bearmurph
First, thanks for all the great posts, this forum was one of the best sources of info that pointed me in the right direction - I have been shooting a 9mm XMD 5.25 since the fall and am really happy with it. Of course this means more shooting, a range membership and finding the money for all that ammo :-) I had an issue with Freedom Munitions taking a very long time to ship 'in stock' ammo and was hoping they would be a good source for what looks like quality, reloaded ammo. It is hard for me to go back to what was pretty bad customer service Any other suggestions for a source of inexpensive, quality ammo? I have been shooting 147 GR and am starting 3-gun (at least trying to start) and suspect reloading will make sense next winter when time and money are available for the investment. Any suggestions would be appreciated!
Hi-Power Jack
suspect reloading will make sense next winter . Nope ... Reloading makes sense, NOW. Buy a used 550 and everything else you need to start reloading pistol, for about $500 (20-30 boxes of ammo).
Iggy42
As a guy that does not reload I have been VERY happy with Universal Ammo in my .40 XDm Limited gun. They do offer a 9mm round that is designed for production that should do well for 3 gun. When I pick up a 9mm for 3 gun I was planning on using Universal's ammo. Atlanta Arms and Ammo is also reputable ammo supplier for our sport. Edited April 8, 2015 by Iggy42

bountyhunter
Be careful about reload 9mm: if the brass is not resized and crimped just right, it will jam your barrel like a cork in a champaigne bottle. All the calibers like .40, .45, .38, .357 etc are easy to size because they are straight walled. If it fits through a sized hole, it will fit in your barrel. 9mm is tapered and that can be a real problem. So much of the 9mm reload ammo has a bulge about 1/3 of the way up from the rim. I couldn't count how many guns I have worked on that started jamming when people had to switch to reload, even "good" brands like Miwall. I got about 5 cases of it and ended up buying a few aftermarket barrels so I could ream the throats enough to shoot the ammo. Didn't want to screw up the stock barrels and didn't want to return the ammo since there was no other ammo to buy anywhere. Be careful and do the "drop test" in your barrel to make sure. JPetrowski
As said Atlanta Arms and Ammo is a great source. I would really look into reloading equipment instead. I was in the same boat as you and just kept searching for a press. Eventually I found a square deal with everything else needed to get started for $350. It is one of the best purchases I've ever made. Then you can just pickup some components here and there which wont feel as bad as buying a bunch of ammo. Even if you don't buy in big bulk you will save money and have a better load suited to your liking.
