  1. It was nice to see an Asian dude score with the farmer's daughter, and it only took a zombie apocalypse for it to happen!
  2. Amen, more zombies, less hysteria / psychology. I can watch OWN if I want that. A couple weeks ago my wife asked what I was watching and I said a zombie movie. She watch with me for a while and commented that there wasn't much zombie action going on. Sunday rolls around and I'm setting up the DVR to record the show, she asks if we're going to watch that zombie soap opera again! She's right...but I can't stop watching!
  3. Gotta agree with everyone else, you need a stronger base/lower COG. For much of the shooting, it looked like you were struggling to stay on your feet. Being able to shoot from unstable positions is a good skill to have but make it an exception instead of a rule. Make an effort to keep your weight in balance and your feet underneath you and you'll not only create a more stable platform to shoot from, you'll be able to accelerate and decelerate quicker and smoother.
  4. Awesome match...the funnest match I've ever been to. The COFs were well designed and the time the setup crew spent on props and art & design rivaled the stage design of the live theater houses I've been to! It really made the experience more memorable and put the match over the top. 400+ rounds (with all my makeup shots) didn't hurt either. Hey Erich, It's Andy, I was on squad 11 with you with my friends Ben and "the other" Eric. It was fun shooting with you, we had a great squad indeed!
  5. they had about as many zombies as commercial breaks!
  6. I just watched 3 Gun Nation on Versus (recorded). Are they under different rules from USPSA 3 Gun? Reason I ask is that Pat Kelly forgot his pistol on a multi-gun stage and another competitor (I think it may have even been the MD) ran and got his pistol for Pat to borrow. All this went on after the buzzer went off? I thought right away that was against the rules you posted above.
  7. On the shotgun, if your not shooting you should be loading, its all about round management. Instead of running quickly to a position and then shooting the gun empty/doing a standing reload, walk briskly while loading the gun, and arrive at the position ready to shoot. With practice you can time the cadence of your steps so you always arrive to a position fully loaded. For example if you take 2 shots then move, move fast enough to cover the distance so the last shell is being loaded as you are stepping in. If you shoot 4 and need to cover the same distance slow your steps down so the 4th is going into the gun as you arrive at the position. It doesn't "feel" faster (you are walking instead of running) but it is.
  8. Another option is to remove the 1100/1187 carrier assembly and lockwork and replace it with an 870 carrier. It loads just like an 870 with no release to push, cycles faster (since the bolt isn't being held back for every shot), and no roll-pins to break. The only downside is no last round bolt hold open. I switched from the EZLoader to this setup and it has been working great.
  9. This was posted on an Italian shooters facebook page. https://www.facebook.com/notes/andrea-lazzarini/idpa-world-champhionship-review-recensione-del-mondiale-idpa/10150307146512773Mondiale IDPA * IDPA World Champhionship review - Recensione del Mondiale IDPA by Andrea Lazzarini on Wednesday, September 28, 2011 at 7:00am This is intended to be my personal review about the recently held IDPA World Championship. I'm pretty sure that someone will be pissed about it. Well, sincerely: I don't give a damn. -Thanks to Safety Officers- First to all, I would like to thank all the Safety Officers. They worked hard all the time, in difficult weather conditions (pouring rain and sticky Florida hot), and they did their best to keep the match going on. I was really impressed by their kinkdness and patience as well. You, Ladies and Gentlemen, are the real backbone of this sport. Thank you again for your hard work, I highly appreciated it. -Match and Stages Design- The match stages were nicely designed, nothing to complain about. There were a lot of bobbers and movers that made the shooting not easy, as a World Championship should be. Some shooting from inside of cars would have been nice as well, I really enjoyed it at the 2010 Nats in Tulsa -OK- -Shooting Range and Location choice- The choice of the shooting range was awful. The Frank Garcia's Universal Shooting Academy in Frostproof -FL- is the worse shooting range I've ever seen in the US, no doubt about it. It had very low walls with poor safety, and the ground just couldn't absorb the huge amount of water due to the frequent rain. The range rapidly turned into a pond. The internal roads were full of mud, and so the parking lot. Btw: I got stuck in mud in the parking lot with my Chevy Suburban, thanks to Mr. Ray for pulling me out with his 4wheel truck. Bays were facing east and west, so the shooter in the early morning and in the evening had the sun directly on his face. Men, I just couldn't see my sights , sometimes I had to point-shoot ,my targets hoping to get my hits. Tough, Florida is known to be rainy during this period, so I can't really understand that choice of location. That made me miss the United States Shooting Academy where the 2010 IDPA Nats were held, best range I've ever seen. -Match Organization- Terrible. My first day of shooting, wednesday afternoon shift, ended after 7pm due to bad weather , and I shot the last stage in poor light conditions. And that after waiting for at least two hours for the end of the rain. My second day of shooting, thursday morning shift, started ad 07.20am with a shiny rising sun directly in my eyes. As I said before, I had to point-shoot my targets because I was unable to see my sights. No rain this time, but the sticky Florida hot, very hard to stand for me. And after day 1, a surprise came: FIVE, I say FIVE stages that I had already shot were cancelled from the Match to make it go through faster. The thing happened without official communication and excuses as well. This is EFFING RIDICULOUS, and shouldn't happen in a World Shoot. Shame on You! -Award Ceremony and Dinner- In comparison with the 2010 Tulsa Nats Award Ceremony held in Hilton Hotel: TOTAL FAIL. The ceremony was held in a tent structure raised in the parking lot of the Westgate River Ranch. I paid 30 bucks for having a single dish with veggies, some pork and some chicken, a beer and a slice of pie; and not served to my table but in a buffet-style and after a very long queue. If I had known before, I would have saved my money. No doubt about it. It was hard to hear what the speaker said, because of poor sound system that didn't help my bad english. -Awards- The medal I got as member of the Italian Official Team is a made-in-China (f*ck!) and can be easily bent with hands. Do I need to say more? -Conclusions- I'm totally unsatisfied about the 2011 IDPA World Championship. It was the inaugural one and it should have been a blast, but it happened to be a fail; and not worth the registration fee I paid. Btw: as I wrote in a note that can be found on my FB profile, this has been the last IDPA match of my life because of IDPA HQ's abominable behaviour towards IDPA Italy, gone on since april 2011. My membership card has already been processed by my office's shredder. 