Hi, looking to build a 1911. In the past i noted that Brownells had fitted slide to frame kits but don't seem to see them listed anymore. Wondering who else might carry them and which ones are preferred (not looking for double stack/sti type). thanks

How "nice" of a 1911 are you looking to build? Do you want to just make a cheaper one for a first try, or do you have a lot of experience doing this? If you just want to do it yourself sarco has kits. From what I've heard, they aren't the best set of parts but it's the cheapest way to build one yourself.

If you want to build a "custom" 1911 you should check with brazos, lonestar innovations, or freedom gunworks. I was planning on building a 2011 myself and these 3 all had options for a slide/frame kit with or without barrel. Things change so they may not offer it anymore but they did a couple months ago. Also any quality local gunsmith that builds 1911's would likely do it for you at a reasonable cost, but will likely hesitate due to having to "fix" your mistakes.

Caspian is my pick.

But I have to admit, if you're looking to build a race gun, Brazzo's has a pretty good deal on fitted slide and frame with a lightened slide to boot for under $1000.

Also, Fusion has a pretty nice kit for a 6". Frame, slide and barrel all fitted for $1095.

As said earlier, Caspian sells fitted slide frame kits. Fusion Firearms sells 1911 kits about any way you want them. I've used Caspian and Fusion and STI kits, all are a good foundation for a build. I got the fitted frame and slide them put them together with the parts I wanted to use. 9mm STI, 40 Fusion Commander and a Caspian 10mm.
