Flat wound recoil springs

I recently ordered 2 flat wound recoil springs for my 1911, and they won't fit on the guide plug, as they're too small. What do I need to do, or order to make these work? Thanks for any help on this, Dave.

Go to the Wilson Combat website and order either the G.I. or full-length guide rod for the flat wire springs (wilsoncombat.com). They have a smaller diameter to fit these type springs.

EGW and Nighthawk also sell the .250" guide rods needed to allow use of flat wire springs.

When I bought mine the claim was the springs would last 3 times, or more, longer than the standard coil springs.  I'll never know as my 1911s are basically "retired" in favor of my CZ's.

I have been using them in my competition 1911 and I would estimate about 4 thousand plus rounds with no apparent change in strength. I like them, but can't prove they are better. Since they are shorter than conventional round wire springs I initially had some concerns over the flat wire having enough strength to close the slide on rounds, but that hasn't been a problem.
