  1. I've loaded up some MG 147s and used them on steel heavy stages, and at pin matches. I absolutely feel they made a difference. I've loaded the 147s with 3.6 and 3.8gr of TG with great results (warning, these are max loads, work up appropriately) and even tested 4.gr, but was certainly seeing pressure signs there. Sorry I can't remember my chrono or OAL numbers right now, I can look them up if anyone is interested. Recoil was more than when I shoot 124s at 130pf, but still less than shooting a factory .40 load. One issue is that the longer 9mm rounds can do some weird things to the cases. You can get weird bulges where the brass buckles at the base of the bullet. I think some brass just wasn't designed for that long of a bullet.
  2. Couldn't shooting a wall be called a 'forbidden act' in the stage description and have a penalty associated with it?

    CTS .40

The SP01 frame in .40 only holds 12rds. Not really a good setup for Limited.

    CTS .40

FYI - The grip of the TS is substantially different than the 75 series guns. It is a fair bit deeper and a bit wider. If you like the CZ because you have smaller hands, then you should try to get your hands on a TS before you buy one.
  5. A CZ75b or a SP01 with the standard CZ75 mags certainly wouldn't have an issue. The 19 rd SP01 mags + the tall sights make it a tight fit.
  6. Unless she is real sharp, show her a listing for a stock SP01 and tell her that's what you got. Or, get a stock SP01, so you can show the receipt, and build up the gun yourself. Its not that hard. Fitting the competition hammer is the toughest part.

    Help me decide

Actually, it doesn't really squeeze the mags - it's that the basepads (and extensions) are more or less *exactly* the same dimension as the magwell, leading to possible sticking. And with the extensions, if the baseplates get bent, the back edge can drag on the magwell as well. I've filed down the rear portion of the top edges on my extensions, and always check that the baseplates are square when re-assembling the mags. With the slight mod and attention during maintenance, they have zero issues with any dragging or catching. Actually it DOES squeeze the frame, causing the mags to drag. I am aware of the issue with the extensions (last ones I got were different and didn't have the problem BTW). This was confirmed by CZ when I sent it in to have the trigger reset issue fixed . A mag would drop half way out and hang up.

