Ditto_95
I want to build my own 1911 from scratch. I have a military match slide and a Barsto barrel so far. My question is: What frames are available that require fitting? I did a search for replacement frames but found nothing.
Merlin Orr
Caspian makes a very good product. I would go for the race ready frame with the integral magwell.
Action Pistolero
I'd go with a Les Baer. You can get them through Brownells. They are a little pricey but, in my opinion, no other single stack frame feels as good in my hands.
Al Capizzo
Here's another vote for Caspian's RaceReady frame. I built a gun on that platform once and I loved it. Of course I eventually sold it, and regretted it.

jpl
"Best" is really subjective. If you are trying to build a tight, quality piece, measure the rail dimensions of the slide you already have. Then contact some of the quality parts providers (ie: Caspian, STI, Rock River, etc.) to see who can supply a frame with rail dimensions that will require fitting with the slide. That will give you a real "quality" base to build the rest of your pistol. -JPL

What I should have said is who can provide a quality frame that is slightly oversized for fitting. I have looked at Caspian and Les Baer and see that there are a lot of people using them. Anybody had any issues with Rock River? I have not even seen one from them. Thanks for your help.

Dave Sample
With that barrel and slide I would not worry about what lower end you use. I am only familiar with Caspian's. I have used them for 20 years with no problems. Essex supplies lower ends that would work for your build.
Joe D
Before you do anything you need to make sure that your slide has rails the are thick enough. You will need a minimum of .116" to properly fit the slide to a "match" frame. You also need to make certain that your slide is not too wide. Sure you can peen down the frame rails and squeeze the slide, but that is kind of a half ass way to do it. If you are just wanting to build your own then go with a new Essex slide and frame. Seems like they will even fit it for you for next to nothing. The LB frames are really nice. So are the Caspians. You can get all from Brownells. The Essex slide and frame already have a matte blue finish.
Merlin Orr
infinity The SVI with an old military slide.... Silk purse and ...your girlsfriend's ear as pictured in your avatar??? Why worry with mating up such a combo? Unless the slide has some kind of "personal" value... IF you are trying to put together a "keeper." Sell the slide - keep the barrel (as good as it gets!) and buy a matched set - slide and frame - from Caspian or STI or whomever and build from there. IPSCDRL
Caspian, Caspian or Caspian. If you really want "that other guy's" frame, just buy it from the people who machine it, Caspian.
