Iowa Sectional Match (May 28, 2005)

Guys, if you're going to be in the midwest over this upcoming Memorial Day weekend, check this match out:

--Sanctioned USPSA sectional match, point series approval pending

--10 stages, 210 rounds in one day format (Saturday, May 28)

--Plaque-only match

--Free match shirt if your entry is received before May 1.

--$50 entry fee

That's right--only FIFTY BUCKS!!

This is our home club. Not a huge range, not a fancy range, but still a very fun place to shoot. Probably one or two stages will be "run through the woods" type, really gets the adrenalin flowing, you feel a little like Johnny Rambo.

Skip (BE handle: Badshot) and I would like some other wheelgunners to show up and challenge us. (Unfortunately, Sam has an AAU baseball tournament that weekend, so he won't be shooting.)

Entry form is at OOPS website when you get there click on "Messages" and the entry form is sorta hidden in there (to keep out the riffraff). This match will limited to the first 60 entries received, so don't wait too long or you won't get in.

Osceola, Iowa isn't exactly a cultural mecca, but there is a bona fide riverboat casino (which sits motionless on a swampy little pond) just a couple miles down the road, which is always good for a little entertainment the evening before and/or after the match.

Let me know if you can make it, and write in "Squad with Carmoney and Ahern" on the entry form if you want, and maybe they'll put all of us wheelgunners together!

MIKE,

I'll see what i can do for that match.

I've got in-laws near you ( knoxville & melcher-dallas) , about 30 miles away. Oscela is an hour or so west from them.

I think i can talk my wife into going to visit her family. If not , i'm sure i can go.

Thinking of coming up from Kansas. Are you coming to the Sunflower Classic, I'm planning on shooting a Revolver, even though they won't recognize it (for now). If you are coming and will shoot a revolver, let me know.

Anyone else want to show up and shoot Revolver? If we can get 5 to show up I may buy the placque myself, and donate it!

Sounds great--just don't wait around too long to mail it in--with only 60 slots the Iowa match may fill up fairly quickly.

Dan, hope I have a chance to say hello down in Florida.

Jerry, it will be nice shooting with you again if you can make it up here in May.

Hey Dave, I already sent in on the Sunflower Classic (even got my motel booked, Holiday Inn in Topeka is dirt cheap if you pay online), and circled L-10, but I'd really rather shoot revolver if there are others who will do the same. If Skip A. goes, I'll bet he'd shoot a wheelgun with us too. So let us know what you decide on that, OK?

I'm shooting Revolver, even though I may have to register in L10.

Since it is a Placque Match, with prizes by Raffle, what's to lose. It's more important to me to get ready for the Area 3, where I will also shoot a Revolver.

There are a few guys in KC that shoot Revo every once in a while, I'll try to drop them a line.

Mike,

my entry form will go in tomorrows mail. BTW, there's no PF category on the entry form, so I hand wrote it under the DIV category. Might let others know to do the same!!

See ya friday, i'll find you, shouldn't be to hard. GO "WHEELIES"!!!!

Dave, I think maybe I'll do the same thing--at all the other matches I'm attending around that time-frame I'll be shooting a revolver (except the Single Stack Classic the end of April), and it would really make sense for me to shoot the wheelie in Topeka also. I don't care about the plaque stuff either--as long as they would let us shoot for score and there were a couple revolver guys there, I'd be happy.

Tom, the Iowa match should be an excellent opportunity for the point series. Try to come if you can get it arranged. Last year the OOPS Club ran a Single Stack match which was also a 10-stage, 1-day format (I'm sure they'll run it again later this year), and I thought it went really well. These guys do a good job and always run a nice, honest, fun match. Hey, it's Iowa.

TriggerT, we'll look forward to seeing you and the N. IL guys out here, even if you are shooting a reciprocator! :)

Hey guys--I'm happy to report that we had 7 wheelgunners from 4 different states at our first-ever Iowa Sectional Match today, which is enough to have a real horse race. Dan Carden flew in from California to shoot with us, and won the division plaque. Several of us midwesterners did a fairly good job of keeping him honest! Results are under "match info--special matches" at http://www.ioweb.com/oops/

It was good seeing everybody today.

I shot in Squad #5, and with Squad #6, and I am her to tell you that there were some DAMN good wheel gunners at this match and in our squad.

The match ran a little longer than I had hoped, since we had a 6 hour drive home last night, but the satges were great, and the guys at OOPS put on a great match. Thanks to all of you that put inthe time to make it happen.

As for me, the morning 6 stages went about as bad as they could. I shot so bad in the moring I was temped to call it a day at luinch time. Glad I didn't since the afternoon went much better, but 15 "D's" will kill any match score.

I would have gladly taken 4 Ds over the 4 misses I had for the whole match, anyday. The good part is I did not hit any no-shoots! :D

It was a great match and I had lots of fun despite my luke warm shooting. Thanks to everone who put their effort into the first Iowa sectional and hope to see you all come up to the MN sectional. We're hoping to have at least 5 Minnesota revolver shooters.

You and Carmoney gave Dan a run for the MONEY !!!!!!!

You going to make the OHIO match ?

We're trying for 20+ and Flex says the number is up to 15 or so....

If possible make the trip, it should be good. and bring any other 6 shooting buddy with you.

Hey Keith,

Glad that you guys came down to shoot here. 4 misses - ouch!!! You would have really cleaned up without those misses. I didn't get a chance to talk with everyone, I shot on Friday and was only there Saturday morning. Is the Minnesota sectional the same as the one that was held at Del-Tone last year? I think we met up there last year. Lori and I are still talking about going to the Minnesota sectional this year.

Keith: My son Sam and I are signed up to shoot Revo at the MN Sectional in Sept. already, so that's three for sure. I know Skip went last year--he'd be four--maybe we can talk Jay into going along as well (although I know he's expecting to take delivery of his new Open blaster sometime around in there, so he might be distracted...)

Pretty long travel time for Sam Keen and Cliff Walsh, so we're probably safe from them. We could be brave and invite Dan--of course, he might just take you up on it like he did me! That crazy guy will show up anywhere, anytime, to shoot Revo. ;)

Bet there's some other good wheelmen up there in your neck of the woods....

Hey Skip,

Sorry didn't get a chance to talk. Looked up after I was done shooting a stage and you were gone already.

The Mn sectional is going to be in Hutchinson, Mn this year. It's about an hour south of the DPMS/DelTone range. It is a great facility.

There is a link to it on our MN section webite.

Forgot to add that I do not intend on doing the Ohio match. Sounds like fun, but, I already have a full year planned with Area 3, nationals, and I am ROing the Rocky MT 3-gun down in New Mexico.
