Rob Boudrie
I hate Networks Solutions (www.netsol.com) whois. If you "whois" a non-existant domain, they register it for themselves for 4 days - which means you have to either register it with them, or risk someone else getting it while you wait for the ICANN error correction period (the time Netsol can hold the domain without paying a fee themselves). This is fraud, plain and simple.
ChuckS
Rob, How fast do they get the domain registered?

jhgtyre
Front running is very uncool but what else would you expect from Network Solutions? -ld
Rob Boudrie
How fast do they get the domain registered? Pretty dang close to instant - the easiest way to see this for yourself is to WHOIS a domain at Netsol and then check at Godaddy to see if it is taken. Chris Rhines
Netsol. Ugh. I'm a little surprised the ICANN hasn't gotten up their sphincter about this... - Chris
ChuckS
Well, There does seem to be a human in the loop on this. I whois'ed thiscantpossiblybereal.com and they registered the next day. That same day I whois'ed thebastardsatnetsolwillsquatonthisfor4days.com They have yet to register that domain.
Rob Boudrie
I suspect they may have a maximum string length - "thebastardsatnetsol.com" was frontrun almost instantly.

ChrisStock
My suggested domain was much more obscene, but they didn't register it either. Wonder if I DID create it, would they tag me a cyber squatter and go for damages? At least know you probably wasted someone's time there.
Glockster35
I recently bought my first domain name, and have since registered several others. I was sent Net-Sol's address to do a whois by a friend...then I ended up waiting for the domain name to come available, yes 4 days later. Talk about crappy business practices! I use GoDaddy exclusively for my Domain needs now! I own 4 different Massive Multiplayer Online Role Playing Games (MMORPG), and a script writing company website. Net-Sol can suck an egg, I'm not a fan of their business practices!
