Check the right side leading edge of the Barrel Chamber for mechanical interference with the extractor hook. That is usually the primary reason the extractor hook would snap off completely.

Yep... Either put some sharpie or some grease on the face of the barrel/chamber facing the front surface of the extractor and see if you have contact...

Are you using a red dot?

Try the green version - I find it's a bit blurrier than the red version, and hence why the 2moa dot seemed to be bigger 2moa. On the green version, the 8moa ring + 2moa dot do seem to merge into one for me. In the red version, I can clearly make out the ring and dot.

Yes I'm using the red version... The green seems interesting and I'll probaly put one on something eventually but I have too many years of brain training associated with using red dots on open guns to quickly make the change.

I have Sig Romeo 3 XL's on my 2 Bullesteros race guns and just installed 2 HS 507Comp on my HPS Open Master race guns. No issues switching from one platform to the other. The Sigs are very good and have excellent warranty, but HS are way more cost efficient and equally good (I only use the 2.5 dot and not the other radicals - they are to big and distracting for target focus). HS Warranty is not at same level as the Sigs.

I like the sigs and their warranty is great... Unfortunately I've had to use the warranty one too many times on the romeo max that was on my open gun.   For the last 5k rounds I've been using the HS and have been quite pleased with it.

I thought in the beginning I was going to want the 2MOA dot and the 8MOA ring since I've always shot a 6MOA or larger dot (since original CMores.) But I found the combination distracting (I was hoping they would merge at speed to an 8MOA dot but I kept noticing ring +dot.) Fortunately with the dot turned up to full brightness it is bright enough and blooms enough to work just fine for me.

  4. The one time I have seen this it was a case of powder contamination (guy had put a little lube on his powder measure in a bad place ...) but contamination in the case would also explain it. In his case the bullet was just started into the rifling (like a primer only squib) but there was powder all over inside the gun.

  5. A user on this forum Memphis Mechanic used to have a source for carbide throating reamers.

I haven't seen him on here in a while but if you can track him down he might have a suggestion on where he got his.

What caliber?  Short dots and sideways scope mounts are what made 9mm Open guns really viable by not blocking the ejection area.  If you don't like the sideways mount, that leaves short dots.

This.... I ran an open gun in 9 major with an upright cmore for many years.    It could be made to work with careful tuning of ejector and extractor particularly with careful selection of brass headstamp.  However when useful window sized mini red dots became available there was no reason to put a full sized cmore on a open pistol anymore.

I used the romeo3 max for several years and liked it other than having to send a couple of them back to sig for issues for the buttons stopping working or then blinking out under recoil after awhile. I have moved to the FTP alpha and the Holosun 507 comp as my current dots.

  7. They have been allowed at least since 1999 (that's as far back as I go) but I know when I took my cro class in the portion on stage design the instructor discouraged them due to the potential issues and difficulty of ROing them....

I know in the last 10 years they have become far more common.

I have the 2 and 3 port BE comps. I prefer the 3 port. My current setup is a middy with 3 port. My next build will be a full length with BE 3 port.

I'm just an A classified open shooter and prefer the softness of a full length rig.

I can tell you, I had a middy with an Atlas 2 port comp and that thing was harsh to shoot. The BE comps work MUCH better.

Yep middy with 2 barrel ports and a 3 port BE comp is an excellent combination... Particularly if you use something like shooters world major or AA7 that makes enough gas to run it.

Are there any say “already in the popular lexicon” exemptions to trademark law?

    For example:

”I just replaced my formica (see the little “f”?) countertops with Corian counters.”

    (see the upper case C?)

Formica (with a large F) was/is actually a brand name of laminate countertop material.

    Example #2:

”Hey, I’m headed to the concession stand during intermission.  Do you want a coke?”

””Yeah, can you get me a Dr. Pepper?”

Wasn’t it either Guns & Ammo magazine or Handguns magazine which tried to get a trademark on the word “racegun” in the mid-1990’s?

How did that work out for them?

Wasn’t it about 15 years ago that somebody was trying to push their copyright or trademark on the song “Happy Birthday”?

Let me guess…they were really successful with that campaign, and are now diving into their royalty payments like Scrooge McDuck???

If recall correctly it was Springfield Armory who tried that with 'racegun' or it may have been guns and ammo?

  10. A mill makes things much nicer but it you have a decent set of calipers, a sharpie, and a center punch to do the layout work and then check it against your mount before you drill, you can do it pretty easily with a decent drill press (at least to the level of precision required for a red dot frame mount.)

I’ve heard swmp and aa7 are the same but apparently swmp 9major with 115gr even at the same charge has more pressure than aa7. I don’t recall what the program is that measures that but maybe someone can confirm?

Shooters world major varied greatly by lot.  Some lots were faster.  Some slower.   At least one lot was so slow you just about couldn't make major with it in some configurations of gun.

But so long as you could get enough of one lot it wasn't that big if a deal (just work up your load and pay attention to what the brass was telling you.
