Ray Ninness
I still think there should be a Classic or Retro Open Division. Single stack 170mm mags, Iron sights, Compensators... That would give life to old safe queens. When I quite shooting many years ago, it was primarly because I couldn't Run with the Big Dogs.. My knees wouldn't function in the up direction, getting down was easy.. My getting up was in the Egg Timer relm :-( Is there an old mans class by now?? Hopefully Robbie and Barnhart aren't elegible yet!!! :-D I might get interested and get a 1911 A1 45 Single Stack for one of the classes it qualifies for??? But until then, the nice shiny 45 Comp gun with iron sights will be my stick of choice.. If I can get some 38 Super brewed up later this year the 38 Super my get some range time in... benos
This thread's subtitle cracked me up: Where does it fit into the new scheme of things??? At a pin match, in the IPSC museum, or one's private collection! (BTW, I wish I still had one.)
Flexmoney
I think Wilson Combat still offers that gun and some versions of it (from full-size to Commander to bob-tailed). Pretty wild.

Those old school guns still appeal to some of us old farts .Wilson only offers a comp on a Commander or officer sized 1911, and it's not a full profile comp...too bad or I'd buy one. Flexmoney
I was cruising around another forum and somebody linked up to this Cogan gun that sold for $800 http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.asp?Item=130424079
Steve J
Jeez. He stole that. It look almost new. Mostly collector value, but a steal nonetheless.
Flexmoney
Yeah...that is a nice discount just on the parts that are in it. Let only the craftsmanship.

The gun shoots nice I still understand the principle of mag changing, aren't courses supposed to be 8 round neutral??? I think I'm well past winning the National Championship, so I'll keep shooting the 45 and the Super, it's supposed to be fun right???
uscbigdawg
Ray, Competitive-ness? Use them in Pins (45) or Steel Challenge. Like you said. Have fun with it. Rich

Rich I was perhaps the only club member at the Livingston Gun Club, in Brighton, Michigan, that didn't lke Pins, many of the guys were big on Second Chance. Pin drove me crazy especially when they laid down and just spun around when you shot them :-( The only steel I ever shot was in IPSC matches, IPSC is my game of choice. If I get frustrated at the back of the pack, maybe an STI will be in my future??? Edited June 12, 2009 by Ray Ninness
Dan Sierpina
Ray, You can do as 9X21 has done and have the comp removed and a bushing and barrel fitted. His barrels being .38 Super and 9MM had sleeves installed and turned down, doing away with the cones. A .45ACP barrel would be too thin to be threaded and sleeved. Another choice would have a new slide and barrel fitted and shoot Single Stack. Two different approaches to the same issue.

I have been looking for a nice Single Stack gun, in 45 ACP, lots of nice toy available out there?? Edited June 20, 2009 by Ray Ninness
