Need to find aguide rod for my 17, what are your suggestions? Also, if you use a guide rod for 1911 springs, do you need to shorten them, or do you use the full length government spring? Thanks for your help, Dave.

Hello: I am using the guide rods from Jager. One uses ISMI springs and the other one uses Wolff spring. The Wolff spring guide rod uses 1911 style recoil springs with the last coil made smaller to fit on the guide rod better. Both guide rods are captured type which I like since I don't have to fight putting the assemble back in the pistol. The springs I am testing on the Gen 5 G17 are ISMI 11,13 and 15lb. The Wolff are 10,11,12,13,14 and 15lb springs. Tungsten guide rods tend to wear and sometimes will break. They are heavier if you like more weight up front. I have used the tungsten guide rods in my Gen 3 pistols and they work fine. Thanks, Eric
