WidowsSon683
So in building a 3gun shotgun, how far past the muzzle is too far for your mag tube?
MarkCO
To far for what? You have to be out 6 or 7 feet for shot to actually hit it.
WidowsSon683
Ok so you shouldnt have any problems with shot hitting the tube. But what about damage from the muzzle blast, is that something to worry about? And please understand, I have NEVER owned or shot a shotgun. MarkCO
You will get some powder residue on them, but that is about it. The limiting factors are reliability, breaking them off, and getting them to stay in dump buckets. There are a few open guys with 15 round tubes. 10-12 seems to be the most common ones. WidowsSon683
So even if its sticking out past the muzzle there shouldn't be any adverse affects.
CJW
M2 Tactical, 18'5" barrel with an 11 round (NC +8) tube. After 5k rounds, give or take, no issues with the setup. This is about as big an underbite as you will see, outside of Open.
WidowsSon683
Thanks for the visual CJW.
ziebart
For me the limit is the dump bucket, and the stages. I recently started shooting open and will change tube length if I know what type of dump I will be using. Of course this means that I need to walk all stages the day prior as you can't change setups once in the match.
nicholastheczar
I run a 24" M2 with a 14 round tube with no problems of grounding in dump barrels. I started with a 10 then to a 12 and now to a 14. I have some residue on the extension but that's it and having the extra capacity is sure nice. Nealio
My +12 tube on my 26" Versamax gets coated with a lot more crap that I would expect. After a few hundred rounds it gets a thick metallic looking crust on it.
WidowsSon683
So its mainly just a matter of keeping it clean.
pmt
My 21" Beretta with a +4 fits in my safe and range bag. Any longer and it wouldn't.
