elynch2007
I am building my first Ar project and should I get an upper and barrel with the M4 ramp or just get the standard ramp? What are the pros and cons?
John Dunn
I have reliable ARs with and without them. I look at them as insurance, and don't see any downside to them, so I'd go with the M4 cuts whenever possible.

What are the pros and cons? What kind of set up are you building??? And yes I would go with the ramps. Chris C. SA Friday
OK, I know a thing or two about guns, but haven't heard of a barrel ramp for an M-4. I have been toying around with an AR build in the future. Someone have pics or a site that explains this?
warpspeed
This is the best picture I have seen: If you want, IMHO, a good explanation, see http://m4carbine.net/showthread.php?t=

I can't see the pics since our asteemed govt stripped them from both sites, but I get what it is from the wording. Thanks.
mxpatriot51
Both work. Doesn't hurt to get the M4 cuts. Just make sure the upper receiver and barrel are for the same cut. M4 cuts require a receiver cut for M4 cuts to be reliable.
steel1212
Yup, your barrel can have m4 cuts but your receiver doesn't have to be but you don't want a receiver with them and not the barrel. I run a sabre defence barrel and it has m4 cuts but my current receiver doesn't but I don't see any need to get on that does.
Big Shooter
I believe they really shine when used with full auto and short barrels. Semi-auto they're not that important
Larry White
Dremil matches the m4 cuts to any reciver very nicely.-----------Larry
elynch2007
Chris, I am looking to build with a DPMS stripped lower, using a 18 inch stainlesss SPR barrel and upper reciever with foward assist that has the M4 ramp cuts in them from White Oak Arm., along with a good tactical comp on the end. An Acestock with a 1 Inch tube extention, and free vented float tube, then top that with a extended scope mount and a Millet DMS1 scope. It may take me awhile to get it together but it should be ready for next year for sure.
GentlemanJim
Most of us that build ARs blend the ramps into the reciever...but dont go gettin crazy Jim

SA Friday
Had a real close look at my GI issued M-4 the other day after reading this thread and additional info. It does have ramps. Never noticed that before.
