BritinUSA
When that happened to me, I took a break. I wasn't missing the shooting at all, then one day I got the urge back. I have no idea what triggered it but my shooting felt better to me after the hiatus. I still have down days, I think everybody does, but now when it happens i don't stress about it. I know that drive will kick in and I'll be better for having taken a mini-break. Edited January 22, 2010 by BritinUSA
Filishooter
Happened to me last year and I took a short break from competition and practice. I did some 3 gun, took my 9 year old daughter shooting and through her, found out that shooting was fun again. I never really stopped shooting, but I did stop trying (ie: putting un-needed pressure on myself to perform) and I looked forward to getting to the range just to shoot. Sometimes we need to step back and think about why we do the things we do. If you're getting frustrated with not meeting your expectations try to let it go, and have fun again. bigstick0000
I hit a real low, felt like nothing was helping me get better. Then I met a grandmaster and started shooting with him. He helped me so much, so quickly, it was amazing. This guy is driven and it sort of rubs off on you, he loves to shoot and I mean a lot. I quess that is why he is a grandmaster. Frankmako
back in the suumer of 86 i got into one. took the rest of the year off from shooting. got back in the game in 87. then several years later (mid 90's) it came back. so i took off for over a year. so far it is a go. but i am taking it slower, not doing many matches these day. just staying in the game and a lots of practice time with the grand kids. boz1911
Been in the funk for a while also. By accident I'm finally out of it. Recently I bought a new camera and started having people shoot videos of me shooting. Watching the videos I realized all the things I was doing "right". Wow what a revelation. Now my confidence has returned and the scores are reflecting it. Bottom line is for me anyway my funk was a mental issue, not so much a shooting issue. I still see places for improvement watching the vid's but at least I know what to do about those.
benos
I came across a good post with quite a few links on this topic in the Mental Management FAQs. be
Steven Cline
Thank everyone for the advise and encouragement. I think I came out of my funk: http://www.bullethole.com/scores/bpsc/2010/feb_10.html http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0y311UO9nfw I ordered new grips and started shooting basic drills (lot's of Bianchi plate). I also ordered Brian's Beyond Fundamentals and have been reading it.
