olp73
Hi I have a small project trying to lighten up my rifle (IPSC Open) I have come to the conclusion that the scope and mount is a big part of the total weight. Originally, I bought a Zeiss V8 1-8 with Spuhr mount. The scope itself is not that bad (heavy) but there are few mounts on the marked and even thou the Spur mount is great it is not light. Total package is about 900 grams (2 pounds) I have also found out that 1-6x scopes often are much lighter and often have 30mm tubes which gives you many mounts to choose from. So, I am looking for a good and light scope, (and mount) and there seem to be a lot to choose from but nothing is quite right. I would prefer something with exposed turrets and a ranging reticle. A really day light bright reticle with a dot would also be good. And last, a forgiving “eyebox”. I prefer FFP scopes, but you cannot get everything. These are the new scopes that I have looked at so fare. There might be others, old or new, that I have not noticed. I would be grateful if someone could give me an advice of what to buy. mic2377
I have a VX-6 and it is a good scope, particularly given how it is much lighter than other "premium" scopes like the Vortex Razor (which is a tank!). I haven't used any of the other ones, although I have looked hard at the Vortex Viper PST after good experiences with the 1-4 model.
CharlieD
If light is the goal then look at an Aero mount and a Swarovski z6i.
mpeltier
Ive owned both the Leupold VX-6 and the Z6i and the Leupold is lighter. Ultimately I prefered the Leupold and sold the Z6i.
olp73
Hi, Thanks for all help, I think I solved the problem. Got hold of a lightly used Kahles K16i SM1 I still need a mount: Bobro? Larue? American Defence? Or other?

pcs352
The aero is uber light, holds a zero and priced well....holds my heavy 1-6 razor fantastically well.
toeheadAR
I thought I wanted a 1-6x FFP scope and was looking at the Eotech Vudu but it is a bit heavy. I actually bought a Burris XTR-II 1-5x and have it for sale (haven't even used it but opened it to see how bright it is) because for me it is a little too heavy. I'm looking at the VX-6 with CMR2 reticle or the Athlon Midas with the BDC reticle which is new for this year. I've ready mized reviews about how bright both are, anyone have first hand experience? Kirkwoodious
Jumping up in budget here, but the Leupold Mark 6 is 2.4 oz heaver than the VX6, but a jump in glass quality and has the best reticle in the class for long range shooting..
