Bruce
Anyone shoot this stuff in pistols? Have heard it is sub-gun ammo, and not recommended for pistola shooting. Just wondering if anyone has played with it, or used it out of a comp'd gun? Reason I ask is a buddy has a bunch of it, willing to trade it to me for some stuff I no longer need or use...so price would be really great. diehli
http://www.brianenos.com/forums/index.php?...=0entry166001 Additionally Hirtenberger has a 124gr 9mm load for subguns use that made major in my short 9. Get yerself an Open gun in 9mm.
Alan Meek
Bruce, I chronoed some through my open gun that has a 4.25 barrel and the PF was just over 165. If you have a fairly sturdy 9mm then go for it. Alan
rhino
That would be sweet in my 9mm Springfield 1911! I could shoot in open and be major PF!
CQB Dave
When I was in the service, I shot a couple of boxes of it thru my Smith & Wesson 5906. It was a little brisk, but I never had any problems with it.
Carlos
Hey Rhino - does your 9mm have a ramped supported barrel? If not, do not shoot the L7A1 ammo. When reloading manuals warn about unsupported chambers, they are also talking about the traditional 1911 barrel design - which offers very little case support. This is in addition to the Glock .40 warnings. Frankly, I think it is iresponsible to even make an unramped 1911 barrel in 9mm, .38 super or .40 S&W. Anyway, I have used this ammo in the KKM barrel Glock 17 Open gun that John Nagel built for me & a friend w/an open STI uses this ammo exclusively. Good stuff. Runs well over 45,000 psi according to the lab tests he got back from the ballistics testing lab a few years back.
TMC
Where can you get it?
Little Bill
Do a Google search. I came up with this on the first page.
rhino
Hey Rhino - does your 9mm have a ramped supported barrel? If not, do not shoot the L7A1 ammo. Why, yes it does! Thanks for the warning, though. It's important enough to repeat for others who may not have ramped/supported chambers.
sfinney
I carry it in my Glock 19. Brisk, as stated earlier, but not unmanageable.
TMC
Do a Google search. I came up with this on the first page. I should have used Google and not Microsoft, all I came up with was a bunch of obsolete ammo made by Hirtenberger
Bruce
sfinney---is that 19 still wearing its stock barrel? Some horror stories out on the 'net about what this stuff will do to pistols, that is why I asked the fine folks here first. Thanks much.
Harmon
it will probably crack the slide of a berretta or lesser hangun. the berretta really doesnt need any help. i wouldnt think twice about using the stuff in Glock anything...those pistols are tough! sfinney
Original stock barrel. Gen 2 G19, (no finger gooves) @ 15 years old. Great lil' gun.
Ted Murphy
I remember in the glock armorers class they saidthat some of the european military agencies glock sells to specs that kind of a load for the G17. Idea is they have the same ammo (subgun and handgun) across the board, making supply easier. The glock handles it well though they do offer an extra power striker spring as some of the submachinegun ammo has tougher primers. Ted
