Clear.com Wireless Anywhere
p99shooter replied to wgnoyes's topic in Computers, Cameras, and Electronic Devices of Any Kind
Not using it, but it is based on 802.16, or Wi-Max. It's a new wireless protocol for high-speed that will supposedly offer download speeds around 100 Mbps. Now that the DTV conversion is completed, a lot of telecomm companies are buying up the old UHF/VHF spectrum spaces to provide this kind of service. It was originally designed for back-haul applications, but client connectivity works too. -
SDPS had been putting out a hand-washing station near their trailer. The station was kept outside the trailer, and one match I went to set it up and ...you guessed it! Bit by a wasp on the left hand while trying to put up the paper towel roll. It hurt, but there was almost no swelling and I shot really well that day. I haven't done any further testing on the effect of wasp bites and shooting quality!

The "old" bay one at Sac Valley. Liked seeing the dust kicked up and drifting in front of the camera!

http://wechoosethemoon.org/ It's a multimedia playback of the Apollo 11 mission, in real time, with the recorded audio between capcom and apollo 11. When you first enter the page, it does a little demo, but it will then jump into the current position in the mission. Right now, they are in the trans-lunar cruise.

I painted most of the interior of my house myself, and all of the ceilings. Hated doing most of it, especially the walls that are cherry cobbler (1 coat primer + 2 coats paint), and we did two rooms with sponges. Took forever and cost big $, but the house looks nice.

Cordless phones...
p99shooter replied to -JQ-'s topic in Miscellaneous Topics That Do Not Fit in Any Other Forum
The new DECT phones have outstanding quality and other devices in 2.4 GHz range won't interfere with them. -

I just found a great article about Michael Phelps, Ty Pennington, and Danielle Fisher (the youngest person ever to climb the Seven Summits). The article discusses how their moms each worked with them on their ADD. I read through it and will have to show it to my wife.
-
So, I'm searching the web, looking to find an article on any major league baseball players with ADD. My son with ADD is struggling at the plate in little league now, and I was hoping to give him an example of a pro with ADD, to maybe remove some of his self-limiting beliefs. Well, what do I find instead? Scores of articles on how after 2006, when MLB placed a ban on amphetamines, the number of baseball players that received a theraputic use exclusion for drugs like Ritalin or Adderal went up by a factor of 8! Essential, after the ban on amphetamines, pro players got doctors to diagnose them with ADD and prescribe stimulant drugs like Ritalin or Adderal. The percentage of MLB players "with" ADD is now at about 8 times the rate of the general population. So, they cheat, and trivialize ADD as a disorder at the same time. Makes me sick, make me want to stick my head in a hole in the ground like an ostrich, and makes me want to never see another ball game again. ARRGG.

Conficker Worm
p99shooter replied to JThompson's topic in Computers, Cameras, and Electronic Devices of Any Kind
The vulnerability that conficker exploits was patched my Microsoft over 6 months ago. If people were dilligent about taking care of their computers, they wouldn't rushing there to fix the problem after it is too late. Another way to check and see if you are infected is to attempt to boot your PC into Safe Mode. (Restart, hit F8 after bios messages, or just keep tapping F8 while system boots up, and select Safe Mode from the menu). Conficker prevents a system from booting into safe mode. -
Slide Show Help Needed
p99shooter replied to Nik Habicht's topic in Computers, Cameras, and Electronic Devices of Any Kind
Look into Microsoft Photo Story 3. It is free, allows background music, does automatic pans and zooms, and will export to a movie format. I'm not quite sure how it handles title slides, but I think it will. -
I have a Gun Vault quick access safe. It is push button combination, and it has tamper indicators and lock-out functions which will disable the safe if a certain number of incorrect entries are made. I have one of these on the nightstand by the bed. I have an 8 year old and a 2 year old.

My wife was a victim of sexual abuse from a family member. He molested multiple victims in the family. Nobody new about it and nothing was done until one of the victims talked about the abuse with another family member that was a mandatory-reporter. The wounds will never fully heal, as I am reminded of every so often. I'm glad you got the opportunity to put one in jail.

This seems like a match: Jews in orange protest outside consulate Orange is used by anti-disengagement protesters.

I'm pretty sure switching between focusing on a paster on a mirror and a reflection in the mirror does require a physical change in focus distance for your eyes, so I think this is a great way to practice changing you focus.

Lots of peeps saying the Matrix is one of their favs. If you liked The Matrix, I highly recommend two other movies: Dark City (1998), and Ghost In The Shell (1995). Ghost In The Shell is Japanese anime, which may not play well with all here, but if you dig Matrix you will definitley dig that. Matrix came out in 1999, and after you see these two, you may wonder how original The Matrix really was In addition two those two as my favorites, I would add Dune Blade Runner

I grew up int Luzerne County, Wilkes-Barre to be specific. This is sad. I heard growing up there that politics was infested with nepotism and corruption.

+1 This should be deleted. Well, it was made by the same people that did this one http://www.brianenos.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=75605 and all yall thought that one was funny a few months ago. Like any other endeavour, some rap/hip-hop is great, and some sucks.

Are the SureFire "combat rings" legal in IDPA?
p99shooter replied to Drachen27's topic in IDPA Shooting
There is nothing in the current rulebook regarding flashlights or holding systems. Matches that have low light/no light stages will usually provide a flashlight to the competitor for consistency's sake. -
For the Trekkies - What is the PF of a phaser
p99shooter replied to Franklin D Wolverton's topic in Humor
This is a bad assumption. Photons are not protons. Photons are massless... You have a PF of zero in both cases Photons are massless but they do have momentum, so there would be a PF -
I know how to find centers on studs and such...I did say in my earlier post that I have a heavy bag hung in my garage and I can swing from it like a fat monkey and it won't come down. But it is mounted via a 2x4 brace cut to fit between adjacent joists, screwed through the joists into the brace, and then with lag BOLTS through the brace into the bag support bracket. I watched the video and he did stress how importantant it is to make sure you are exactly on center when drilling. Even if you are on center, if your pilot hole isn't perfectly square to the joist, you can still over-penetrate it. Then if you over-torque the lag bolt, you can strip the wood (also mentioned in the video). Then you can hit imperfections in the joist like knots, or hit electrical staples. Think of how many times in construction you have seen a screw used to directly support a vertical load. I'm not saying anything bad about the product or any of its endorsers, but users have to understand the danger in mounting something meant to be used in this manner using direct load bearing screws, even if they have the carpentry skills to hang it.
-
It looks like a great product, but I'd be concerned with how it is mounted. Putting those big lag screws into something that's only 1.5" across seems risky; you could split the beam or if you're not perfectly square, screw through the beam. Some new constructions homes, like mine, use 2x4s instead of 2x6s for joists too. When I find time and money, I'm going to put one up using a hanger that will attach to ceiling joists using lag bolts that go through the joists. I have a heavy bag hung the same way, and I can climb on top of it without worrying it will come down. I'll take some pics and post.
