cactus299
I just picked up a Charles Daly M5 191 Govt. 45. It is made by Bull and came with one 14 round mag. Does anyone know what other mags work in it. I tried a Para and it did not. A Kimber seemed to fit in the store. Any suggestions?
ima45dv8
Here's a couple of topics I found on the Bul mags. Try here and here. Also, try the "Mag FAQ's" at the top of the page in the Gear forum. Might find what your looking for there.

Does anyone know what other mags work in it. I tried a Para and it did not. A Kimber seemed to fit in the store. Any suggestions? Try SPS, you have to polish the mag catch and the mag will clean drop out of your Bul . When you use SPS mags, check if the feed lips of the mag don't hit the feed ramp => if it does Dremel

cactus299
thanks for the responses, but back to the original question. What mags work in the Charles Daly M5 government in 45 acp?
bulm540
Cactus, If you want para megs to work, try to look for a mag catch specifically for the para mags and they should work fine. I have a Bul m5 IPSC in .40 I am currently using para mags. The most unusual thing is , it alos works with STI mags with the para mags. I found it out by accident but I was happy when I found out. cactus299
Thanks for the info. Do you think anyone makes or can modify a mag to contain more than 14 rounds?
bulm540
Don't know about the bul m5 mags but the .45 para mags will hold more with a different base pads and followers and spring. It is Probably cheaper to buy a mag catch ( for para mags) and go with para mags. If you need further help go here www.bultransmark.com ,Ask the help of Saul Kirsch or Hayim Funes. Joe D
I was told by Saul that the new BULs, round trigger guard, would accept STI/SVI mags without modification. I hate repeating something that I do not know as fact. Don't waste your time talking with anyone at Charles Daly.
bulm540
CActus, go here to Angus' website www.ghostholster.com . Looks like the Bul m5 nmags are available for $65.00 a pop. Not bad for a chrome mag.

cactus299
thanks for the replies. I went to the ghostholster.com site. Thanks for the tip on how to get to the mags, not a user frindly site. I have only shot 250 rounds in my new M5. The first 10 were for group. Looks like about 3" at 25 yards with a cast 230g RN at a 192 PF. Does anyone know what this gun might do with a tuned load?
Joe D
There is no way to predict what your gun will do. I do know that the 200 gr SWC tends to group well in most guns. Start at 4.4 gr of Titegroup and go up from there. 4.4 just barely makes Major out of my Kimber. 4.5 gr groups around 1" @ 25 yds in both of my Kimbers. Harmon
Try the Trail Boss powder. 4.4 grains and the 230 lead shoots great...and is supa-accurate in my 45. a high cap 1911 in 45 acp may or may not like the semi wadcutter bullet. my singlestack doesnt like em at all! cactus299
My standard load is a cast 230 RN with 4.8g 700X. It makes 192 PF in my old series 70 Colt and groups about 2". Not bad for a gun that has way over 100,000 rounds through it. In the m5 it only did about 3" but maybe it will do better after its has a few thousand though it. I have tried Tight Group with good results but I will have to try Trail Boss next. The M5 shoots much different than the Colt. Seems to have more felt recoil and is harder on the web of my hand. That should get better when I have new callous built up (different spot than the Colt. It is nice having 14+1 in the gun. I will try the STI mags first. Where is the best place to get them? Joe D
I buy just about everything from www.brownells.com . Try an STI/SVI mag before you buy. Like I stated I have "heard" that they work. I do not know for certain.
bulm540
you do have to change the mag release button however. I hav not tried to use the STIs withthe bul mag button. I will chnge mags button today and try it.

YOur rounds could be hitting your slide stop. check to be sure you gun is unloaded.Take your top end off. Put slide stop on frame and insert loaded mag and it should tell you if your rounds are hitting your slide stop. File some material off your slide stop. cactus299
I picked up a Kimber 13 round 45 mag and it works fine. The base plate only allows 13 rounds. It has Megar stamped on it. I want to try a STI but I am still looking for a good place to buy them. Any ideas?
G+16
Brazo's or dawson are excellent dealers, plus either one can tune it,and add a basepad for you Edited January 20, 2006 by G+
