Al Capizzo
I put a new scope and mount on my AR recently but I can't get it sighted in. It is consistently 3" high(@ 100yds), and I have no more elevation adjustment to lower the impact point. Does this mean I need a lower mount? outerlimits
need more info. is the upper a flat top? what type of mount?
Al Capizzo
Yes, a flat top with Aero Precision ultralight mount. Burris 1-5 XTR.
dauntedfuture
Normally when people say they are out of elevation adjustment they mean that they need more up elevation. In your case you need more down if I understand correctly. Provided your scope is mounted correctly and everything is stated I suspect that your scope is broken. kurtm
And I suspect that the base isn't fully seated on the flat top, it is real easy to get that particular mount with one of the cross bolts up on top of the flat instead of in the grove. Seen that before! Make sure that BOTH of the cross bolts are fully down in the slot cut in the upper receiver!
Al Capizzo
Thanks for the responses. I'll look at the mount when I get home this evening. I never even thought to look at the mount position, which now seems pretty obvious.
Al Capizzo
Well, turns out the mount/mounting was just fine. So, what else?
59nolimit
Sounds like a scope issue. What scope is it out of curiosity?
fastluck13
Read your manual. There is process for adjusting the zero stop. I think it involves losening the turret cap and turning to give yourself more down adjustment.

THIS Once you get that sucker zeroed, mark the turrets with witness marks... those turrets love to move . Al Capizzo
Sure enough, the problem was with me, not understanding the zero stop. Leave it to me to turn a "feature" into a crisis.