10-10 over and out. Andrea Lazzarini ex IT1265 – ESR MA and hard working Safety Officer
  10. Didn't like that half the competitors (including the SOs) shot in partial rain Monday-Thursday the other half shot under clear skies Friday and Saturday. I realize that's just the way it is with a long match, but it still sucked for the groups that slopped though the match when your competition has more favorable conditions. Didn't like that half of the competitors shot 5 stages that were thrown out and the other half, who shot later in the week didn't even have to shoot them. It was long days of shooting and not shooting 5 stages might (or might not) leave more capacity to focus on the stages that really counted. Again, just luck of the draw, but it might be a reason to squad on the final days of the match. By the way, I did really well on 4 of the 5 that were tossed, so that personally sucked for me! Why couldn't they have tossed the stages I screwed up on?! The chrono/equipment check was extra thorough on checking out M&Ps. Seems like he looked at mine for a good 5 minutes then told me I may have to "see him tomorrow"? The guy before me, the SO was commenting about his "trigger job". There was nothing wrong with our guns, the guy before me even said his gun was bone stock? I heard him telling someone else that Dan Burwell showed him all of the tricks you can do with the M&P, so I just assume he was putting his newfound knowledge to use, most likely checking that all the safeties are working. I don't have a problem with being thorough, but telling me I might need to see him tomorrow was over the top. If I'm going to be DQ'd do it right there on the spot. Yeah, the PA system sounded like my daughter's cheap Karaoke machine. Stages were good, lots and lots of swingers. I didn't mind them but I can see how some shooters who don't shoot them a lot might have gotten tired of them. SO's and volunteers were great. Free drinks all day was nice. Squad mom idea was excellent.
  11. Not sure what TS will do to follow up the rocks episode. Maybe a boomerang (this would be highly entertaining watching competitors take cover from their own throw). Lawn darts? Rubber bands and spit balls out of a straw?
  12. Cliff, were there any rules specifically prohibiting throwing 5 or 6 at a time to "shotgun" the can and get a higher hit probability? That's what I thought you were going to do when you grabbed 6. I can't believe I'm gaming rock throwing!
  13. Cliff was awesome in the elimination challenge. I can still hear Colby in my head..."Like a MachEEEEEN!!" I think that the weapon used in the eliminations should be more related to the team challenge though. A different challenge but the same or similar platform. They shot a shotgun in the team challenge, people got voted based on their performance with the shotgun, they should have to go though the elimination with a shotgun. Maybe change it up to poppers and flipper clays with a double barrel or something but I think if you got voted in because you didn't shoot well with a weapon you should have to use that type of weapon to stay alive.
  14. Funny, a friend just sent me this link yesterday. http://artofmanliness.com/2011/08/14/plateau-busting-how-to-take-your-life-to-the-next-level/
  15. I've also heard the holster can lockup if you get debris in the locking mechanism, it locks so tight you can't get the gun out. Just something to keep in mind if your shooting IDPA/IPSC 3 gun and need to go prone with the rifle.
  16. So, is this the difference between Limited and Tactical now? Someone with a 1x Optic can either compete in Limited against other 1x Optics or irons, or in tactical against other 1x optics or variables. Limited = irons and/or 1x optic Tactical = 1x optic OR variable optic (not both) + offset irons
  17. he got both, but wasn't he also the ONLY one to get it at all? That's what I saw. BJ got back to home base but didn't have enough time to break the shot. I think those 2 were the only ones to even attempt it. The stage also changed from that diagram. From home base there were 3 steel on the ground and 5 on the pitchers mound. Manny left the 3 on the ground (on purpose) and cleaned everything else.
  18. Highs are in the mid-90s and a 40-50 percent chance for afternoon showers though the week. Pretty typical this year for Florida. If you're coming from a mild climate, its going to feel humid! Hey Gerard, congrats on making MA. I shot with you at the Area 6 a couple months ago.
  19. I've had good luck with these, made from Sorbothane. http://www.godagrip.com/cheek-pads.html
  20. Is 50 too old to have fun and get better? Nope. Its also not too old to expect to win and be competitive. Think about this...Its only 5 more years to Senior class for you and you'll be the "young guy!"
  21. I run a 13lb with a stock striker spring
  22. Its hard to tell without knowing your current size and gripping strength. If you are doing sporting goods store grippers easily then you'll quickly pass anything less than a CoC No.1 (guide or trainer) The jump from 1 to 2 is tougher. I would start with at least a 1. If you feel your grip is pretty well developed already go for a 1.5 or a 2. If you get a gripper that you can't close completely, hang onto it and buy the next one down until you work your way up to it. its good to have a lighter one to warm you up, one to do your reps with (that you can close with effort) and one up that you can't close to work up to.
  23. A draw from concealment adds about .25 -.30 onto my draw without concealment.
