Intercooler2
I need to make a decision on whether I keep the Hunter hammer or swap it for the heart Xtreme Gold. I'm afraid if I switch it, the beavertail might take some smacks.
CleverUsername
I cant imagine it would hit the frame any more than a hunter hammer. You may be better served with a limited hammer take off. #2 trigger is easily obtained that way and would be way cheaper.
Intercooler2
It's a bigger hammer than the Hunter. On my others I can pull it back to the beavertail and make contact. Physically impossible on the Hunter.
Nealio
That contact also depends on your hammer spring. If its a little too long it will bind before you get to the beavertail. Are you going for aesthetics or function? You can get a heart hammer from EAA for $71 http://eaacorp.com/gun_accessories/index.php/parts/tanfolio/witness/hammers/witness-heart-shape-hammer-102017.html or (like was mentioned), get a take off heart hammer. Intercooler2
Safety and magazine base pad. Is that a Limited or Gold Team safety? We think the base pad is an Xtreme.
kneelingatlas
Is that a Limited or Gold Team safety? I'm pretty sure they're the same.
Intercooler2
The hammer is the Xtreme line or standard Limited? I might as well just swap it too and hope it clears. This is the next best thing to the "Unicorn" Match!
Intercooler2
The parts are here for the Super Match conversion! I'm thinking about removing some of the meat towards the back of the hammer to avoid potential contact with the beavertail. Any suggestions on what to use for that? Intercooler2
I sent it all off to APWCOGAN for hard chroming. Hopefully in another week or so I will get the finished frame back to complete the "Super Match". Before I sent off the parts, I also ground the back of the Heart hammer some to hopefully prevent beavertail hits.
Intercooler2
I'm looking at that picture and think I was sent the wrong panels for a Hunter without magwell?

Intercooler2
Shucks! I guess I will have to send them back and hope the correct ones get here about the same time as the frame.
Intercooler2
APW called today to confirm what's being done. Does this sound right?? - 400 grit brushed on the side surfaces - The dust cover and rounded portions will be Matte.
BeerBaron
well the normal hard chrome guns are polished on the flat surfaces and brushed/matte on the rounded surfaces. I have no idea what size grit or type of polishing they do though.
Intercooler2
What is the standard Hunter frame make-up? Maybe all I need is Chroming without any additional work?
kneelingatlas
The frame is rust blued which needs to be removed before hard chroming, I think the people at APW know what they're doing. I read an article about home bluing which said 400 grit is the magic number were carbon steel will still take a surface treatment, any smoother and it becomes polished and no longer porous enough. Intercooler2
I wonder if I need to tell them it is rust blued?
gunnit
Intercooler they should be able to remove just about any prior finish on the metal and get it prepped for hard chrome. A friend had APW do a slide for him in hard chrome, he said it was for an EAA Witness Tanfoglio , and as he described the slide to them they determined that the flat parts on the sides , where the writing is, were Brushed finished, and the top and bottom radius were Matte finished. The slide came back virtually identical to an original look of a hard chrome Tanfoglio finish. Yours will look good.
