bigsaxdog
got a vepr IIk that i shoot in ipsc action rifle and 3-gun events. talking to some of the guys about trying to load it up to the 340 power factor. the wolf 154 grain load is supposed to make 2100fps (never chronographed in my gun), and the math says that with a 150 grain bullet(there's a few out there in .310), that i gotta go 2266, about 10% better than published max data. am i gonna go KABOOM trying this? somehow the image of an ak-47 bolt flying into my face makes certain body parts pucker! anybody try this for the gaming sake at big matches? there's plenty of room in the case for more AA1680, maybe just go up real slow, and watch for pressure signs? any ideas? Tokarev
Now that the power factor for major rifle is 320, the Wolf 154 load should make it!
Harmon
looks like cor-bon factory ammo pushes a 150 SP at 2300 fps for 345 pf.
Carlos
Barrel length on that gun is . . .?? Several Finns were loading to IPSC rifle Major and their data is posted here - BUT, they were using AR-15 uppers in 7.62x39. With the lower power factor for rifle, you whould be fine working up a load with a chrono. Others have.
L9X25
I am no expert on the caliber but think that AA1680 might be a little fast to go after max velocity on. Maybe try some H4198, H322 or H4895?
Harmon
try 4895 with 150s
Revopop
I wonder if bigsaxdog's had enough time to develop this load in the last 7 years since he posted the question.
djeffers
I hate to resurrect an old thread, but ........ I have some 7.62x39 brass coming in the mail (supposedly). I wouldn't mind giving this a try if anyone has any load data. Also, who made the .310 150gr bullets?
P.E. Kelley
Where is Major rifle scoring still used other than in IPSC rifle events. In the Heavy divisions...308 Winchester (7.62x51) is mandated.
djeffers
Thanks, Mr. Kelly. I was just looking for options! Which bullets would you recommend to reload for 308?
P.E. Kelley
Back when I shot HM I ran any Mil Surp 145/147 grain ammo for the stuff under 200 yards and 168s after. Today. If I got back into it (and I might with the new 3-Gun Nation rules) I'd shoot 155's across the board.
djeffers
I do like the idea of shooting one bullet across the board. After a humorous post by "Mr. Weakhand" I decided to load 55gr across the board for .223 and haven't looked back.
MAC702
I'm shooting 143-grain Battle Born Munitions .308 across the board. I'm shooting iron sights and have no problem with the hits being calibrated to the rear sight range clicks of an M14 platform.