    Help me decide

I got a TS so I could move into Limited. I thought that, like my SP01, I'd pull it out of the box and be ready to shoot. That has not been the case. Its gone back to CZ once to fix a non-resetting trigger. The mag extensions caused all sorts of jams. The Angus magwell squeezes the frame so mags don't drop free. One factory mag hasn't fed reliably since day 1. I'm not bad mouthing the gun. Now that I've got the bugs worked out I really like it. Its just that I thought by getting it, I'd avoid alot of the 1911 fiddling and tuning.
  9. Powder valley has 1lbers of BLC2 in stock. Have you tried TAC? I've found I like it better than H335.
  10. Alot of people don't like FC brass, but I've found it usually doesn't need trimmed for its first reloading. That sure is handy!
  11. I started loading .223 last year. Previous to that all I'd done was 9mm. I found the Possum Hollow case trimmer was a great help - its cheap and fast. Of course if you have the $$$ the dillon one would make things go quicker. Crimped primer pockets are a PITA. I got the Dillon swager and haven't been thrilled with it. No matter how I set it up I have a hard time seating primers in the brass. Check out the how to at AR15.com - go to the armory section and reloading is towards the bottom. There is a great step by step pictorial on reloading .223. It helped me a lot.
  12. Solo 1000 and WST sound good. The expense of the N320 would kinda negate the advantage of using lead bullets though. Thanks for the suggestions, keep 'em coming. What about Power Pistol, Silhouette, or AA#7?
  13. I know this is asking a lot, but is there a powder that will work well for 9mm minor PF and .40 major, AND work well with both lead and jacketed bullets? I've been loading 9mm with Titegroup and have been very happy with it. I just bought a limited gun and need to get up to speed with .40. I've loaded a couple hundred Berrys plated with TG and they've been fine. However I'd like to try lead bullets to keep costs down. It seems that TG really isn't recommended for lead around here. I can't load long if that's a factor. Suggestions? Thanks!
  14. "Production Division was created to be a division for stock pistols with very limited modifications allowed" I think most of us would consider finger groove grips to be a minor modification, and most of us would consider the high end trigger jobs we see in production to not be a 'limited modification'. And I have put my FPB back in as well, yet I've never seen that checked.
  15. LAME! This exact thing bumped me to open at Area 1. When I started shooting USPSA it was explained to me that production was for guns that a PO or Mil person would actually carry on duty. Yet there are glocks that are so far from that its silly. Yet I can't put hogue grips on my gun - which are very popular with POs. Note grip sleeves are allowed, yet they often have finger grooves.
  16. I used an accumold for a HK USP until my bladetech showed up. It fit pretty good.
  17. My SP01 didn't fit in the box at nationals (with LPA sights). I got bumped to open. I asked angus about this and he informed me I wasn't the only one with a problem fitting in the box. He emailed me a pic of an SP01 with my sights fitting in a box. Angus contacted USPSA about the undersized box and this was the response: "The measurements on the box were done by Michael, However, prior to the measurement of it, a new USPSA approved box from EGW was ordered for the chrono, it will shipped directly to Greg Lent as the only official measuring box." Which to me means they know its wrong but won't admit anything. So I guess my answer to the OP question is, they make your gun damn close to being oversized. Do you want to risk it?
  18. A buddy bought some through ammoman earlier this year. I reload it without removing the crimp (mostly because its mixed in with other brass pickups) and find that 95% of the time the primer goes in fine. Just ease it in there.
  19. 4.0 barely made minor in my SP01 with 124gr MG CMJs. I bumped it to 4.1 for a bit more margin. I think it was 131pf at nationals. I too have considered shooting in Limited as Minor with the SP01. I think it would do really well. Its a shame the SP01 in .40 has such limited capacity. If not for that, I think it would be the perfect bargain limited gun.
  20. LPAs bumped me into open at Nationals - didn't fit in the box. Angus sez their box was a bit undersized though and sent me a pic of a SP01 fitting in the box nicely with my sights. So . . . beware I guess.
  21. Thanks for the replies. I'll take it apart and see if I can figure anything out. Since the fpb rests on the firing pin when at rest, if I remove some material from it, it would sit lower - could this cause interference with anything? I already have a bunch of Winchester primers so I'd rather not change, especially with the difficulty of finding ANY primers these days. Plus it was working before, so its not just the light trigger causing this.
  22. So I put my FPBs back in the CZs. But well that's the rules . . . Now I'm getting light strikes. I shot Golden Bullet over the weekend and had 4 or 5 out of 300 or so rounds. Yes I reload and I am very careful about high primers, plus I haven't had any issues previously with my reloads. I use a 15lb hammer spring, and know others use 13lb springs. I put in a fresh new 15lb spring thinking maybe mine was getting a bit tired - its been used for over a year of competition now. That didn't fix it. I'm left wondering if the FPB is causing this issue. Perhaps its dragging a bit? Could I take a bit off the part that catches the FP without rendering it useless? I seem to remember reading that the Shadow FP is a bit longer than the SP01 standard FP. Are these available? I don't suppose they have the cut required to be used with a FPB? Any other ideas? Thanks!
  23. Is the Shadow barrel the same as the regular SP01? I loaded some MG 147s to 1.160 and they all functioned fine. Usually I run them more at 1.120 though.
  24. I use 147 MGs and TG. I load mine a little hot for falling steel and use 3.6gr (max published load) and get 940fps (CZ SP01) - this is at a 1.120 COAL, which is a bit short, but its where it ends up if I don't adjust after loading 124s. I did some experimenting and got up to 4.4gr before I started to see overpressure signs. Unfortunately it was too cloudy for the chrono that day.
