j28s
Looking for a recipe to load some 147gr MG and Zero JHP to around 145 to 150 pf. Need some extra KO rounds for some 3G matches for heavy steel poppers at 35 yds. (Note: before someone gives a smarta$$ comment, shot 124gr at 137pf and hit the center round of popper as well as head and wouldn't fall...had to double tap center round area fast to get it to go down...everyone on squad had same issue). I see Hodgdon Longshot with 4.7g is 1004fps which is around 147pf which is good. Any other good recipes? (i.e. VV N340 or N350, or Autocomp, or ???) Thanks in advance. Hi-Power Jack
I'd check to see if your gun will take a sustained feeding of PF 150's and make sure you load long - Autocomp is good - work up from 4.5 grains, slowly, with a chrono.
thompsoncustom
Can't help ya with a recipe but Underwood's +p+ 147gr bullets are pushing a 169pf so 150 shouldn't be hard to get.if you don't mind the flashbang power pistol will get u there. j28s
That helps! approx fps with Autocomp at 4.5gr? what about titegroup? See 3.6 - 147gr - 929fps but only at 27,500psi. Didn't know if 3.7 or 3.8 would just send the psi to high to fast. Power Pistol - 5gr at 975 at 1.1300" - looks like it might work too. As you all know...finding the powder is the hardest thing. PS - STI 2011 loading at 1.1400" so yeah, little long. Thanks again for the help.
kneelingatlas
I would not use a fast powder like Titegroup. Longshot, HS6, VV3N38, something in that range will get you where you want to be safely.
Hi-Power Jack
- STI 2011 loading at 1.1400" so yeah, little long Great. An STI will handle the load very well. For an STI 1.14" is not long BTW. You can go to 1.165" pretty easily - might feed better, too.
Mbauer67
I loaded some 124gr MG JHP's at 1.140" long with 5.7gr of autocomp and that made right around 150pf. A little snappy but very accurate.
