sv45
If the head space on a .40 barrel was reamed to deap, do you think this will cause a problem?

GentlemanJim
Short answer yes ..40 is a fairly high pressure caliber... This 40 cal blew up at the dust devil....quite a BANG Jim
Dan Sierpina
Jim, That kind of explosion is not due to headspace. It's from too much powder, or shooting over a squib.
benny hill
NOT a headspace problem, probley a low powder load that got below primer flash .
HSMITH
There are a LOT of guys out there shooting 40 through 10mm guns, so no, it isn't the end of the world. I can't believe that it will shoot as well as a properly cut chamber but it can be safely shot. Headspace and chamber depth are two different animals only slightly related. GentlemanJim
The Blown 40 was an over charge as per the gent who did it Headspace problems i have seen were blown primers, ruptured cases and very poor accuracy. If an expert like Benny checks it and says its ok I would use it. Not knowing exactly how much it is over cut I would be very leary about it. berkbw
Headspace KBs are caused by lack of case support, normally caused by a recessed breech face. High pressure and deep reaming can cause ruptured primers and broken extractors.
