Jacketed Bullet Production Machinery

Recommended Posts

I have a friend who is thinking about getting into manufacturing Jacketed Bullets. He asked me about different manufacturers of the machinery to make the bullets. I dont have a clue but I thought of you guys could offer some links for us to research.

He wants good heavy duty machines that can makes lots of bullets fast for a long time.

The guy who had d&j out here on the east coast has his equipment for sale last I heard. No one has purchased it and well he was looking to sell. I don't know how to get hold of him but someone might if they see this and remember him.

D&J never made jacketed bullets. They only made lead. The jacketed bullets were other brands repackaged. Mostly Zero. The original owner was Donnie Fraley. Donnie sold to Steve Hitch but never paid for it completely so Donnie gave the name to a guy in West Virginia who was using the name last I heard. I havent heard what has happened in the last couple years even though I did just buy some 308 ammo from Donnie Fraley. I dont think he had any casters left. So I am not sure who would have the lead equipment for sale.

If my memory serves me Sierra make their own machines and I believe they onsell them. But I KNOW Corbin do make what you are looking for if you intend going into a smaller than Sierra operation.

This wants to go into a bigger operation. He mentioned Corbin and wanted something faster, bigger. Probably more than one.

Chuck,

Call Sierra, I am sure they make machines, all their machines have the Sierra name and logo cast into the frame. I visited the factory in 2005 and am going again (hopefully to obtain "samples") this year. The guy who gave me the grand tour said they also supply other makers with specialised swaging units.

Star's machinery in Indianapolis might be up for sale. As I recall, he designed/mfg his own, too. The very last I heard was that he was still making lead 45s and 38s for the bullseye crowd, but jacketed operations were done and have been for over 2 years.

Dave,

I had an order with him quite some time ago and he sent some samples down. They did not shoot as good as the Zero's etc, but were reasonably well made. As good as Winchester or Remington FMJ's and a little cheaper.

If in good condition, at the right price that would be a great place to start.

Any idea of money???
