MarilynMonbro
I've only done a few local idpa matches but have seen a bunch of videos and they usually have people shooting on the move. Is it in the stage description if you can shoot targets on the move? Is it usually written out in a way that every shooter has to run the stage a certain way? racknrider
On the move targets are either where you start in the open or the new "surprise" targets.
davsco
some stages will require you to shoot while moving, including some of the classifier strings. but generally you can post and shoot or go as slow or fast as you want, taking cover into consideration. Jim Watson
Shooting on the move is a valuable skill. IDPA can tell you to shoot on the move, USPSA can allow you to shoot on the move. Work on it.
motosapiens
the difference is in idpa, shooting on the move is generally in the script, so you MUST do it, so most people move as slowly as possible. in uspsa, you only shoot on the move if it's advantageous to do so, and people move at a much brisker pace. regardless, it's a very useful skill to work on, and it will help your static shooting and shot-calling quite a bit, and also allow you to shoot earlier when you move into a position. MarilynMonbro
Thanks everyone. I was pretty much wondering if it was possible for me to shoot any target on the move or if I am only able to shoot on the move if the stage description allows it
Jim Watson
You must shoot IDPA from cover if it is available. The occasions to shoot on the move include: Start in the open and shoot on the way to cover from which you will engage another array of targets. Move from one cover to the next and shoot "discovered" targets which either pop up, turn, or just become visible as you pass by a prop that is designated as concealment, not cover. Everything in the open, move around and shoot. Most often seen as a Standard Drill. Shooting on the move will normally be specified in the CoF.
