Shortening loaded ammunition

I have a bunch of long loaded 40 for a limited gun (1.195 OAL). I would like to shorten all my loaded rounds by .070 so that it will run in my single stack gun (1.125 OAL).

Can I just re-seat the bullets and re-crimp them? Has anyone ever done this?

Note--pressure is a non-issue. I shot a bunch of long loaded 40 and short loaded 40 with the same powder charge and there was (to my great surprise) no change in velocity. None.

What's your crimp? If it's too deep it will swage the bullets as you seat them and you might lose accuracy.

Thanks Kneeling. I just measured about a dozen. 8 were .420. Two were .419 and a two were .421.

I would try it on a couple of rounds and then pull them and measure the bullet to make sure there is no deformation.

If its lead bullets, it might shave a little lead off. No problem if it is jacketed ammo.

Correct, no issues with the typical jacketed bullet, provided they are not over-crimped.

Have you try running the 1.195" loads in the single stack, in my Cheely Custom single stack I'm running mine at 1.200" with Wilson mags and no problems. That way I can run the same load in my single stack and Limited gun.

I just re-seated about 800 rounds of 9mm. Before and after accuracy test results were fine, I didn't chrony them. Acme 124gr RN bullets and Win 231 powder had to be pushed back .04".

I'll use the rounds for practice.
