Well, that was interesting. It was a hoser match (no surprise). I needed a good sight picture on three targets. The match overall could easily have been won by the right person with a Limited gun. (Ron Filho took a stage overall with a Limited gun.) Lots of standing & one-step reloads for full-capacity guns. Everybody else did a whole bunch of flat-footed reloads. Lots of stacked targets, without vision aid borders. Very few no shoots, a couple drop-turners, and a stacked swinger. One hardcovered partial. Maybe two or three sideways or upside-down targets. Longest shot on most stages was 10 yards. The only challenge was how fast you could go. BE would've hated it.

I was shooting a different match, scoring 97% or more of the points when the top dogs were burning up the timers.

Hmmm...

5% of the shooters were DQ'd.

Does that sound typical?

Only 2% of shooters at Idaho State were......

I wonder what the going rate is of DQ's at big matches?

It is excessive.  I was very disappointed to see that many shooters get sent home.   Surprisingly enough, as far as I know, only 1 of the DQ's was for a 180 violation.

3 of them were for AD's during reloading and 1 was for a dropped gun.

The results are posted at http://www.nevadasection.com

Yeah and I saw two of my squaddies probably break the 180 without getting DQed. At SF bay area clubs we don't know how to do this run-by side-berm target thing.

Actually I heard a certain shooter was stopped by forum member RO Austin when he got his gun caught in the orange fence port and broke the 180 trying to get it out. That stage was the worst of the match... never cut ports into snow fence!

The stage Kathy ROd was unfair. Depending on the random location of the prop, you could get lucky and shave a couple seconds off your run. Sort of like that Area 2 stage last year.

Speaking of which, the BoB match did the surprise target thing right. It was fair. Each port had an array of three targets and the surprise target was added to an array. None of this skip-the-port crap.

Roger the problem with ports in snow-fence....

I'm looking at 2001Limited Nats finals.

254 shooters, 1 DQ.  0.3% (3 tenths of one percent rate)

2001 Open Nats: 7 DQ's of 280 shooters.  2.5% DQ rate.

That's a big difference between the two!

But 2.5% is half of what the Best-O'-the Best rate was....

Ya, I was there.  Lot's of dropped and 180 violations.

Limited: 111 shooters, 8 DQ'd

Open:     122 shooters, 7 DQ'd

Lim-10:    47 shooters,  3 DQ'd

Prod:        12 shooters,  2 DQ'd

Rev:            4 shooters,  0 DQ'd

-----------------------------------------------

296 shooters, 20 DQs= 6.75% DQ rate!!!!

Here is a once in a lifetime chance for the everyday IPSC shooter. Johnny Lim of LimCat Custom is putting on his “Best of the Best” match again this year and it is scheduled for the first weekend in May. The match last year was a fantastic success, especially for the shooters that don’t normally get to head to the prize table in the front of the line. Johnny runs the prize table on a raffle basis so it gives an even chance for everybody to get something great.

Now for the special twist at this years match. The Powder Keg and the Western Nevada Pistol League sponsored a Todd Jarrett Basic IPSC class in Reno last November and even though the weather didn’t co-operate as well as we had hoped, the class was fantastic, so we invited him back again. Well Todd’s schedule being what it is, we got him for the first weekend in May. That’s when the scheduling conflict hit. Johnny Lim being the great guy that he is worked with us to bring the whole event together. He has been gracious enough to lower the match fee from $125 to just $75 for Todd’s students.

Now where does this part about have a chance to shoot with Todd at a major match come in. A normal part of any of Todd’s classes is you will squad with Todd to shoot a local match on the final day of his class. Well instead of doing that this time, you will be in the classroom with Todd on the first day and the next two days all of Todd’s students will shoot the “Best of the Best” match as his squad. Can you ask for more fun than that?

The cost of the class it’s self is $400 and a $100 deposit will hold your seat. More information about the class is available by sending an e-mail to info@teampowderkeg.com For more information and to sign up for the match, please visit Johnny’s website at http://www.limcat.com

Hope to see you in Reno the first weekend in May.

Dan
