I used a dental pick from breach end. After reading some posts on this, I believe a bore snake from the muzzle end would do the trick too. Hopefully I don't need to become an expert in extraction of separated cases :0 Link to comment
Les Snyder
an IMT stepped case separated and was easily removed with a 5.56 chamber brush (which I keep on an old Lewis Lead remover "T" handle) Edited December 25, 2017 by Les Snyder Link to comment
accu9
FM, IMT, Ammoland and IMTS are the main culprits when it comes to stepped cases. I immediately cull those stamps as it's not a function of if they will separate, but when. Major PF, minor PF...it's going to happen. If a stepped case manages to spontaneously disassemble in your chamber, a good soak of Kroil and a brass pick will usually get the remaining portion clear. Link to comment
Boxer1
I saw this a while back with Aluminum cased ammo. Not sure if it is a PCC thing or not but the guy was running PCC. Obviously new ammo. Link to comment

Obviously new ammo. You shouldn’t run aluminum case ammo in a PCC because depending how it is setup the delayed blowback action may not have enough dwell time to allow pressure to safely drop. In that event the case doesn’t separate, it blows apart into tiny pieces!Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Link to comment
Boxer1
I never shot aluminum myself but that makes sense. This one separated but blew powder and debris out the ejection port. Link to comment
myn0ck
Is FM still doing stepped brass? I found this older thread. I'll have to check what I have from them, but I don't think its stepped anymore. Link to comment
stick
Pulled this from my daughter's barrel a couple of weeks ago. Definitely Stepped brass. All the culprits were mentioned by earlier responses. Link to comment
mscott
Just happened to me yesterday. Been trying to sort them out, but one slipped by and got me yesterday. It was a stepped case from Ammo Load. Link to comment
