adding thumb safety to X5 Legion

1911/2011 guy here, but the P320 just points so much more natural that I switched.  Can I add the manual safety?  I realize at the very minimum I have to drill a hole the frame, which isn't an issue.  I just don't want to buy parts to find out the FCU or something else won't except it.

M17 and M18 have the manual safety so I don't see it being a big deal, probably a hole in the FCU and a slot into the grip module.

hmm, a hole in the frame wouldn't bother, not sure I want to put a hole in the FCU.  Knowing exactly where to put it in the FCU could be problematic.

edited - I spoke too soon.  The thumb safety on an M17/M18 can be removed and replaced with a takedown safety lever pin.  However, the reverse is not true for FCUs that were manufactured without the cutout on the right side.

Simple outcome buy yourself either an m17 orm18 and use the fcu from that.

Why?  It's completely unnecessary.  The only reason some have it is because the US Army can't grasp the fact that handguns are safe without it.

terrydoc, that sounds like a good idea.

 

SGT_Schultz, 1911 guy, I like the safety.  Secondary reason is thumb safeties give my stronghand thumb a purchase on the gun that helps with a consistent grip and better control.

BTW, does anyone know if any aftermarket safeties exist? The ones I see on M17, M18 are too small
