Hello! I just participated in my first competition EVER over the weekend... The Benelli Shotgun Match at Rockcastle Shooting Center! I learned alot, didn't DQ or finish dead last; my very basic expectations were met and I'm really ready to get into other competitions and improve! Any suggestions for a newbie who doesn't really feel like she belongs in competitions?

I kind of standout when I'm around everyone else because I'm so small and still hesitate to be confident because of that.

A. I guarantee you that no one is noticing your stature

B. Adopt the attitude that you own the joint

C. Get good, let your shooting do the talking

Welcome to the madness

You pay your money, you drive out to the range, you have all the same

rights as the 6'6" guy standing next to you. :surprise:

As BigLou mentioned, most men I know LOVE it when women show up

at a match - when my wife attended with me (she didn't even shoot) and she

was generally very well received.

We know that shooting is, generally, a "man's" sport. And we wish it

weren't. We all love it when women and children show up.

You're very brave to show up, and we all know that, and appreciate it,

and hope that you come back next week or month.

There is a fit and small statured woman who I have seen shoot action pistol, and she came in first one time and third one time. This is in Socal and there are a lot of good shooters. She does shoot a lot of revolver and pistol.

Welcome to the funnest of all sports... competitive shooting. There's lots of great matches throughout kentucky & southern indiana. There are starting to be a lot more female competitors showing up at the local matches lately. I hope that you have more pleasant experiences, the others have offered lots of great advice already, I hope you have fun and stick with it. Welcome to the forum.
