4 port rib style hybrid barrel and it worked/works fine. Whether it is optimal or not is another question but it certainly works.

I don't prefer it but I have known some ROs to go so far as to set their timers for delay/random and a lower limit of 2sec and an upper limit of 3.5 sec (just as you might do while practicing by yourself) to ensure a fair but un-predictable delay from standby to beep.

I was getting it from top brass/scharch manufacturing.

One of the local guys here has one. It seems to be study and well made.

Out of curiosity how large is the dot in your reticle? I have noticed I sometimes have a difficulty shooting groups smaller than the aiming point in low powered scopes. For instance in the meopta I am using right now say at 200 yards my group shot with the central dot on an 8" plate might be 4". At 300 yards using the fine tip of the first holdover mark the group might be the same size or smaller and the same deal at 400 yards. The rifle and ammo in question is sub moa with a target scope.
I have also seen the same thing as dyno with my 75gr load, it doesn't shoot that well at 100 yards but doesn't spread out at range as much as the 100 yard group would suggest.

If you can stomach the color, last I looked midway had the FDE version of the TAC 30 for like 270.

I have used Neil Keller (http://www.kustom-ballistics.com/services.php) who I think is in central IN? He has done auto work for me, but I have handled revolvers that he has worked on and I can't believe any of his work would be less than top notch.

Dang Sam, that is a heck of an offer. I wish I didn't have a match to run that saturday, or i'd be all over this.

I have heard HS6, AutoComp, IMR7625, Win248.....what"s your 9mm Major load, & if it's in a Glock even better! Thanks in advance, Andrew
BTW I'm torn on what comp, either Carver Major or SJC Major.
SP 2 in my opinion but as no one mentioned it I guess its not available in the US. Have tried several different powders but nothing comes close to SP 2. Its the flattest and softest shooting major powder I know and also the safest one in case of gas pressure. I used it first with my glock and now with my 2011.
SP2 is no longer avaliable in the US... much to the irritation of many of us.

Send amidon an email and ask.

If it turns out you have the metric threads talk to ed vandenberg at vandenberg custom, he makes a nice fal break.

Might consider putting a block under the casepro to raise its height so that the tube is the right length... That has worked well for me (my 650 shares a feeder with a casepro).

Not normally. For me the exception is if I need to start a stage at an intermediate power. Otherwise it is 1 or 4.

My best advice is to borrow and shoot as many different guns as you can, then if you find you really want something different watch the classifieds here and find something you like from a reputable smith. Then once you have shot that for a while and you decide what you really want, you should probably consider having something built. SV certainly builds very nice guns and I doubt that you'd be disappointed with one, but in my opinion there are several of the name smiths who would build you a gun that would serve you just as well with a shorter lead time.

If you decide to rebarrel i'd be glad to take it or the upper off your hands( assuming it is an colt sp1 upper).
It isnt optimal, but there isn't usually anything wrong with those barrels, the one in my sp1 will shoot good 52-55gr ammo into about 1.5" at 100 yards (scope on the carry handle) and a cheek piece. I don't love the a1 sights but if you zero them well (thinner front sight wouldn't hurt) and don't lean to hard on the forearm you might be pleasantly surprised at how well it shoots.

Kinda makes me glad I got that 40x while the cmp still had them.

Hmm, I only use the old style mags for my open gun... I haven't run into that.
You going to be at the section match in march?

What mag pouches other than the Safariland 771 work best with the old style Caspian mags?
I like the CR Speed mag pouches.

What guns do the top limited competitiors shoot?
in 1911-style Pistols

The other thing I might add (though it is a bit off topic) is to spend a bit of the money you were considering spending on a new gun on a competition class from a good trainer. I suspect that would probably help you get farther faster.
