ysrracer
I'm shooting .38 short colt in a S&W 627, using 2.8gr of Clays. With a 160gr coated bayou bullet my average fps is 767. When I switch to Barry's plated 158gr (same profile, same oal) my average fps drops to 693. A drop of about 10%. Is that normal?
R1valdez
Yes. Plated is slower than coated
AHI
It is in my experience normal. Others may disagree. One thing to consider is diameter . ( if one is .358 and the other is .355 for example) Edited September 30, 2021 by AHI
Cuz
Generally speaking, when I chrono my ammo, with the projectiles and powder being relatively equal, coated Bullets are fastest, then plated, then jacketed.

stick
Very normal for the heads to be at different speeds. That's why load work up is so fun!
